Picked up XCOM 2 with all DLC cheap on PS4. Due to a somewhat unorthodox play style, I’m not finding any use for either my psy soldier or my SPARK as I took so long to build the psy chamber and run the mission, respectively. Plus, I started Alien Hunters way too early and didn’t research for the Shadow Chamber for several in-game months. So now I’ve got a squad of colonels outfitted with overpowered weapons and armor and haven’t even done the story missions after the Blacksite.
I’m currently playing Subnautica. I played it a lot a year ago, but then dropped it when it had some issues and still needed some work. As I’m waiting for updates and DLCs for Total Warhammer and have kind of stopped playing 7 Days to Die I’ve picked it back up and am enjoying it (they added a lot of new stuff, but still have some issues with the game engine lagging and dropping frame rate very low).
Yeah, I quit Subnautica due to the crashes: some structure I built made the engine say, “Oh hell no,” and every time I approached the structure, frame rate would drop to like 0.2 fps, before the game crashed.
The game has a lot of potential if they can optimize it and put in some more end game stuff. But the whole concept of surviving on a water world, exploring undersea wrecks and abandoned bases, fighting off alien sea creatures and even exploring an alien civilizations ruins and still working death machines (as well as the whole base building, vehicle building, and mechanized dive suits) is just really cool, IMHO. I have definitely gotten my money’s worth out of it, if nothing else.
Civ VI, mostly, but boy is it getting annoying having people who’ve declared war on me twice call me a warmongerer…
I was playing Elder Scrolls Online, but everything I saw kept making me want to play Skyrim some more, so now I’m also playing me some Skyrim instead.
And when I just want to blow some shit up, I’m playing Borderlands 2.
Been playing the Ghost Recon: Wildlands beta and found it very underwhelming. **Astroneer **and **Darkest Dungeon **have been taking up the rest of my time.
**Renowned Explorers: International Society **and Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander will be next.
Waiting for The Long Journey Home and Rainworld.
My impression of GR:W was that it was as though Just Cause and Far Cry had a baby – but someone immediately stole that baby and raised it in a sterile environment somewhere so it would share its parents DNA but none of their personality.
Pretty much.
Huge open-world map with a fast-travel system and no compelling reason to actually travel around the map on foot (or vehicle). There’s nothing to do in the map apart from the widely spaced ‘missions’ which aren’t really that compelling from a story point of view.
Yeah, I had to boot this up again last night. They’ve changed a lot already, and I’ve barely left the shallows/kelp forest/grassy dunes. The added exploration on the Aurora alone was enough to surprise me.
And those beacons. Come visit lifepod 4, there’s no life signals nearby. Until you look down and see a reaper charging up at you. Someone wrote an article saying Subnautica is closer to a horror game than survival. Reaper attacks (and knowing there are even bigger things out there) definitely can scare the daylights out of me.
Just started World of Warships. Fun stuff but I wonder how long the charm/interest will last. Not altogether sure why I’m tending to get my butt kicked in Random play as often as I do. Maybe I’m charging in too hard with my cruiser? I just got a battleship (South Carolina) and find the time delays in loading to be somewhat disconcerting. Seems like I could better use the BB’s ability to engage targets at great distances should be better used, but I’m finding it difficult to hit targets until they’re within 4 km range, at which time they’re in range too and frequently in greater numbers
The Aurora exploration and getting the prawn suit alone was worth coming back for, IMHO. There are definitely still some optimization issues where frame rate just drops to zero and the game freezes or lags horribly. But it’s still just a blast to play, to explore, find fragments and build tech, build a base (and I LOVE the giant submarine, especially when you get the prawn suit and can put it inside to go out and explore with…or even the sea moth is cool in that configuration). I just hope that they continue to work on it, to improve it and to add new stuff to it.
I have Just Cause 2 with mods for that. The OSV vehicle pack contains a virtually indestructible buggy which fires explosive rounds and can drive underwater. This mod also makes Rico’s standard SMG(?) rounds explosive.
I really should get back to Borderlands one day. I’ve only finished the first and that was before the implementation of achievements.
The DLC for Resident Evil 7, and I finally gave in and started playing Skyrim here and there. As for the latter, it fails for me on the same level all the Elder Scrolls have…I end up with 34 pending quests (half of which are reporting back to the guy who sent me on said quest) and I have no clue what I was doing or why I should care about it. Especially since I don’t play every day. Had the same issue with the latest Fallout, but not quite as badly since the settings resonate a little more for me.
I gave up on Skyrim because I hate asdw movement.
Yeah, playing games with 19 keyboard bindings isn’t generally my cup of tea either. I do have a steam controller, though, so I might see if anyone has a good setup for Skyrim.
I must say, though, the game is quite pretty, and I find wandering around the snowy mountaintops (in my hide swimsuit ) very relaxing.
Stardew Valley here as well. I’ve been systematically marrying & then divorcing all the eligible villagers in town, and using the the witch’s hut to erase their memories so I can get to know them all over again. At the Stardew Valley Fair, the fortune teller noticed I was leaving a trail of heartbreak and asked me point blank if I was just screwing around with people.
Skyrim supports gamepads too.
Seven hours of straight Subnautica later, I have my Cyclops and I’m building a base in the blood kelp zone. My aquarium is…six stories tall?
At least I broke the DOTA/Skyrim cycle I’ve been on lately.
IO’m playing World of Warcraft and running my 4th character up to 110.
I also play Heroes of the Storm and Planetside 2. I don’t play Lord of the Rings Online as much as I used to, but it’s still got a start icon.
Do you use any mods?
