I found a lost puppy yesterday and turned it into the local humane society. If the owner doesn’t claim her within a few days we’re going to call back and keep her. I didn’t get any pics while she was at the house here, but the animal shelter that she ended up at mentioned that she was a Terrier breed. She doesn’t look like any of the terrier breeds that I found on google.
The closest match I guess is the “Lakeland Terrier”, except that in the pictures it looks like Lakelands are fluffy and have curly hair. The puppy I found has almost the exact same body shape and size, but has shorter, straight hair.
Puppy fur patterns and growth are often different from adult fur patterns and growth. My mother recently got a shi tzu puppy, 4 months old. To look at her when she came to live with her you’d never guess she was a shi tzu. Her fur was short and kind of curly, and adult shi tzu usually have long, straight fur.
Maybe your puppy just looks like a Lakeland Terrier puppy, rather than a Lakeland Terrier adult?
Okay, the frames setup wouldn’t let me get a direct url, but if you go here and click on the “Photo Gallery” button in the navigation frame, there are pics of very young and young Lakeland Terrier puppies. Look familiar or not?
Well the puppies look even more different from her than the adult pics of Lakeland Terriers. The puppies look almost nothing at all like the one I found. She has the “whiskers” like a Scotty dog does at the tip of her snout that make her face seem shaped kind of like a bowling pin with the fat end out. Her hair is very short and and completely straight, not “fluffy” at all. She has a much longer snout than the Lakeland Terrier puppies in those pics.
The Humane Society definitely called her a “Terrier” though.
