Weird smells that you love.

Phenolphthalien. I absolutely love the smell of this, and its part of what keeps me sane in my Anayltical Chemstry class - I enjoy the phenolphthalein titrations because of the indicator smell!

Brylcreem. My dad used it, when he had enough hair to necessitate it. One of the first boys I kissed used a mousse that smelled very much like Brylcreem (80s hair) and I think that was part of my attraction.

The smell of the veterinary clinic I used to work.

I have always loved the smell of sulphur from birthday candles as well as vinegar and have always been curious as to whether I’m just weird or if there are others who feel the same  .

Hi again, sorry, forgot to mention the wonderful smell of Canadian Tire when you just walk in — that is especially for any Canadian viewers!

I love the smell of zombies on a rainy afternoon.

Ah, cadaverine. Take me right back to me childhood, it does.

What?

Tomato plants. I always associate the smell with my Mom out working in the garden. It’s a shame the leaves are poisonous; they’d make a lovely herb.

Basil
Lemon thyme
Lemon balm

In the first few minutes of a rain shower on a really hot day in the summer, the hot sidewalk gives off this smell that I always associate with being a little kid.

Mine too! I thought that was just me being weird. My old beagle’s ears smelled like celery salt to me, like what you put around the rim of a glass for a Caesar.

My husband’s cat’s fur smells like corn chips too.

My favourite smell in the world used to be my cat’s forehead. She passed away in 2008, and I miss kissing her on the head and just inhaling…

The smell of a new vinyl LP record, after tearing off the shrink wrap.

My grandmother’s basement…its a vague mix of mildew, old paper, and laundry detergent.

Right now, there’s a lot of people going “Caesar?” What the hell’s that?

I know. ;)

The dusty smell when it has just started raining nearby - I assume I’m actually smelling dirt as the rain stirs it up.

The marsh at low tide.

Cherry pipe tobacco.

Creosote. (My hometown has a creosote plant.)

The inside of an old work truck - oil and cigarettes and sweat and such.

Sulfurous water.

Crayons on a warm day, like when one gets dropped in a vehicle. (This definitely stems from a childhood memory. Daddy put up an old army tent in the back yard for my brother and me. We accidentally left our crayons in there one day, and came back to find them melted in puddles on the canvas. If I were crafty, I’d make candles just to recapture that smell now and again.)

I like the way that WD-40 smells, and the smell of Discount Tire.

Gasoline.

Burned matches.
Cordite/gun powder/exploded fireworks smoke
fireplaces
cigars
Borkhum Riff (RIP Grandpa)
Coffee beans
gasoline
rain on hot asphalt
freshly cut grass
baking bread
grilling meat
model airplane glue
sharpies
new car smell
leather
