Weird Pizza Toppings

Has anyone had any really weird toppings on oizza that actually worked? My vote goes to tuna and banana (tuna under the cheese, banana on top).

Were you tired, drunk, or both when you posted this?

Corn’s popular in Asia, as is squid. No personal experience with them, though, thankfully.

Wide awake and sober.

Good idea to keep away from foreign food like corn … stick to something properly American like pizza(unless you’re from the UK, in which case stick to curry).

I have tried the following on pizza : rattlesnake, buffalo, alligator, venison, and turtle. Not all at once mind you, but over time. I have to say that the snake and the buffalo seemed to be pretty close to beef in taste. The alligator was quite good though a bit gamey. The venison was fantastic. The turtle was a bad idea, bleck. I have seen peanut butter and jelly pizzas (or is it pizzerts?), I have also seen a spaghetti pie (man oh man was that great). I suppose that is all I can contribute. Perhaps SPAM would make a good topping ?

Yes, here in Japan the Pizza Hut menu lists the “Idaho Special” (corn and potatoes) as well as seafood pizza (calamari and shrimp, with a mayonnaise sauce). I’ve had them both - they are rather good, though the mayonnaise sauce is a bit too greasy for my taste. Eggplant is pretty good too.

I’ve heard of a place that serves a whole octopus on a pizza. I guess you cut it into 8 slices so there’s one tentacle on each slice. I’ve had octopus numerous times and they are rather good, but haven’t had it on a pizza yet.

Off to IMHO, the home for “survey” style questions seeking the input of the teeming millions.

Apple pizza is very good if you leave off the
tomato sauce.
I’ve had all sorts of veggies on pizza–
eggplant, tomato, corn. You don’t really
taste them through the cheese and sauce.
Croutons are very good on pizza.

And speaking of corn, I have a sister-in-law
who makes vanilla ice cream with creamed corn
in it.

The Flying Pie pizzeria near the University of Utah used to sell “Chinese Food Pizza”, which was pretty good. I foun out my wife used to do the same thing – put some leftover Chinese food on your pizza andf spread it around. Maybe not really weird, but tasty. I’d eat it before I ate an “Idaho Special”

I really like roast beef on pizza, although it can be hard to find a place that makes it like that.

I’ve heard rumours that ham and pineapple is not a regular pizza topping in the US. While not my favourite, it is really popular in Canada. Is it true that it’s not a usual pizza topping in the States?

I get ham (or Canadian bacon, which is probably called ‘ham’ in Canada) and pineapple pizzas all the time here in Colorado, and I could get 'em when I lived in Michigan and Minnesota, too. So I’d say they’re pretty common in the US, although I know a lot of people who say “Yuk! Pineapple on pizza? No thanks!”

Tandoori chicken on pizza is quite popular in the U.K., I’m told.

One of my fave lunchtime restaurants is American Pizza Cafe, where I can get a Sicilian Pizza (proscuitto ham, asparagus, and artichoke hearts), or a Thai Pizza (thai chicken, red peppers). Good, good stuff. They also do seafood pizzas, etc.

My current favorite is chicken, black olives and feta cheese on a white pizza.

A co-worker of mine swears you can get beef jerky on pizza in Denmark.

It had all german spices in the sauce, instead of Italian, and Swiss cheese, and sliced bratwurst instead of pepperoni.

Very tasty. I should make that again (I’m a rare cook, but I do when inspired. Thanks for the inspiration.)

There is a restaurant about a block from the dorm I lived in last year that actually serves spam pizza although I’ve never tried it. They used to serve jelly bean pizza, but they quit for some reason. My favorite was jelly beans, pineapple, and pepperoni.

Almost every pizza place I’ve been to has either ham or Canadian bacon* (or both) (sometimes regular bacon, too) available. Pineapple, too. Both ham and Canadian bacon are pretty good as pizza toppings. Never had pineapple, but that’s just because I hate pineapple.

*I believe it’s called “back bacon” in Canada.

Pepperoni pizza with habaneros is wonderful, although it takes awhile to get your sense of taste back.

I love green olives on pizza. I used to get them on pizza back in Ohio. Sadly, I cannot find any pizzaria in the Los Angeles area that even HAS green olives.

Anchovie and pineapple.
Anybody want a slice?
