What Are You Cooking Now?

They weren’t expensive either - $2 for 3 of them on a skewer.

Any recipe by chance?

Oh, I’m not so fancy that I make my own vinaigrette- I just bought some at the store (Maple Grove Farms of Vermont Citrus Vinaigrette) + shredded cabbage. Easy, refreshing, delicious!

Pasta salad… cook up some refridgerated cheese pasta, drain and rinse under cold water. Cut up some Kalamata olives and some salami, add a handful of parmesan cheese, and stir the whole mess up with some Ranch salad dressing. Chill for a few minutes then eat. Yum.

Psh, not fancy. Red Wine vinegar + penzey’s italian seasoning + canola oil is lazy and not fancy :p. I like the concept of bottled dressings, just never found a good one I like (beyond Industrial Ranch, which is awesome)

Bread, cheese sauce, vegetables for dinner tonight. We have a lot of milk and cheese hanging around. I cut up cucumbers, peppers, and celeray, and got some asparagus ready to steam.

Tomorrow with probably be burgers for Canada Day. And hot dogs. I was thinking about doing mine as a banh mi, with nuoc cham and cilantro. It sounds good.

Chicken pineapple tacos tonight!

Since I have a rare summer Saturday off, I’ve got a bit of a fiesta going. On the smoker currently sits: 1 whole beef brisket (9 pounds), 1 Boston butt (7.5 pounds). Barbecue beans are cooking on the stovetop, made with smoked beef neck bones from a few weeks ago. Still need to run out to get something vaguely vegetable-like. Probably just going to make some coleslaw, but maybe I’ll throw an eggplant or zucchini or something on the grill, too.

Mmmm boston butt.

Last night was breakfast for dinner! My usual brand of free range eggs went MIA at Whole Foods (and the local natural/organic store went out of business last month0 so I sent 'em an email, hoping there’s an explanation. So we had scrambled eggs and buckwheat blueberry pancakes. I had a hankering for custard too, so we went out for that.

Going to a cookout today, bringing 2 six packs, probably of Heineken. I’m gonna make this baby red potato salad later tonight. Make sure you up dill though - I used 1/4 cup or more :D. I love the “lighter” nature of it, with sour cream and mayo instead of just mayo.

Right now the wife has this going in the crock pot. With fresh tortillas from the place down the street, tonight’s dinner is going to be tasty!

Mmm now that looks good. Maybe we’ll try that this weekend.

The salmon wasn’t so good. It had lemon pepper, garlic, butter and dill. I think it would be better with less dill (there was too much for the pieces we had) and lemon instead of lemon pepper.

Haven’t decided what to make, yesterday was busy out for Canada day and today is errands so we haven’t started anythings. I have to think.

Oh, yum! I love pineapples. Been waiting for them to go on sale for $1 like they do every summer, so I can go nuts with them. Pineapple pie, here we come! Pineapple tacos- I’ll have to look into those!

After weeding the garden in 90 degree heat I don’t feel like cooking!

So dinner tonight will likely be leftover greens-and-pasta, but with turnips and kale (we are getting a LOT of turnips this year, I’m having to find new ways to cook them), leftover beet-beef-and-cabbage-soup, and maybe turkey sandwhiches.

Or maybe I’ll roast some turnip roots. Or maybe make chicken salad.

On top of eating a lot of stuff from the garden, I’ve also given away a head of lettuce, two turnips, 6 onions, and about a pound each of chard and kale this week - I can’t keep up with it all, can’t eat/cook it all, can’t find the time to process/freeze it all (and I"m running out of freezer space anyhow) so my neighbors are benefitting.

Just made a no-bake banana cream pie with Nilla Wafer crust.

Should be good after the spicy pork tacos tonight.

burp

Made the roast turnips. Gosh those take a long time to get done, don’t they?

I wish you were my neighbor!

I stopped at the farmer’s market today. Vine ripened tomatoes, cottage cheese, sweet corn and blackberries with just a little splenda sprinkled on top. It’s too hot to cook here too.

I missed this thread for a couple of days. I made pork tongue, and but that’s all for now.

Today, we’re grilling homemade luganega sausage, asparagus & radishes. Then we’re going to toss it with smoked mozzarella tortellini. NOMNOM.

Today I tried that dill potato salad and loved it! I also marinated some chicken thighs (commercial marinade but it was pretty good, lemon and black pepper) and made a first attempt at the Simply Recipes gazpacho. It was a hot day and perfect for minimal hot food. I can’t wait for lunch tomorrow and leftovers. Velociraptor wasn’t too happy with anything but the chicken though.

Tomorrow is crock pot sauerkraut and porkchops.

Steak tips on the grill, with macaroni salad and potato salad on the side.

Enchilada casserole, with black beans and cheese in it. Might do something on the side, but I haven’t decided.

Does cleaning 10 pounds of greens preparatory to freezing them count as “cooking”? 'Cause that’s what I did for a few hours this afternoon. Also got radishes, turnips, and beets out of the garden.

Dinner tonight will be sausage, couscous, and vegees - carrots and peas from the garden, supplemented with green beans from a can.
