What are you taking to T'giving dinner?

I’m making the green bean casserole and broccoli souffle.

I’ll be making green bean casserole, and hubby will be making apple-cranberry pie. I may be doing mashed potatoes, but only because last year my MIL made instant potatoes. She didn’t think anyone would mind or notice! Pshaw - I told her that if she even thought about doing that again to call me and I would gladly make them from scratch.

Wine and pie.

I’m going to try a Malbec with Thanksgiving this year, and a Pinot.

DeVena’s Drunken Cranberry Sauce.

Really, nothing makes Thanksgiving with Mrs Damn, Mr Damn and the whole Damn family better than a liberal application of bourbon.

I’m taking me. I’m the entertainment. I always end up taking over the discussions and driving them off into a tree.
I always get invited back, too.
They don’t learn, apparently.

I’ll be bringing the sweet potatoes. I’ll probably be making them twice—one time for my husband’s family and one time for mine. I smash them with vanilla and spices, then top with a crushed walnut/brown sugar topping and bake. If I don’t make them, my husband will cry. (I hinted that I was thinking of trying a new recipe this year and he begged me not to.)

I will probably make my artichoke-sourdough stuffing, and I almost always make the gravy once I’m there, if I don’t host it myself.

I have a sugar pumpkin eyeing me from the kitchen table, and I guess it’s about time that I decided what to do with it too. Pumpkin cream pie, maybe?

One loaf plain pumpkin bread.
One loaf chocolate chip pumpkin bread.

It’s the one thing I can make that comes out just like my mom’s, aka amazingly moist and wonderful.

Nothing & everything. I do all the cooking myself. Turkey, thebestdamnstuffingintheworld, taters, gravy, etc. I am a great turkey chef.

Guest can bring their choice of drinks or desserts.

We don’t really do Thanksgiving, but for Black Friday Potluck, I’ll be bringing a sweet potato-pecan pie and a pumpkin pie.

This sounds wonderful! Are you willing to share the receipe or is it one of those deep dark family secrets?

Two trays of lasagna. Tried to do the turkey in years past, but the 18 pound cooked bird didn’t travel or reheat well.

I was asked to bring my glazed carrots & parsnips. If I’m ambitious I’ll also do creamed spinach.

There’s already talk of who’s making what for Christmas. If I’m not tapped to make the main dish, I’m gonna be pissed.

Would they let you get away with butternut squash? It looks kind of like sweet potatoes. It’s what I’ll probably bring this year (it was a huge hit last year). The recipe’s from Joy of Cooking. I peel the squash and cube it, steam it until it’s soft, and mash it with butter, brown sugar, nutmeg (I think; don’t have the recipe in front of me) and the key ingredient: ground ginger. Yummy. I, too, hate sweet potatoes.

Not a damn thing.

I’m irritated with my mother-in-law.

A pair of helpful hands. Its just immediate family this year, so only 6 of us eating. Since its not the 17 people like last year, I know mom’s going to have some eclectic dish that I MUST help her make. Between that, setting the table, mashing the potatoes (been doing that since I was old enough to see over the counter) and helping dad with the turkey outside I don’t need to bring any dishes myself.

I have no earthly idea. I don’t even know who’s having it yet.

If my BIL is having it, most likely a side dish and salad.
If my SIL is having it, most likely an appetizer and a dessert.
If my MIL is having it, most likely a salad and rolls, maybe a side dish.
If I’m having it, I’m screwed.

I’m making pumpkin cheescake (there will be other desserts) and “nuts and bolts” (chex mix, basically)

A big-ass bowl of yummy mashed potatoes and maybe a pie of some sort. The Tashaboy can make that.

I have also been tapped to help my mother with the turkey; luckily we always get a small one because we all PREFER ham, so I don’t have to go over there super-early. My dad’s getting up early to prepare the ham.

I’ve been asked to bring an appetizer or two. I’d rather do dessert, I’m good at at it. But, noooooo, I’m asked to bring appetizers.

Christmas is MY gig. I do all the main dishes, prime rib roast, mashed taters, gravy with red wine and chanterelle mushrooms, plenty of sides (haven’t decided yet what they’ll be). I’ll ask the others to bring appetizers, and desserts. Yes, I know I whined about not being able to bring dessert, but for Christmas, I’m too busy with the other stuff to worry about dessert.
