:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
You should have contacted me!
You guys familiar with Anoia from Pterry’s Discworld series? She’s the small goddess of lost items, jammed drawers, and the inability to find what you know was right there just a moment ago?
I never realized it before today, but my mom’s filing system is actually one of the chief temples to Anoia.
Mom’s getting paperwork together to apply for Social Security retirement. Except she’s drowning in other stuff and completely psyched herself out. So, it was my job today to find, among other things, her birth certificate, her marriage certificate, and the paperwork from her separation from the Navy.
I also found found both my brothers’ birth certificates, check stubs going back to the 1980s, paperwork for the purchase of the house I grew up in, 1500 miles away, 30 years ago, a report card of mine from third grade, and about six different, scattered files for continuing education units.
I think my next big job for my parents will be organizing the filing system.
. . . .
In the meantime, I got both the second mammogram and the sonogram done. The mammogram was, um, uncomfortable. Apparently, whatever they spotted is very close to the chest wall, so I got arranged, squashed, flattened, and pinched. I really wish the radiologist had just explained she needed to play Statues with me, because she really wasn’t able to verbally explain where she wanted me to put what. The sonogram was almost okay. sigh
I’m really looking forward to the tutoring job, even understanding that I’m going to be working primarily with ESL students from poor families - nothing wrong with those circumstances, but they do tend to correlate with poor behavior, drug use, violence in the home. However, the owner of the tutoring franchise, while not a teacher, appears very supportive. The idea is simply to help the kids improve their standardized test scores in reading and/or math. (Any student who qualifies for free/reduced lunch can take advantage of the tutoring program, so the boss is trying to find a pre-calc tutor for a very determined high school junior!)
Oh, and my niece declared on Facebook that all those OWS people need to shut up and get jobs. Explaining that there were more unemployed people than there were jobs just got me a suggestion that they should apply at McDonald’s. Uh huh. Why do I have to do the research to persuade my relative to stop being a butthead?
Harvey - tell your niece to look at it this way. Tell her to imagine the company she works for has to downsize, or better yet fold altogether. Then tell her to just apply to McD’s
: bows in homage :
rosie’s sig to everybody. Between hockey, work, drinking with my buddy from San Jose, and texting with the “just friend”:), I’m barely skimmed this week.
Well, I still have it. It’s just in a trash bag. It was a new bag so there shouldn’t be any food or other crap in there, except maybe some paper towels. It’s really pretty bad though. A lot of it is massively ugly. Another bunch is broken. A bit is unmatched pairs.
Our visit was awesome. Sweetie’s chili was excellent, as always. Contrary to what Sweetie thinks, I’m not the only freak in the world that eats fruit and it went over well. The female half of the couple brought us pigs in a blanket made with some kind of Hillshire Farms turkey dogs. They were very good. She also brought pumpkin pie and chocolate covered cherries. She’s my new best friend. The male half of the couple is madly in love with my dogs and they got a whole lot of lovin’ from him. We played Rock Band and talked and laughed and it was a very nice break from cleaning and homework.
Forgot to mention…
When we first set up the Rock Band stuff, I took the opportunity to straighten out the living room closet (contains Wii stuff, Nerf stuff, xBox stuff, and fire starting stuff - fun closet). While cleaning, I found a box of Wii parts. Turns out that all this time that we’ve been going through massive amounts of batteries, we actually had a Wii-mote charger and rechargable battery packs for both. :smack: I’m such an ass. I’m the one who bought them and didn’t even realize I had them. How did I manage that? I honestly don’t remember buying the charger at all.
I suspect that dear niece is planted deep in the Just World fallacy and believes that bad things like layoffs only happen to the lazy and shiftless. Thus they deserve McDonald’s. Such a thing could NEVER happen to her!
Tell ya what - If you can send me pics of the ones you call ugly, I’ll let you know if I want any of them. I’ll PM you my email
Ooohh Congo! I’d have taken the jewelry as well. That’s just a bag full of potential, right there. Anyrose, you would have loved the rock and mineral show I went to last year. There was truck bed stuffed full of cos jewelry and such. I swooned a little (and then had to run away because this sorta odd guy kept following me around).
Feeling a little less blicky, and suspect I just needed a nap.
I’m trying the second batch of ribs with Rebo’s Rub Recipe tomorrow. Also a tweak by adding liquid after the first hour.
There’s still time to stop me if this sounds like a bad idea. Cooking with margarita mix is a bit :dubious: but Alton Brown says it’s good.
Bring on the caffeine (Diet Coke)!!
Yesterday afternoon I went to a couple of flea markets with my dad. This turned into something like an 8 hour adventure. (Which, frankly, is none too surprising. This sort of thing happens all the time when we’re together.) Well, anyways, after flea marketing we stopped for dinner on the way back and he left his headlights on and killed the car battery. Fortunately, we were only about 10 minutes away from my house at that point so we called me mom to come rescue us. At any rate, this is a long explanation leading to a short ending. After all the running around it was very cold outside and I was tired so I didn’t do any of the usual stuff to get ready for today’s show. So… here I am now, awake entirely too early to get ready. Fortunately, my mom is going with me today since she’s on vacation so that should help some, too.
There were way too many commas and stuff in there, I think.
Ugh. Either I ate too much fruit last night, or I have food poisoning. Did I say ugh already? Well…ugh.
Went to bed at 1:30 and developed horrible nausea around 2:00. Gave up trying to sleep at 2:30. I read my history book on the couch until I fell asleep some time after 3:30 and then woke up at 5:00. I’ve been up since then. Well, up and down. I’m managing about 15 minutes between bathroom trips.
If anyone knows of a way to break subconscious programming which prevents vomiting, I’d love to know how. I wish I could go back in time to tell my 5 year old self that not everything that causes puking causes uncontrollable puking for 5 days straight (I had a fractured head). My dumb 5 year old self brainwashed myself and now I’m stuck with the stomach ickies because the fast way to get rid of them is defective.
Phooey.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN Tis 46 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of <snerk> 69! <snerk> Tomorrow the predicted high is 83. Go figure.
wiki hope your bf problems are all resolved soon. Plus, BEER!!!
I love that song.
shortdrum feel better!
Good luck StickyBuns!
Ashes[sup]2[/sup] cookin’ with margarita mix will either be really good or really bad. I encourage doin’ it and then reportin’ back to us on how it went.
Ok, now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. N.O.L. shall be not too bad Chinese [del]hog trough[/del] buffet so I’m told.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Up, caffeinated, off to irk. Gotta work all day today.
I think I know why I’ve been grumpy. I awoke today to a screaming headache and technicolor boogers. I haven’t had a sinus infection since we left Indiana…

Just for you Bobbio!
Company’s coming and I need to tidy up. That’s my least favorite cleaning because you have to go through and put away all the weird stuff. There’s a roll of purple duct tape in the kitchen because it needs to be there, that’s why.
Oh SwampyPants, I’m not going to drink the Margarita mix. That could be a great cookbook though. Every recipe starts with a couple drinks and by the end you don’t care if it tastes good. Or even if you finish cooking!
Ashes[sup]2[/sup] why not drink margaritas. Some for you, some for the recipe. It’s all win-win!
Leavin’ shortly for an early N.O.L. at not too shabby Chinese [del]hog trough[/del] buffet. Then, I shall go by collard greens for the Turkey Day feast. I want to wash, tear and bag 'em today cause that’s the worst part. Plus, I have assistance to tear and bag today.
Happy Sattidiy!
I make it home from the AR and then went to Tulsa and back yesterday. I have driven 1512 miles for work this week. I40 west in OK is not that interesting - the AR piece is nice but OK is kind of a dull drive.
Anyway - today involves Target and Christmas Shopping. mr ems is proving difficult to shop for. But I do not want to be still shopping after next weekend as it will get a little nuts. I have done a lot online but I now it is down to the little nitty gritty stocking stufer things. I will also by decorating our Christmas tree tomorrow which I need to buy today from Target. I love Target but this may be an expensive trip!
I forgot to add the best part - we closed on the Short Sale of the house in CA yesterday. Whoohoo! I am no longer a homeowner and my credit has taken a big ding but I did not end up having to provide 125K in cash to pay the differnce in what the house was worth vs what I owed.
I loved the house though - perfect neighbourhood, perfect size, tons of big windows so lots of natural light, nice yard…Le sigh
Bobbbbbbio, maybe you and I got the same crud. Although at least my 24 hour headache is gone. I’m sending anti-sick thoughts to you, cuz we must be well for T-Day!
Had prime rib for din-din last night, although due to the 24 hour headache I could only eat a few bites. But I managed to scarf down the pecan coffeecake bread pudding for dessert. Having leftovers tonight, which is the perfect amount of cooking after spending the day with the Wonder Pony. Did my grocery shopping at 8am this morning to avoid the crowds, but of course the store did NOT have pearl onyums so I must go somewhere else. :sigh::
I woke up angry this morning. Don’t know why.
