Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had a hyuuuuuuuge first Sunday brunch (a serious and varied amount of food!), and survived the annual meetin’. Then it was back to da cave for nappage, which has been accomplished. 'Tis cloudy(ish) but pleasant out, so we shall day drink in a little while out on the back porch.
MOOOOOOM when I get leg cramps at night I am sure it’s because I didn’t drink enough water. Eatin’ a banana helps I have found. Then again, I suspect geriatrics may have sump’n to do with it as well.
sari it’s good if she’s finally realizin’ she needs to do sump’n about Barky/Humpy. Perhaps this is the clue by four she needs.
Ripple is too smart for that trick.
He’s not a grabber when it comes to treats. He always has to sniff them and check them out first.
There have been times when Echo has crept up and snatched the treat out of my hand before Ripple takes it.
I should tell him you snooze, you lose, instead I’ll pull out another treat for him.
He is pretty good at eating whatever is around the pill and dropping the pill on the ground too.
We have Vienna sausages; he’s not fooled by those. I don’t know if hot dogs will irk any better.
The better the treat, the more suspicious he is.
Ripple chews everything too. He never just gulps it down. Sometimes he’ll stand there and hold it in his mouth before he chews. We have to watch him or we’ll find the pill on the floor later.
I hope you are right Swampy, and that she got her clue by four.
I just want peace and for everybody to get along.
I ordered too many groceries to fit in the freezer.
We really need a bigger freezer.
My late lunch is broccoli with cheese steamer and a breakfast bowl, eggs and sausage with gravy.
Yum yum.
That’s sad about Lucy, sari. Have you considered a pet sitter for various members of your gang on occasions like this?
Got the kitchen day out of the way and had chicken fatteh with Lebanese slaw for Sunday dinner. I hadn’t made that for a long time and I’d forgotten just how good it is.
Sari, one other idea is to ask your vet if the pill(s) can be crushed: then you could mix the meds into some canned food. That’s what I have to do with Bailey, because these days she will either eat around whole pills or simply refuse whatever I’m trying to “hide” one in. She’s on a regular dose of prednisone for Atypical Addison’s Disease, which I crush, and whenever she needs something else — temporary antibiotics, etc. — I always ask the vet if whatever’s being prescribed can be crushed and mixed with food. I always have to check, though, because some meds aren’t effective when crushed. Most can be crushed, though.
I know y’all need the weekly trash report, so I am happy to report that the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus, I have done an actual chore. I now rest on my laurels.
Sari and Oopsie y’all have smart doggos! Look at it this way, the hunt for creative ways to give 'em their meds keeps y’all on your toes.
Afternoon all. Got two loads of laundry done, dishwasher has done it’s thing, and I made it to Logan’s Roadhouse for the Sunday meatloaf dinner (do wish they would get rid of the waffle fries). Feeling about 90% now, much better than yesterday but still skipping the gym just to be safe.
Sari, maybe she’ll finally wise up and get the dogs the behavior training they so desperately need. And sad news about Lucy.
Cookie, good advice, my problem is at my age I want to start spending the money I’ve saved/invested, but I seem to still have more income than outgo. Need to start spending more, I guess…
OK, back to the tackleball and deciding on second meal options. All y’all take care.
If you don’t feel inclined to accumulate stuff just because, it could be fun to be a mysterious benefactor. Like if a team is trying to raise money for new uniforms. Or give a chunk to a school to cover lunches for kids who can’t afford it. Or any number of things - just a thought. Like the FairyChatHome For Rampant Toddler Care
Seriously, tho, playing John Beresford Tipton could be fun!
Makes sense, since I am seeing a bit more undercarriage sag.
And you escaped any drafting this time?
@Sahirrnee , I’ve tended to have better luck with liquid meds. Easier to make sure it gets swallowed.
DH and I wound up with a rather unplanned kind of afternoon. I’d come back from a walk taken to investigate a report of a downed tree at the McDonald’s nearest me (the tree was near the building, but not on it, no damage to the building, which was open and doing apparently normal business) to discover a pile of mail to various addressees on a street about two miles from here, apparently dumped in the entry lane. After attempts to involve the police, the city, and USPS all failed, DH and I gathered the mail up into a grocery bag and set out to find a post office with an open lobby so we could use the package drop. Three attempts failed, but at the third (a major center in this area), we found an employee in the parking lot and convinced him to accept the bag and take it to safety in the building while whomever above him decided how to handle the matter (yes, we’re sure he was a USPS employee, he was wearing a visible ID badge), which got the dumped mail to safety. Since it appeared to contain a lot of bank, insurance, and government items, we REALLY wanted to get it somewhere safe ASAP. I did include an explanatory note with my contact info in case the postal people need more info from me.
After that, we decided rather on impulse to check out a nearby mall. It was pretty lively, with only one significant vacant anchor (used to be Sears), and only one smaller vacancy we noticed (Hickory Farms was on their way out). Plenty of variety in the food court, too. Mall food courts are a terrific thing, since you don’t have to get your whole party to agree on what to eat. DH got pad thai, I had cheesesteak fries. DH’s lunch was a VERY generous serving. About 2/3 of that is now in the fridge. I could not resist a stop at See’s or at Cinnabon.
I still need to get DH to assemble my new vacuum cleaner. He really hates the noise of one being used, so I won’t actually try out the appliance until tomorrow while he’s at work. The cats will not approve either, they never do.
Weather isn’t awful right now (we even had some blue sky and sun this morning), but it’s due to get pretty bad tonight. Heavy rain, high winds, our 2023 usual. Over 215k people without power still from last night, but that’s about 2/3 of what it was. My own utilities are still fine, but I’m still not counting on that to hold as normal until the storm series is over.
I put the leftover ham hocks & black-eyed peas into containers with a slotted spoon. This morning I thought I’d put some bacon and water into a pot with the beans just to have some liquid. I didn’t intend for us to have them for ‘dinner’ (it’s not even 16:30), but that’s what we had. And we still have leftovers. (Yum!)
I cleaned, I changed the litter. I gave Alex Catt a bath. She’s easier to bathe than any of my dogs. I watched the Panthers score a fumbledown in handegg(I’ve seen a Punt 6 and a fumbledown in the same season now). Now I’m watching Packers/Lions when it’s all or nothing for the Packers. I fear the worst. But at least meatloaf is in the oven, and I got a Wisconsin Old Fashioned in hand.
That never happen with Gordie. Maggie Wonderbeagle once took a pill wrapped in cheese, wrapped in ham, with bread molded around that, chewed, swallowed the sandwich, and spit out the pill. : headsmack :
And I’m sorry about Lucy.
Nettie the church bylaws state that one is not eligible for Vestry election for two years after one’s term ends. I still have another year to go. Even then, I am not real sure I’d be willin’ to be nominated. It’s still a whole year away, so who knows. I am hopin’ the Vestry gets its act in gear and gets a new full-time Priest in place this year.
And on that note, nighty nite y’all. See ya in the new MMP!
I miss Hickory Farms. They don’t have any stores out this way
I’ve been reading about your weather and it sounds like there is more of the same for a while. Don’t you feel good knowing that you are ready for anything?
You finding mail in the road like that is horrifying. It’s good of you to make such an effort to get it to safety. Did you notice if it was postmarked?
This. We’ve filled more than one propane tank already this year, the propane company has an easy way to do it anonymously and it makes us happy to know that we are doing something that makes an immediate difference in someone’s life. Food banks are always happy to take regular cash donations as are homeless human and animal shelters. It feels good to be able help out where we can.
Sari, what did I miss, I didn’t know Lucy was doing poorly.
Noooo! We aren’t getting old or anything!!! I drink water all day long. I usually have to get up a couple of times a night to pee because I am so waterlogged. I take a daily multi-vitamin. I still get food cramps at night but I refuse be believe that it is age related cause I’m not old enough for that sort of nonsense , damnit.
I cannot edit anyone else’s post. I can’t delete anyone’s post. The most I can do is start the vote to delete a post. I aspire to own a pair of jack-sandals or even flip-flops but I don’t think I’ll ever get a pair. Folks think us leads have all sorts of power, but actually we have about as much power over Nextdoor policy as a gas station clerk has over the price of gas.
HOWEVER, I can add a comment to the discussion and then turn that comment into a post attached to the original post. This will add another thread to the clutter, but at least they should be linked. Thank you very much for the idea.
I actually think that Nextdoor is worth the bother. I wouldn’t be there otherwise. Folks post about lost dogs and needing a house keeper and where to find a mechanic. The produce exchange is always very active during gardening season and currently eggs are a big topic of conversation. (I just learned that there is a person out this way who sells turkey eggs for 5 bucks a dozen.)
Just like any other activity, online or not, moderation is important. I won’t allow politics on the front page, there are other pages for that. Trump is not allowed on the front page, nor is covid and/or vaccination discussions. They all have their own pages where people can act like they are on facebook.
It just really surprised me when so many people were up in arms because we lessened the moderation. Hubs is more cynical…he pointed out that we had put some responsibility on the users and they didn’t like that.
they do mail order and charge accounts …aunts been using them for 40 years and has one of the top 5 non-business accounts (believe me this will never totally get paid in full lol ) … and if you like toffee I recommend the 3 pound tin… we buy 2 every year
It does suck. Have you looked at their gooshy cat fud selection? Their store brand uses great ingredients and back when i worked close to TJs we saved a bunch of money on high quality cat fud.
I had forgotten about Swiss Colony, thank you so much for the reminder! Hubs loves getting fancy sausages in the mail. Off I go to spend money!
Evening all. Sammiches have been eaten and dishes put away, and I changed the PIN for my computer just because I can. Will go forth and watch some more tackleball here in a bit, and probably head off to bed early since I didn’t sleep well last night (will take some Nyquil before slumbertime).
Nettie, nice of you and DH to take the mail somewhere safe; wonder how it ended up there.
FCM, & JtC, I do try to donate where I can, but not as sociable a human being as you folks are, so the opportunities are not that often. Do try to help my old HS soccer team, they charge the kids a $75 participation fee these day so I do contribute a nice sum to them each year.
OK, wearing down some, so all y’all take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.
