Well, it's .. sorry, what year is it? MMP

Aaaaand I get both kids today - Roxy is a tad under the weather. I’m exhausted already!!

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 36 degrees, dark and cloudy. It will be cloudy all day with temps rising to about 47 degrees.

Happy Belated Birthday to OYKW!

Well, it’s back to work today. Ugh. I don’t want to, but I like having a roof over my head and food on the table, so I shall sit at my computer upstairs, have meetings, work on the organization budget and update our shared site, which needs a serious upgrade in looks.

I never knew one could purchase zebra milk. Learn something new every day

I will also call the vet and see about picking up more antibiotics for Polar. He had troubles last night and couldn’t quite make it out of the pet door. I woke up to having to clean up poo right there, but at least it was on the mat by the door.

I got Christmas taken down last yesterday. It was a momentary shock coming down to the village not shining gently on the “snow” this morning. I am glad to have that chore out of my way. I also took care of the usual laundry chores.

FCM, I am hoping for a peaceful passing for the FiL. I hope you and FCD both get some rest soon; both from the inlaw health issues and toddler wrangling. It’s like you both don’t get a moment for yourselves.

I just got that guest bed, so for that reason, I won’t be buying a mattress any time in the near future. I have a mattress topper for it too. The mattress in the master suite is pretty deluxe and hard to beat, so it’s natural that I’d want to sleep there. Believe me, on weekends or days I’m not going to work; I sleep on the guest bed. The other thing about my bedroom is that it’s the quietest room in the house. The guest room faces the A-hole neighbors who can’t leave their house without slamming the door and don’t know anything about indoor voices. I do appreciate all your suggestions, though.

I do often fill the hubby’s CPAP reservoir, but he forgets I’ve filled it, and still wakes me.

Metal Mouse, I found the following article on cold proof cameras. There are probably more, but it was the second hit on my google search. Rugged cameras

Nettie, I’m glad the package is finally arriving. I have had my share of traveling packages. I often wonder what the hell they are thinking.

Time for another cup of coffee. I hope you all have a good day.

Does it need to be movable? Our sandbox when we were kids was 4 boards nailed together in a square with a lot of sand dumped into it. Not sure how it was kept stable on the ground, though. We could sit on the sides without budging it.

Up, for the first day of work in 2 weeks. I don’t wanna! Except I sorta do, because I enjoy my job. It’s just been so nice to not have anything scheduled.

No. The current one is a small round plastic pool, but we didn’t poke holes in the bottom, so it fills with rainwater, despite the cover I’d made (which is now shredded…) Maybe I’ll just get another pool, but put in drain holes. No rush - it can wait till spring, which is probably when pools start showing up in stores around here.

Happy Toosday!

No park today.
Every morning when I wake up, I think, ‘What fresh hell awaits me today?’

My son was in bed. He usually stays up all night on his days off. He still isn’t feeling well and had gone to bed. I told him to stay in bed, and we’d stay home and he said no, he was getting up.
He walked into the kitchen, not knowing that Cerby had pissed all over the floor.
He was not happy, wet socks and he had on pants that are too long, so wet pants too.
I left my coat hanging on a chair, the bottom of my coat touches the floor, so I have to wash my coat.
And Cerby shit in the living room.
We know it was Cerby, by the size of everything.

The house reeks of Nature’s Miracle.

I’m going to go outside with the laser for a while to give him some exercise.
Even though it is pouring rain, and I don’t have a coat.
A jacket will have to do.

Morning all. Will break fast and get out shopping in about an hour, the rain and tunder-boomers are due around noontime and look to be staying around for awhile. It’s 68F outside this morning and should stay in the 60’s all day, so that should help keep the heating bill low.

Taters, looked at a couple of those cameras and they are a bit expensive, will shop around some. Also need a voltage convertor for charging stuff.

FCM, I think FCD is wise to stay there, it’ll also be easier for you to manage your day (I think) without his coming and goings.

DIcey, Oopsie, my brother and I are one year and 19 days apart in age, I kid him that after me they wanted another one fast and after him they lost interest in having another…

JtC, never heard of Zebra milk before, interesting story. I only drink the usual Moo-juice, not sure how I would feel about all the other stuff. But I bet the cheese is good and I hoe the deal with the diner works out to both your benefits.

Nettie, glad the package has (almost) made it to you.

Godbod, thanks for the review, may go see it.

OK, need to break fast and get dressed for the outdoor expedition. All y’all stay dry.

Sari, sometimes I think your name should be Job (after the Biblical character), hang in there.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with a predicted high of 11c/51f out there, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s nice outside if you like overcast fucking nonsense. If you don’t, you’re fucked”. I am back at irk today and also Don Twanna…opened my emails this morning to a deluge of exam nastiness and an urgent request for a student needing a departmental sit with a reader and scribe. For Monday of next week. Arrrrrggghhhhhh! I shall, of course, wave my magic wand and perform minor miracles to accomplish said requirements, because that’s what I do.

FCM sounds like FIL is hanging on out of spite! It’s definitely a good idea for FCD to stay with his parents, it’ll be easier for you to deal with the grandkids without having to worry about him, and he’ll be with his mum who will need his support when the inevitable happens. My mum always said she didn’t want to die in hospital, but that’s what happened. I would have liked her to die at home but also had an absolute horror of turning up at her flat and finding her dead in her favourite chair.

swampy I’m glad OYKW had a good birthday and the ice cream cake went down well.

Sari you must have the patience of a saint to deal with everything you’ve got going on.

Taters separate beds aren’t possible in our house but I’ve spent my share of nights on the sofa because someone else snores loud enough to make the walls shake! Earplugs are good, but they are only so good in blocking out the noise.

Sticky Buns good to see you again! I’m still following your antics (and amazing headgear) on the Book of Faces

Not much else happening here today, I have had one irk meeting and there’s another in 10 minutes so I’d better get my list of questions ready. Grocery shopping later, and I’m in charge of dinner. I pulled a couple of tubs out of the freezer so we’re having potluck leftovers tonight. 'im indoors said nothing in the bit of freezer with leftovers in it was his stuff so all four tubs are mine but I have no idea what they contain. I suspect one’s curry and one’s possibly spagbol but I haven’t opened them to check, that’s going to be some excitement for later.

That was 2020 for me. Hope you can get Cerby sorted out.

The cats are a little grumpy today. Getting some outside time should have improved Buddy’s mood, but I’m not sure it helped.

Today’s the only day for a week with a less than 25% chance of rain, and we’re still draining from the big storm a couple of days ago that had some minor flooding, multiple downed trees (I saw two on a short grocery run Sunday), and some people still without power after several days. The Jungle claims my new rain boots are out for delivery (I picked ones I could get overnighted), and the snails say my roaming box of books is now in Sacramento, with expected delivery today. I’ll believe that one when the box is in my hands.

Still adjusting to the zero-sugar Mt. Dew. Not feeling 100% today, either.

Ah, yes, “freezer roulette.”

Yesterday was a day of utter and complete slothage, including a visit at my friend’s where I brought Chinese food and then we both fell asleep on the couch in front of “Law & Order” with various cats piled around.

Today has gotta be more of a “get shit done” kind of day. Unfortunately, this cold has climbed on top of me and I can’t go three minutes without blowing my nose. This whole “not breathing well” thing has me feeling like crap.

But I gotta:

  • dump/refill the litter box
  • more trash out, now that the bin is empty
  • finish a package and get the damn belated thing mailed out
  • get a new vape battery (my friend gifted me a cart & I can’t get it to work, dammit)
  • … assorted othet crap that I doubt I’ll have energy or bandwidth to deal with

Howdy Y’all! I have an almost overwhelmin’ urge for a peanut butter and strawberry jam sammich with a glass of milk. Obviously that is meant to be N.O.L. for me. My inner five year old is strong today.

Load three of laundry is in the wash. Load two is in the dryer. Load one is all washed, dried and put away. Go Us!

JtC I sincerely hope your friend rethinks the red butter hearts for Valentine’s Day. I have imagined how red butter would look smeared on a roll or glopped on a baked N.O.T. and it is not pretty. However, provided one knows one’s audience, it could be a hoot and a holler on Hallowe’en. If she just must have heart shaped pats of butter, do your best to convince her to leave them butter colored for VD.

I figure if you’re craving a specific food, there’s something in it your body knows it needs.

Well, the rainboots have arrived and been tried on. Not as comfortable as my sneakers, but acceptable (yes, the size was correct). Glossy black with blue glitter.

My mom’s parents and her sister, who was developmentally disabled, live their last years with my folks. My grandmother, then my grandfather, died about a year apart in her house. Then about 10 years ago, her sister died there also. I can’t imagine what it was like for my mom, altho when her sister died, I know it was relief - she’d become really difficult in her later years and it was very stressful for both of them.

I hated the idea of MIL waking one morning to find her husband dead, so I’m glad she’ll have her firstborn with her in these last days.

Tobias is napping and Roxy is waiting to do hidden pictures with me, so I shall sign off for now…

We’re still draining out from one nasty storm over the weekend, and here comes another one (sigh).

Thank you for the suggestions. I’m going to guess she’ll stick with soy milk rather than looking for a camel or zebra, but these are great suggestions! Since interferon-based treatment for iatrogenic HCV, she has lost the ability to eat dairy (cow, sheep, goat), gluten, eggs, most beans, birch-pollen protein analogues (apples, pears, cherries, peaches, celery, carrot, parsnips), and some nuts she used to be able to eat. My thought is that when treatment kicked up her ANA, it pushed her into an unidentified autoimmune syndrome that may have a leaky gut association. She doesn’t get gastric effects, but instead gets ataxia, cognitive issues, and depression–all potentially neurological effects. It gets worse over time and she loses more foods. The post-HCV literature does include the possibility of gluten ataxia, but the medical field seems disinterested and local medical folks don’t have suggestions other than “don’t eat those foods.”

Afternoon all. Did some shopping for the Great Southern Adventure, went to Cabela’s and ended up with wool socks, base layer clothing, mittens, a backpack, and Gortex waterproof pants. Then went to Best Buy and bought a new camera that cost more than all the clothing (when did cameras get so bloody expensive?!). Made it to my car before the monsoon began, did get a nice car wash while heading home and think I’ll stay in till it blows over (around 5pm according to the Weather Wizards). Temperature has gone from 72F to 58F in a very short time, but at least I’m dry.

Food bank will take a donation of my remaining Pepsi 12-packs, so will take them down there this week, forcing me to start on Pepsi Zero (everything I’ve heard says that it is better than Diet Pepsi).

boo fae, enjoy the miracle working, both at your job and in the kitchen…

Alright, back to being a useless burden to polite society. Take care.

Monkey has his clean litter box: a cardboard tray I brought home from work. He can fill 'er up and then the whole thing gets dumped, without the need for wasting hot water etc.

His usual plastic tray is outside in the rain, where Mother Nature is welcome to rinse the damn thing off for me.

Package is packaged, plus I have a stamped card for Other Shoe’s mother (yeah, my MIL, but I don’t think of her that way) to thank her for sending me MY check, not that I really felt like sending yet another mssg that won’t even be acknowledged … but my mother insisted and yanno, sometimes, it’s just easier to go along with the stupid shitshow.

Once I get back home from the P.O. I think I’d like to make myself something nice to eat & sew some cross-stitch in peace.

Right now it’s snowing at a rate of about 2"/hr in Big Minnie. Visibility is probably less than a quarter mile. The Methodist church with the huge spire is just a ghostly outline, and that’s about how far it is from my window.

Dang, stay safe! Looks like sumpin’ wet is heading our way next coupla days.

Swung by my favorite chicken shack (it’s right by the P.O.) but they’re still closed due to a recent hood fire. Pity - they fry a mean thigh, and I like throwing money towards local businesses.

So I stopped by the local taco joint (taco Tuesday, baby!) and got a side of their lovely refried beans for snackin’ upon.

Fartfest to follow.

No worries. Being retired means I can just gaze out the window with a cup of coffee in my hand and think “Boy, driving in that must be a bitch today.”
