I live in the US and its just another Friday.
Well, I wasn’t sure exactly where my plans fit into the poll, so I didn’t vote yet.
I have a bunch of wine glasses to hand wash then I plan to fall asleep in front of the TV.
You’re Canadian - you know the rule - you do the outside stuff when you can.
I’m baking cupcakes, walking to the grocery store for eggs to bake the cupcakes, painting closets, cleaning the house and shopping online today - so basically a normal Friday.
My family’s doing our Thanksgiving on Saturday, so today I’m grocery shopping and cooking. Our “actual” Thanksgiving day dinner was yummy butterbeans and cornbread!
Cooking with leftovers - we just had this fabulously yummy soup for lunch. Tomorrow we will make mole with the rest of the leftover turkey and turkey stock. Later tonight we are hosting the 2nd dinner party in a row for some friends, including one who is in for the holiday (I didn’t know until last Saturday that we were going to host Thanksgiving, or I would have planned differently!). Georgian spice-rubbed pork for that is in the Crock-Pot, adn rest should be simple (plain rice, spinach, beets). I am not making a dessert - going to use a Groupon and go to a local baklava joint.
Also snagged some 40% off clearance deals online on some cotton dresses, etc. Was thinking about braving Costco for our regular weekly grocery run, but I don’t know - maybe not.
I’m sick so I’m lying around doing not a heck of a lot. I was only awake for 6 hours yesterday.
You would have to hold me at gunpoint to get me to go to any retail location today. Ugh.
So far, I’ve been lying on the couch laughing at the idiots in all the “Black Friday” videos being uploaded to YouTube.
Usually I completely opt-out of the Black Friday shopping bullshit, but I had to drive past a Walmart late last night anyway. So I went in around 11pm last night to see the mayhem in action. There were a few cops outside the store. I picked out some yarn I wanted (it wasn’t on sale) and saw hundreds of people standing in super-long checkout lines. I squirmed my way through a few crowds and got in a comparatively very short line in the middle (I only had to wait 20 minutes instead of an hour+). It was very hot and loud, but everyone was basically civil. A very well-behaved crowd by Black-Friday-at-Walmart standards! (I’m sure the police presence helped out with that) Then there were a bunch of receipt checkers at the door who I just walked past. I wasn’t about to wait in another goddamn line.
Then I got home around midnight and shopped newegg’s sales online. I bought a power supply I’ve been needing that was on super-markdown. Gotta love it. No plans for today other than sleeping in, ordering a pizza, and sitting on my ass!
We had a 2 hour drive home from my Mom’s house. Now I’m trying to to rebuild a NetBook that I dropped a couple of days ago.
Went to work to borrow some software and a portable DVD drive. Got a pizza on the way home.
Bought a Neato robotic vacuum online, but only because I saw my mom’s do it’s thing and I must have one.
Playing Rebecca Black “Friday” all day. Yeah homies.
Got home from the movie, read for a while, took a nap, just put together a turkey shepherd’s pie (layer of stuffing, layer of turkey and mixed veg, layer of mashed potatoes) that is in the oven now. Gonna sit down with my knitting, a kitty, and a couple of DVDs (or possibly two kitties and one DVD).
What a perfect day.
Playing around online and drinking Captain and Cokes. Well, “Admiral Nelson’s” and Cokes–it’s the cheap version. Avoiding going out to any stores very vigorously. Ordered pizza for dinner. Husband has been in his pajamas since he woke up. I would have done the same but I didn’t think of it.
I made up for the migraine I had yesterday. Turkey, sweet potatoes and acorn squash roasted, sausage and mushroom alfredo cooked, carcass ready to be turned into stock.
I’ll be going out to buy the carrots I forgot for the stock, around 2 am, when I know MalMart will be empty of pretty much any one but the vendors.
After that I’m putting a spray of Christmas-y glitter flowers on my car’s antenna. I got into that a few years ago, just to be odd. The bonus is that it makes my teeny car easier to find and fewer people hit me when they blindly pull into my parking spot. I’m thinking I should keep it decorated year-round!
I’m on disability and live in a hotel, so there was no Thanksgiving dinner or leftovers. Today was just another Friday to get through. Earlier there was sawing & hammering in the room above me and later I could hear the helicopters circling because of a protest near Union Square.
The holidays don’t mean what they use to for me, now it’s just another day(s) to muddle through.
I ended up painting, because my in-laws said they’d come over and help. Unfortunately, we ran out of paint and I had to venture out to Lowes to get some more, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Traffic was the worst part, because Lowes is in a big shopping area near Costco, Walmart, and Target. Lowes itself wasn’t too crowded; the power tools area was jammed full of carts, but I just walked into the store, got my paint, went to the self-checkout (no line!) and I was done.
And now my living room and dining room have pretty white trim, and I can tape off the trim on Sunday so I can paint the walls. Hooray!
My helper and I worked for about five hours stripping wallpaper and prepping walls for paint in an empty house for sale. I really didn’t want to be there, though.
Then I went home and took a wee nap, then went to the movies with a couple of friends. (Jack and Jill - don’t bother, it was stupid.)
The only money I spent on Black Friday was for the movie ticket. I barely had anything to eat all day because I was still stuffed from turkey day. At about 9:30 pm I started craving pizza but resisted the urge to call for delivery.
I got up at 6:30 and went to Staples (closest to home) for an advertised desktop PC (for my son.) They were very busy, but not crazy busy, but of course, they were sold out. I then went to my second option, OfficeMax, which was oddly underpopulated, and got a good deal. In and out in 10 minutes.
We had to drive three and a half hours away for a funeral.
I would never have braved the malls or stores anyway. Traffic wasn’t bad at least.
We were driving back from a few days spent in the Nantahala area of NC. Drove the Tail Of The Dragon(Rt 129 at Deal’s Gap) for the fun of it, since we’d come over on the Cherohala Skyway, and because Mrsaje loves all things motorcycle.
Gorgeous day
I had to work.
