I like it, though I do think there could be some improvements. I like the way Creegan has been played, acting sometimes like the lights don’t quite come on completely upstairs. I find Cyril fascinating, and I hope they aren’t getting rid of him already. Creegan’s partner… eh. She’s okay. The character isn’t well developed, and there is definitely going to be a forbidden lust thing going on. The writers could do so much more to make her interesting and real.
I am afraid, however, that the show will quickly run its course. It doesn’t seem like they are saving anything for the next season - they want to do it all in the first few episodes.
I like it so far. I, like you, think it could be improved but most new shows can. Are they going to have a relationship between Creegan and his partner? That would be sooo wrong but it looks like they might be heading that way.
[I think the show’s still finding its legs. I hope that several years down the line, we’ll look at repeats (or DVDs) of this season and smile indulgently at how wobbly it is. I want to love it, but it hasn’t quite clicked for me. Still, there’s enough promise to keep me watching, which is way more than most shows manage.
The quotas for (a) partner (especially female partner) in peril, and (b) family in peril, have already been vastly exceeded. I hope the screenwriters realize this, and we never see those plot devices used again for the duration of the show.
For me, I want Kreegen to be more… well MORE. From what I understand the UK version has the Kreegen character very much uninhibited and clearly not one of us, so to speak. I want that in the US version. Occasionally acting out in odd ways is not doing it for me.
His condition is what should make him a better cop. Right now he reads as just a good cop who can sometimes think outside the box.
Now granted I’ve only seen 4 episodes so maybe I’m talking out my ass.
I much prefer the UK version. In fact, I had just borrowed the videotapes from the library a few months ago, before I heard they were remaking it, so the UK version was fresh in my mind when I watched the first episode. It was so similar…set, dialogue, pacing, camera angles…that at first I thought I WAS watching the British version, but only for a few seconds. The American Creegan just doesn’t have the strength of personality that the British actor had, and I just couldn’t watch his dead, lifeless acting. The UK version has an underlying sense of urgency and desperation that was lacking in what I saw of the American version.
