Whaddya mean, it's December in the MMP?!?

Happy Belated Birthday, sunny!

sari, I’m so sorry to hear about your family’s antics over the inheritance.

pullin, I’m so glad to hear you’re okay.

I keep dipping out for a few days to weeks and missing a ton, so I know I’ve left something out.

It was freezing this morning when my friend and I went out for our waddle. I keep thinking, “Well, if it’s below X, I’m out.” Today was 18F when I woke up. I’d said earlier that 20F was my line, but apparently I lied. I’m sleepy but glad we got it done. There is no way I’d do that without the neighbor lady banging on my door at 5:20 (did I mention she usually arrives early for our 5:30 am date?). It took me longer to peel all my layers off than it probably did to shower.

The husband unit has a minor outpatient surgery tomorrow, so I took the day off. Overlyboy takes the SAT this weekend and we’re all (minus overlyhusband) running, or waddling in my case, a 5K on Sunday. I’m assuming nappage shall occur on both afternoons. And Christmas decorating. Ah, yes - the thing I keep forgetting to do, much like Halloween decorating, which I forgot about until Halloween night.

Just peeked at my irk email. There are over 70 messages in it. Usually it gets so slow at the end of the month and around holidays that I get a little anxious. I need to hit the ground running on Monday.

Y’know, I’ve never really hated Christmas music. Yeah, I’m one of those GOOBERS who starts listening to it the moment Halloween ends! MWAAHAHAHAHAHAAA!

That being said, though, I don’t listen to ONLY Christmas music. I still listen to regular songs from my playlist, and I have Christmas music as an occasional “flavour,” if you will.

Is that like the FDA allowance of up to a certain amount of insect parts and rat droppings in your food?

LOL! Got a good laugh from that.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 5c/40f with a predicted high of abitover5c/41f and cloudy. Weather app says “True story. Mammatus clouds look like fucking boobs.” So that’s you told.

Happy belated birthday, Sunny, I hope you had a good one!

flyboy I came back from a week off irk, and my personal inbox had over 250 emails in it. Fortunately a bunch were copies from another inbox that I use but I still totalled over 200 that apparently nobody but me can deal with :frowning:

sari hope you feel better soon, and the boy learns that driving is a vital life skill that will help him tremendously when he wants to be truly independent.

Our trip home was blissfully uneventful, we stopped at my favourite service station (favourite because it’s run by a small company and produces locally-sourced fresh food every day) for food and to fill up the car. We were home in less than 7hrs so that’s always a bonus. I stripped the bed and put the duvet in the wash, then put some neutraliser on the mattress where we could see that Ophelia had wee’d on it. After letting it sit for 10 minutes, I cleaned it off and we turned the mattress over so I could remake the bed with the winter half of the duvet. Once the duvet came out of the machine, the bedding went in and that’s now drying in the bathroom.

The poor old girl does not look good at all. She’s had her meds and had a bit of food this morning but she’s been sound asleep almost all day. I can see that she’s not grooming herself but that might just be because she doesn’t feel well. We are seeing the vet tomorrow morning, I’ve told 'im indoors that he needs to come too, I have a feeling there might be some tough decisions to make. However, she’s warm, safe and as comfortable as possible for now, and I still hope that the vet can work a miracle for her tomorrow.

{ gentle scritches for Ophelia }

At the risk of jinxing it, I got Tobias down to nap just a bit ago so I can lunch in peace…

FCD’s aunt, who visited last week, asked for my brussels sprouts and sweet potato casserole recipes, so I had to dig them out and make sure I noted the changes I made to the originals.

Daughter will pick up pizza on her way here after her afternoon appointments, so supper is taken care of. That means I can chill for a bit, till the kidlet wakes.

BooFae - hugs for you and your kitteh.

I think both of you are right on both counts. I wonder which dark rum I should look for? Please cross your fingers for me that I don’t forget to buy that other string of lights and come out of Target with just the rum.

And more gentle scritches and hugs from me.

Mount Gay Eclipse

Hugs and skritches for every cat, young and old. Yes, that applies to all you hep cats as well.

Gentle skritches to Ophelia from me too, BooFey

I am not a rum drinker, but the kids buy something called Cruzan. To me rum tastes like airplane glue, although I once was gifted a bottle of rum from Puerto Rico that was as smooth and tasty as 30 year old scotch. Wish I knew what it was.
I’ll look for that Mount Gay Eclipse, but I doubt the Oregon Liquor Control Commission allows it into the state.

As Swampy says, a good shrimp and grits is a thing of beauty and a joy for…10 or 15 minutes. There was a restaurant in Portland just down the street from the Art Museum that made a proper shrimp and grits. Can’t remember the name of it now, but it was Wifey’s first experience of shrimp and grits and she, surprisingly, liked it.

Hope y’all have a great almost-friday.

:musical_note: It’s beginning to look a lot like Thursday! Whatever that means to you. For me it means making vegan muffins (The secret ingredient is vegans.), caramelizing onions for the quinoa-and-pesto dish I’m making for dinner, washing towels (chugging their way to cleanliness as I type), and making a welcome sign for my son-in-law’s sister. I “adopted” her several years ago, so I’m looking forward to her visit. So is dogkin. Dogkin gets excited if a leaf visits from an oak tree.

Taters, sounds like you got even more snow than we did. There’s ice beneath the snow, but I senses everything getting melty. I’m betting schools are closed, though. Boggles my mind. When my Wyo students saw on the news that schools were closed somewhere for less than 2 feet of snow, they got jealous and irate. Anyway, glad you don’t have to go out in it today.

NOTHING is as crazy as what Doggio goes through. If you hit Approaching Doggio level, our armed forces go on high alert and preppers head to their bathrooms fallout shelters. Besides, with all you’ve got going on, your tolerance for Crazy must be pretty low. I think you need shady to show you the cheap hot spots for a night on the town.

red, enjoy your day of sloth.

wordy, best of luck on the hub’s surgery tomorrow.

CorpusNeptune, do you have a Mumper name? If not, I propose WARFRAME, as I’m guessing that’s what your SD name refers to. Or is that too hard to remember?

BooFae, please keep us updated on Ophelia. Sending her scritches.

FCM, sending good weather vibes. I hope you get a good, spendy crowd regardless.

Get the big bottle, and you’ll be seeing lights whether you buy another string or not.

I like how you think.:tumbler_glass::tropical_drink:

Being completely honest, CorpusNeptune is just a random combination of words I thought sounded cool, haha. But WARFRAME is pretty badass.

ETA: Boo’s never-ending tree saga:

Doing my pre-shopping research (a necessity since I have no energy or effort tolerance to waste since hauling around Big Oxygen came on the scene). It turns out the green wire/clear lights strings that Target has in stock have hideous reviews, nothing but 1⭐️s and dire warnings not-to-buy. I looked up Lowe’s offerings and they have in stock what I need in a reliable brand at 50% off. Works for me. My experience with Lowes has always been bearable compared to other places and I can buy them online from the comfort of my couch, with a fresh cup of coffee in my hand and have them waiting for me to pickup. The best part is that Lowes shares a parking lot with the best liquor store in town so I’ll have a good chance to score some of that Mount Gay rum. The clerks are delightful there-they’ll happily spend 15 minutes finding the perfect rum for me, even if I’m buying the smallest, cheapest bottle. Plus, they are the only store in town that carries a selection of mead, which I think speaks well of them.

I hope I enjoy this damn tree once it’s done~it’s been a trial. Kinda reminds me of why I gave up putting up Christmas trees 15 years ago. I may leave it up all of January to make up for what it has put me through. I do love fairy lights and have missed them. At the very least my big window got cleaned of the kitty snot, so there is that.

An otter just passed under the deck and catio, then went around the back of the neighbour’s trailer. It was like three or four feet long from nose to tail.

@CorpusNeptune

The sports bar where we occasionally eat lunch was playing Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” one afternoon in July. We asked our waitress and she explained that they used an online music service for their feed and that they had been hacked.

A truly devious hacker indeed. :wink:

Dooooo ittttt you won’t regret it. Those pretty lights are uplifting no matter what the season, especially when the nights are dark and full of terrors … ahem, I mean, long.

Well, hello, stranger. Welcome to our tiny little corner of this lil’ ol’ message board. Been lurking long, or have I just not noticed you among the shadows lately?

After 30 years in the Bible Belt, I still can’t get used to the idea of picking up hooch along with my toothpaste.

Speaking of shopping, I wrapped up (HA!) my Secret Santa shopping, and while I was at it, bought a fresh box of Christmas cards. I’m actually excited about them!

Now, then. Here’s the thing:

I’m excited enough to wanna send some to my Mumper buddies. But if anyone’s sent me their address, I … haven’t coherently organized my PMs, to say the least.

So, if anyone wants to exchange cards - or hell, if you just want one, no reciprocity expected - just PM me your address.

I’ve never really bothered interacting with MMP threads, so this is pretty new to me. Seems fun, though.
