What Are You Yanks Doing Over the 4th?

I’m working Saturday, but then I’m off for four
days. I will do my laundry after work, then go
to NYC and stay till Wednesday afternoon. I lived
on the NYC streets for six months in 1981, and
I always love staying there a few days.

I do not drink. I was a huge wino at one time,
and when my stomach damn near died I gave it
up (my brother gave it up when he was in the
hospital with kidney and liver failure; my
sister, when she was driving drunk, had an
accident and lost the use of her arm and damn
near lost the arm. I got off lucky).

Wednesday I will go back to New Jersey and get
cleaned up for work.

Thursday(tonight)- volleyball and drink

Friday — Plan for fishing tournament and drink(Happy Hour)

Saturday – Fish and drink

Sunday – not sure

Monday – Scaring up a game of Axis and Allies: European Theater and drinking.

Tuesday – Spend the day looking for a way out of going to the fireworks and then give in to make the future wife happy.

You’ve got the three day work week the recuriter told me about: yesterday, today and tomorrow and they all look the same after a while.
I’m leveraging an alternate work schedule day Friday with a vacation day Monday to get five days off. Going to the rifle range Tomorrow with a budddy then down to Tucson to see my folks Saturday and Sunday. Monday will be an inner tube float down the salt river with a non-SD lady friend and Strainger if he makes it. No specific plans for the fourth but a picnic sounds good.

I’m going to have a traditional holiday of getting drunk and blowing stuff up. great fun!

I am working both Monday and Tuesday – atleast I get paid time and a half on Tuesday and get an extra holiday some other time.

Ah…Roman Candle Bottle and Bottle rocket wars…making single use model rockets that go up nice and pretty and come down in much less pretty shape, helped by the firecrackers inside them…

This weekend, I’ll be cleaning, building game computer, and trying to get my web server up and running.

I have to work on Monday, so the 4th won’t be a huge blowout for me. (It usually isn’t anyway.)

There’ll be a neat fireworks display down on the plaza, over the river. It’s within a few blocks walk, so I may mosey down to check it out. Then again, I can see most of it from an upstairs window if the trees don’t block too much, so I may just enjoy them from home.

Plan to put the woofer on her tie-out, do some garden puttering, then pop a bottle of good wine I’ve been saving, grill something special-but-as-yet-undecided and toast the country.

Life in the fast lane.

This year, my family and I are actually going to one of our family reunions. The last time we went was in 1987, so it’s been a long time. I’m actually looking forward to it, because it’s the first time I get to fly on a plane, and meet people who I share some of my genetic code with ;). We actually like our relatives, because theyre pretty sane, and laidback. I’m just waiting to see what questions, if any they ask of us California natives (My family, and my mother’s cousins family who is putting it on). We can go to this one because it’s in So Cal instead of the Midwest like it usually is.

The itinerary from the letter is:

Sunday - My mom’s cousins will be at Corona Del Mar Beach for an all day cookout and fun. This is where most of the getting to know you will probably happen for us.

Monday - it doesnt say. I guess this is a rest day, and a “do whatever you want in So Cal” thing. Might just relax that day. Not sure, but the ones who get there on Saturday get to help plan the next day’s activities (i think maybe they’ll figure out something then for monday).

Tuesday - My mom’s cousin has set it up so at the hotel, we are having a nice lunch out near the pool. Then around 6:00 PM we’re going to my mom’s cousin’s house for a BBQ and to watch the fireworks.

Anyway, it will be a nice change of pace from our usual 4th of july (watch fireworks in Monterey, or do some here (Im the family pyro)). I hope it will be fun. My entire family gets to go this year, so we wont feel too “out of the loop” since we dont know our other relatives that well.

Gotta work on the 4th, but I get holiday pay for it :), friends will come over, we will throw large chunks of meat from various species on hot grill, drink beer, throw an extra special bloody animal part in honor of all PETA assholes, drink more beer, bond with son over some seriously cool high-explosive fireworks imported from Alabama. (Florida law only allows us to have real wimpy fireworks, the ones from Alabama can sink a small destroyer if properly used)

Oh yeah…and one more thing, Eve…ain’t no Yanks down here!
