When I was putting away my laundry the other day, I noticed my shirts tend to favor the red family (red, pink, orange, purple) - even those with patterns. There are some blues and greens that I deliberately bought because I know I usually prefer reds. But there are absolutely no yellows in there.
Do you opt for any particular color/color family, or do you have other criteria when choosing clothes?
Yeah, I know, not particularly profound, but idle chit-chat is all part of isolation stuff, right?
When my clothes are strewn in a heap and I take off my glasses to see how the colors blur together, I behold a symphony of the range from blue to red, mostly centered around violet–purple–magenta. With some green on the side, all against the neutral background of black, a lot of black.
I arranged my closet in the order of the spectrum. Black, white, and gray off to one side. Then magenta–purple–violet–indigo–blue–teal–green (skipping over yellow and orange altogether), red/pink.
Yes, I know magenta and purple aren’t spectral colors, but I gotta have purple, it’s my favorite color, so I place it first before violet.
I tend towards black, blue, and then reds or even orange when I’m feeling punchy. It’s interesting, as in my teens I was much more into falls like browns, forest greens, and maroons.
My palette is primarily greys, black, and dark green, with some deep browns.
Never was very fond of Navy blue, probably because my father favored it. He had pronounced blue eyes, whereas mine are slate grey.
Not very many bright colors. I have a tee shirt advertising a very cool bicycle shop in Southwest Harbor, Maine, but I don’t wear it often because it’s chartreuse.
Apparently, part of my “I’m in my 60s and don’t have to give a shit” attitude is that I’m done worrying about stuff like “Does this mauve t-shirt and orange hawaiian shirt go with these faded blue jeans?”
I pared down to my favorite t-shirts, which were all black. Figured, okay, those go with my comfiest black jeans. I throw one of my black ‘n’ white flannel shirts over that, and head out.
Point is, I don’t have to think about it. I save the ten minutes I used to spend holding shirts up to pants, wondering if my mauve vs orange is going to bother anyone.
(Oh, if I’m feeling wild, or I’m going to stop by a bar and watch a Badger football game, I wear a red buffalo check flannel shirt. Which I found at a Goodwill, like all my clothes.)
Now, here’s a weird thing: I still love clothes shopping, but now it’s biking to a small town and checking their St. Vinnie’s for plaid shirts and black Levi’s. And a big part of going to a music fest or a brewpub or a cool shop is finding the perfect black tee.
Mostly blue, green and purple and mostly in strong colors because I hate pastels. I do have one or two shirts in deep coral, though. I dislike red, pink, yellow and orange so they aren’t in my wardrobe except for a souvenir tee-shirt from OdySea Aquarium.
Given the easy option I prefer black, but otherwise whatever is cheap and available. (My shirts come in multi-packs, like socks.) Sometimes that means bright florescent colors (including pink) but no big deal.

Blues really bring out my eyes so lots blue along with black, purple, brown and white. Some green and very little red. I do also really like pink and peach and will get it if I can.
For many years, my husband gravitated to black for all of his t-shirts. Gradually, I got him into charcoal, heather gray, burgundy, forest green, and navy. He’s even bought himself some in lighter blues and a couple in red. No pastels, but at least it’s not all black.

I wear shirts of any color, since I like a little variety. Blue, green, red, orange. I even have a couple of yellow South Park Tegridy Farms t-shirts. I usually wear blue or charcoal grey pants.
