Welcome the newest member of our household!

that_darn_cat and I are so pleased to announce that our household is plus-one as of this afternoon!

[sub]No! This isn’t another Doper baby![/sub]
We’ve been petless for some time now, being responsible folks and waiting for our lives to settle down some. Well, we think now is the time and Charm City the place. And the fates [sub]or at least the universal good forces looking out for cats[/sub] sent this fellow our way.

[sub]Go ahead, click on the linky! Not only is it work-safe, but it’s cuter than a cheeto![/sub]

He’ll never have a Dope account [sub]What, with all the new cat goodies we’ve bought and a trip to the vet this week, you think we’re shellin’ out $5 for him to post, too?[/sub], but maybe some of you fine folk will have the opportunity to meet him in the future.

In the meantime, we’d be grateful for anyone who has had experience introducing a stray kitty into the good life or just wants to chime in with a name suggestion for the li’l one.

Oh, what a cutie pie! And I think “Habicat” works perfectly.

(The kitty name I’ve been waiting to meet the right cat for is “Zebulon.” Feel free to take it if it works.)

He’s adorable. You DO realize, don’t you, that you’re not allowed to throw that box out now? Really, it’s better if you will just keep it for a few months. Nothing that you can possibly buy will be half as much fun for the cat as that box.

Oh, and give that little pink nose a beep for me, will you? I can’t resist beeping kitty noses, especially pink ones. Our male cat has a pink nose too, and he makes SUCH a disgusted face when I beep him.

Figaro

Aw nuts. You get the cutie pie, and I get Psycho Hunter from the Darkness

Awww! What a cutie!

Yes, and like a Cheeto, you’ll end up with debris (cat hair) stuck to your hands. I’m about ready to create a new cat out of all the hair I brushed out of PurrMonster (another of Mud’s alterego - the loud meatloaf).

Yours is still a wittle cutie kittie.

I’m likin’ that kitty. He looks like a keeper!

twickster—We don’t call him “Habicat,” but use that term more like a breed name…he’s not a stray or whatever the cat version of a “mutt” is…he’s a habicat.

Lynn—Oh, yes, his position on the box has been made quite clear. Also, until we can introduce a scratching post, he’s come to understand that it’s the one thing in the house he’s free to tear up. (This isn’t something he’s been doing a lot of, actually, which makes me quite happy!) Consider the nameless one’s nose beeped on your behalf. He responded thusly:

blinks his beautiful pale green eyes, tilts head Brrrrr?

screech-owl—Your thread made me giggle! Maybe tdc will make an appearance in the thread and tell you what attacked his leg whilst he was innocently typing away at the 'puter. (Hint: It’s not the kitty.) Thusfar, the kitty has demonstrated very little psycho behavior, but I’m certain he’s still breaking us in.

Kalhoun—We just hope he feels the same way about us!
Name Update
Cat’s name-of-the-day is Yossarian, which I’ve shortened to “Yo-Yo” as I’ve been chatting to him throughout the morning.

We tend to dig literary or other cultural references (“Figaro” is a good example!), but we’re still not settled on a specific name. Which is funny, since we’ve been sorting out dog names ever since we met Jonathan Chance’s greyhounds (we want a pair of 'em; names we’ve earmarked are Molly and Case, with Griffin and Sabine being second runners up).

Unfortunately, we hadn’t made any such plans regarding cat names…so, here we are, changing the poor creature’s name every 15 minutes (not that he cares, so long as the cat chow keeps coming). Anyway, we’ve promised ourselves he’ll have a firm name within the week. [sub]HELP?[/sub]

Again, thanks to everyone offering congrats on the new kitty and boosting his shell-shocked ego with compliments!

Well, he’s cuter than a cheeto now, but wait until my cheeto is actually born! (Yes, it looks like a cheeto in the ultrasound).

And, so much for me ever visiting. Horrid allergies, and can’t take any antihistamines while pregnant.

Cute kitty, though. I think you should call it ‘that darn cat’.

We’ve named our stray Domino (black and white markings - not too original, but what the heck). We frequently call him “Mean Face” because he hisses at us a lot. But now he seems to be warming up to us, so I’m calling him “Big Daddy” a lot. He weighs about a gazillion lbs.

He looks like a cool cat. As far as names go, how about something from the Arthurian legends? Tristan, Percival, Lancelot, Gawain, and Galahad are all fine cat names.

Oh mah gawd!

He’s adorable

Simply adorable!

Tonight, the Habicat was introduced to his pet carrier, in prep for his first trip to the vet. He looks amazingly different than the scruffball I picked up on the street. He’s adapting well to the good life. Last night he accepted the gift of a red collar with much aplomb. Gotta get the little booger a scratching post though, while we still have a couch left.

WHEW!

Our kitty got a clean bill of health from the vet; I had a momentary flutter when her assistant told us they were going to run the feline leukemia and HIV screens first, to see if it was worth our while to do the shots, etc.

Kalhoun, you’re right; my experience is that a cat’s first given name is just one of many. He’ll always be habicat and a host of other names.

But I’ve already got one of those! Plus, then neither one will come when I call, always thinking, “Eh. She must be talking to the other guy.”

Yay for new kittys!
Yay for a stray finding a home!

YAY for a clean bill of health!!

I hope you and that_darn_cat will give him nice skritches under his chin for me.

They don’t come when you call anyway!

Cute cat…it’s always fun to have one in the house, isn’t it?
