My life is in my backpack:

Diaper and wipes
Crayons
Little toys (mostly McD’s Happy Meal type)
Writing notebooks

Favorite pens that I hide from the kids
Mints

A few small press 'zines
Pictures (kids, outings, conventions)
Hand lotion
Matches (don’t smoke, but friends do)
Checkbook
Hairclip
Old grocery lists that I should throw away
Coupons
Calculator
Stamps
Receipts I can toss out but keep forgetting to
A ring with a little coffin on it
A watch that needs a fresh battery

Let’s see… ::reaching into pockets::

Lab coat:
Right pocket… 35 cents and the electronic thingy that lets me into the lab. Keys when I leave the office.
Left pocket… a $5 bill, a business card, a post-it with an email addy on it, a kleenex, and a receipt from lunch yesterday.
Top pocket… pencil and Uniball[sup]tm[/sup] Onyx blue pen.

Pants pockets… nothing.

Backpack… yeesh.
Back compartment… personal stuff. Wallet (no money in there, just credit cards, stray receipts, a bucket full of pennies, license, and two work IDs), notebook for class, textbook, returned homework assignments, datebook, lip balm, checkbook, three pens, some bills I’m going to pay during lunch, some makeup just in case, and a tactical baton in a nice sheath.
Middle compartment… office stuff for office #1. Budget sheets, mailing lists, mail to be sent out, a few petty cash thingys that need to be processed, a PR copy job I need to run over to publications.

OK, lessee here. . .

Left front pocket: American Tourister leather trifold containing $32, a couple of lottery tickets, cards, and so much other useless krep it’s not funny. Remember the episode of “Seinfeld” where Jerry tells George his wallet is a filing cabinet? That’s mine. If I put it in my back pocket I’d get scoliosis.

Right front: 78 cents in change, mini Swiss Army knife on keychain with house and garage keys, keychain with keys to my station wagon, and my pocketwatch.

Left rear: Ace hard rubber comb.

Right rear: Handkerchief (white cotton, extra large).

This morning I forgot to put on the Masonic ring my late wife gave me when we got engaged, and I feel naked without it.

Zap!

Another who travels light:

Right front pocket - keys (car, apartment, mailbox)
Left back pocket - black alligator-skin wallet (no cash, one credit card, one ATM card, driver’s license, library cards, health insurance card)
Shirt pocket - stainless steel Parker fountain pen that I’ve had for 20 years.

I carry just about everything I need in my carry all/purse/bag so almost nothing ever goes into my jacket or pants pockets except paper money.

There’s change in the zipper pocket as well as a refill for each of my fountain pens. My Sharp organizer sits in the outer pocket with a small notepad. The main pocket carries my wallet, medication, cigarettes, phone, and gum. The hidden pocket in the back carries my chequebook, business cards, receipts, and a comb. There’s 3 fountain pens (blue, red, and black) and my Staedtler multi pen/pencil. Clipped to the side is an emergency barrier device (in case I need to perform C.P.R.)

There’s a small multi tool on my keychain as well as my Mag-lite Solitaire, I have larger versions of each that I don’t always carry with me.

Pants Pocket - chapstick (ALWAYS carry chapstick).
