weird job situation

Hey guys,

So I’m a part time project manager for a small IT company, and the owner has been working with me directly to try to win this potentially big project.

We do not have the resources for the project, but he revealed to me on the way to a meeting that, due to budget cuts from the companies we do work for, that it’s either this project or layoffs for many of the people we have.

This project is not big enough to keep everyone working long-term, so I’m really bothered by the lack of transparency going on…especially when we might hire a few people to get the work done in six months.

I am not sure if I am asking a question or just looking for general feedback. I guess I was just really disgusted too when, at the meeting with the potential client, the names of people were thrown around like they were nothing, and they will become available due to budget cuts and face layoff if we don’t get the business. Nobody but me flinched during that meeting.

I am also concerned because they might need a full-time project manager for this project, and I’m part-time due to medical reasons. The owner of the co assured me that I am valued and all that stuff…but who knows.

So your company does actually have the resources for this project because of the budget cuts at other clients. And your colleagues are looking to you and the owner to get this contract, else they’ll be out of work.

Responsibility sucks, doesn’t it? All those people depending upon you But that’s why they pay you the big bucks. So knuckle down and win that project. Unemployment is not fun, I can tell you.
