Whaaaaaa? Galaxy S7 Edge commercial

I’m a White guy, so maybe I don’t have a right to an opinion; but the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge commercial seems a mite racist.

How so?

It depicts African-American adults as children fascinated with making messes because (shock!) they bought water-resistant phones.

No, it shows Lil’ Wayne being Lil’ Wayne. And how does putting a phone in a fish tank make a mess?

I don’t know who Li’L Wayne is. The mess is them pouring champagne all over the place.

I see it as depicting all African Americans as super rich people who can afford to waste champagne and who have fish tanks and extra waterproof phones to give to their friends.

He is a very successful and wealthy rapper. It could have just as easily been done with someone like Justin Bieber.

It’s not “African american adults” it’s a specific super star acting goofy.

Who?

This is it exactly.

You may also recognize him from the Apartments.com Super Bowl ad where Wheezy (a nickname of his) “moved on up”

Trivia: Lil Wayne is a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers…so he’s not all bad

I guess it’s just me, then.

Maybe this is a specific famous star who’s known for puerile stunts like this, but if you don’t already know that, it sure looks insulting.

i find the Whaaaaaaaaaaat just as annoying as hearing “my bad”.

Yes. I don’t know who he is.

I’ll at least say it’s not just you. The fish tank part is fine, but the rest of it brings to mind stereotypical “uncivilized” behavior for me. That it’s Lil Wayne, rich rapper, doing it changes the optics a little bit, but it still makes me cringe a little.

All of his Samsung commercials are great. And his delivery in this one - “how are people supposed to know how rich and carefree I am?” - completely cracks me up.

Racist!

I apologise for hijacking this thread, but does anyone know how switch over to the 24hr clock on the Galaxy 7? Thanks. And no I didn’t buy the phone because of that commercial.

Clearly, I’m not the target demographic because I didn’t know who it was and thought it was insulting. I also don’t know when I’d ever need a waterproof phone. At least I’ve heard of Lil’ Wayne, though.

Sure you do; you were told in post #7.
