What classes are you taking next semester? (Spring 2008)

Just read the finals thread and it seems things are winding down for the year. Having a month off is refreshing, but I am looking forward to my next round of courses.
So what courses are you taking, and are you excited/worried/indifferent about them?

Here is my class list:
Calculus - I like math, but I have not done any calculus since high school (1999). I am a unsure if I will remember all the concepts and formulas, but I grasp mathematics quickly. Worst case, I may fall behind for a month, but I will quickly get back into the groove of things.
Art History - My sister recommended an art history course to compliment my architecture major, and I agree! I think this will be a fun class. I only dread the inevitable papers I will have to write. I got off easy this past semester with only writing two significant papers.
Intro to Environmental Design - Building models of imaginary buildings and landscapes. I am excited about this class because it is my first real architecture course. I will be spending endless nights in the studio working on projects, cursing my “stupid fingers” and getting high off glue fumes. Woot!*
Social Factors - An Environmental Design Major core class. I have no idea what this class will be about. The course catalog couldn’t be more vague. “Critically evaluates designed environments.” Could be a doldrum inducer, but no doubt will be important to my education.

*must add “woot” to my spell checkers…

I love art history courses! I actually picked art history as my backup major when I transferred and sort of wish I had just done that. I have to have a few for my major now (interdisciplinary Classics major) and really really loved them. If you have a fantastic memory, it’ll be easy for you. Some people really loathe slide tests, but I find them quite easy.

Next quarter I have:
Spectacle Entertainment in Ancient Rome
History of Ancient Greece: Classical Period
My senior seminar topic is Homeric Cinematography (Great, I just know I’m going to have to watch Troy.)

And I am taking two units in independent research. No idea on my topic yet, I guess I’ll think about it when I’m on the beach next week.

I’m taking:

Honors Contemporary Irish Lit, for which I’m doing an independent study component so it will count toward my women’s studies minor (mostly reading lots of extra female authors and writing an extra paper).

Senior Seminar: Courtly Literature: Not looking forward to this one at all. I like the professor, but I’m not all that into the time period. I’m much rather be taking the Post-modernism class instead, but I’ve been persuaded that having the senior seminar (which is not required) will be good for grad school. Also, same deal as above - doing independent study so it counts towards WS.

Women’s Studies (can you tell I’m trying to finish up my minor in my last semester?)

Major Poets: Donne, Dickinson and Gluck - this is the one I’m really looking forward to. I already have a huuuuuuuge crush on the professor.

Some BS one-credit Intro to Computers course that I should have taken as a freshman. I did take a BS intro to computers course at the school I got my AA from, but it transfered as an education course instead of a computer course :dubious: so I’m having to retake it. Grrr.

I’m kind of freaking out about next semester: it’s my last one and I feel like it’s my last chance to take EVERYTHING.

So here’s what I’m planning.

Evolutionary Genetics (my favorite part of biology. Whee).
Independent Study to finish up my thesis.
An advanced creative nonfiction writing class.
A seminar on ‘Environmental Justice’ (doesn’t that sound so cool?)

I’m also signed up to take Organic Chemistry because if I do take it, I’ll have enough credits to get a BS in Biology instead of the BA I’ll get otherwise. So I know I should take it … but I don’t want to.

Music composition major, last semester. This doesn’t look like much, but it’s going to be a bitch, I’m sure. I’m going to need a lot of self-motivation (maybe I’ll get some for Christmas).

Performance - one unit that includes all lessons (flute, piano, composition), ensembles (wind ensemble, flute ensemble, woodwind trio), etc.

Recital - in April, 1 hour, half my compositions and half my playing other people’s music.

Honors - I’m doing my thesis on three of these guys, comparing their religious music. I’ve been working on it for a semester already. My oral examination will probably be about a week before my recital, if not closer to it.

Music seminar - we’re going to learn about Bach.

So that’s only one actual class, but truckloads of research, writing, and practicing.

Humanties 2 - piece of cake.

Physics 1 w/ lab -

Organic Chem 1 w/ lab -

Should be…interesting.

I am enrolled for my first semester of a Ph.D. program and my classes are:

  1. Performance Consulting and Causal Analysis
  2. Workforce Development
  3. Leadership Development

What am I doing to myself and why oh why am I going through with it?

Next semester I’m taking

Export/Import Management (require)
and
Conflict Resolution in the Workplace (elective) (I’m very disappointed at the poor selection of electives available to me this spring. I have almost no interest in taking this class, but it’s the ONLY elective on my flowsheet that’s being offered in the evening.)

And that’ll be it - I’m graduating in May. Now I need to decide on whether or not to go to Grad School. I’d like to, but I don’t know if my marriage can take it.

Computation theory, machine learning theory, and something else (likely a statistics course on financial forecasting).

For my final semester of school ever (and I mean it):

Film Theory
Victorian Internationalisms

Remote Sensing of Natural Resources
Advanced GIS
Thematic Mapping
Astronomy

I’m not 100% sure yet, but I think it’ll be:

Single and Multivariable Integral Calculus
Design Graphics
Statics
A computing course that’s mandatory… I forget the name.

I may or may not take Ordinary Differential Equations, I’ll have to see how things work out scheduling-wise.

Ethics
National Security Law
Evidence
Civil Trial Advocacy

Should be a fun semester, actually - Civil Trial Advocacy is just a dozen students running through mock trials, and I’m looking forward to the chance to kick some ass. Or get my ass kicked, whichever. And the prof for National Security Law is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had - the class is gonna be a hoot.

I love being a law student, I really do.

Compilers
Computer Networks
Distributed Systems
Environmental Economics
International Finance

It should be a refreshing change from the soul-crushing workload I suffered under this term.

Winter Quarter:

Senior Seminar (for International and Area Studies Major)- No clue what the topic will be yet. Probably languages of the world and every area except the one that I chose to study as per usual.

Multimedia and Sound- Learning more Photoshop and Flash. Required for my Quantitative Reasoning credit, whatever that is.

Chemistry and Society- I mistook Hinduism for Budhism

I’m finishing up a master’s in pubic health, studying molecular epidemiology. I tend to shop a lot, so nothing’s locked in, but:

A. Either Introduction to Sociomedical Sciences, or Introduction to Health Economics. (Both satisfy the same core requirement; I’m more interested in Health Econ, but taking SMS lets me fully prepared for the new CPH exam that’s being introduced next year, should I decide to take it.)

B. Either Case Studies in Risk Assessment for Environmental Policy, or Genetics and the Environment II (either fulfills my final departmental requirement)

C. Environmental Health Policy, for which I do not have the prerequisite, but I’ll see if the prof lets me take it anyway, and if not, I’ll take both options from B.

I’ve always loved course planning, where I sit down with an empty schedule grid and then fill it in with anything I might possibly take. Before the classes start, they’re all interesting and full of potential, and everything is open before me. I’m sorry to leave it behind, but I’ve promised my husband I won’t become a perpetual student

What’s this “semester” you speak of? My next classes are for Winter Quarter 2008.

Seminar in Ag Education: This is how I get credits for helping put on the annual FFA Field Day… again.

Animal Practicum/Lab Animals: I’m excited because the instructor is my field day adviser. Plus, I get to dip my toe back into animal science before I graduate.

Basketball and Tumbling: What?! I need to stay full-time to keep my aid! Sometimes you need two PE classes for that…

Social Relationships and Industrialization & Social Change: last few requirements for my major.

My husband is taking trial advocacy next semester as well. I’m looking forward to hearing about his exploits. Should be entertaining if the posters for the class were any indication (*300 *style, the professor’s [very nerdy] face photoshopped onto the body of Leonidas, and “Prepare for glory!” in a blood-splatter font. :D)

Fundamentals of Speech
computer concepts with business applications
business report writing
principals of accounting II
principles of Micro-Economics
Principles of Finance
And last but not least Swimming!!
For a total of 20 credits
and i am studying for the LSATs which i intend to take in Feb.
:frowning:

Calc 1
Acting 2
Spanish Intensive Reading (It’s all about Spanish literature and is the first class to count toward my minor. Woot.)
Stoopid First Year Seminar part deux
