I’ve tried ever so hard to fall in love with Fleet Foxes, and while there is no denying that the music is great, I find it incredibly boring for some reason. I cannot explain it.
I find this hilarious, because it was exactly my reaction to Fleet Foxes. “I should really like this,” I thought, “But I really don’t.”
I’ve been listening to Lady Gaga’s The Fame almost non-stop for about three weeks now. Fantastic record. This is what Madonna and Kylie’s latest albums should have been. I hope Gaga becomes huge in spite of Christina Aguillera blatantly stealing from her.
Just downloaded Dedication 3 the other day. I’ve only listened to it once so far, but I like it okay. On my first listen I don’t like it as much as Da Drought 3, but who knows.
An album that I’m having a hard time getting through for some reason is Murs For President. I really don’t get it. I like Murs a lot, and I don’t dislike the portion of the album I’ve listened to, but it’s just not doing a lot for me. I think I’m just going to have to be in the right mood to really get into it.
I’ll probably pick up Beyonce’s latest this weekend, because I’ve been listening to “If I Were a Boy” and “Put a Ring On It” a lot.
I’m taking this as a recommendation-- I’ll have to hit a music store tomorrow.
Any other good pop to offer up?
(Oh, and I guess I should say what I’ve been listening to, but it’s mostly older stuff. Been relistening to Ritual de lo Habitual by Jane’s Addiction, early/mid-era Sonic Youth for my rock fix; Lenka, Anna Nalick, and Sara Barreilles for my poppy female singer-sogwriter fix (a genre I dig like cotton candy and can never really talk about)).
I’ve been listening to the soothing, silvery medieval chanting of The Anonymous 4 in their CD called Love’s Illusion. In fact, this reminds me that I’d like to order up a few more of their CDs as gifts this Christmas.
I’m Aesiron on there as well and I just glanced over your profile. I was intrigued by a few of the artists in your top fifteen; Moloko and Madreblu, specifically.
I understand it had something to do with their… um, habits…
Yeah, a bit. They do both traditional and contemporary stuff. You can check them out here, and their “greatest hits” album You Couldn’t Have Come at a Better Time is available on iTunes- it’s quite good.
Animal Collective has just dominated my ears since February. I liked them before, but then things just took off. I’m not exagerrating when I say that I doubt 5 days have passed since March 1 where I haven’t listened to at least one of their albums (so long as you include Panda Bear’s “Person Pitch”). I just can’t get over them. New stuff, old, or in between, and live or studio, it doesn’t matter. I’ve yet to hear something from them that I’d rank below an A-.
Good Charlotte at the moment (I’m not usually too interested in current emo pop* because it’s so self-indulgent and boring, but these guys are surprisingly good).
*They probably think they’re punk, but they’re not.
Just finishing Dylan Bootleg 8 which I got for my birthday. The other musical thing that I got was Mike Oldfield’s Millennium Bell concert in Berlin New Years Eve 2000. Then back to Beethoven piano concertos and symphonies not conducted by Bernstein - those I went through already.
I’m listening to the Death Magnetic album by Metallica, their 9th studio album, and their first good album in a very long time. Actually it’s a great album - Rick Rubin is a genius!
