I noticed in a thread with a spoiler that when you highlight a happy smilie it produces an unhappy smilie. Maybe you all have noticed it long before and and are thinking “so what?” Be that as it may, I thought it was a kind of cool observation.
So… I’ve opened this thread to spread the knowledge that highlighted smilies produce an interesting appearance. Also, what do the various highlighted smilies remind you of?
(In order to provide an easy reference I’ll insert all the smilies in this post. I hope the mods don’t mind, I know they don’t like us to go crazy on the smilies, but I don’t think this will be too many).
um, I don’t get this.
I am not able to highlight smilies at all.
Not even if I “select all”.
Is this a PC thing or does it have something to do with my browser?
I think every browser on every platform handles this differently. Safari on Jaguar doesn’t do anything to the smilies. Who knew? Some browsers will invert the smiley colors and make me look weird. Don’t sweat it, BNB.
Hmmm… This is more interesting than I thought! I didn’t realize different browsers handled smilies differently. In fact, now that I highlight the smilies in the your reply section instead of on the screen I see different effects. And when I pass my cursor over certain smilies in the box while the smilie is highlighted it changes.
The happy smilie goes from sad to diabolical.
The sad one goes from kind of wierd (like a superhero’s mask) to really sad.
The big grin smilie goes from slightly embarrassed looking to looking like he’s taking a big dump.
The angry smilie goes from really* angry to a sort of childish angry and disappointed.
Sunglasses starts out basically the same but obscured and then changes to really angry or maybe classic alien look.
For a minute there, I was going to call you crazy, penny dreadful, but then I saw it–it does look like one of those magic mushrooms. (Think of the white as the stem and the underside of the top section, and then, obviously, the green as the top if you don’t see it). Once you think of it as a mushroom, it actually looks really well drawn, too. Good eye!
