I’ve told this before, but…
Way back when, after graduating from college but before getting a real job, I worked a summer at Blondie’s Pizza in Berkeley, CA. The astonishingly cheap (and staggeringly wealthy) owner of the shop had long since given up on buying nametags for his rapidly-turning-over staff, so the manager handed me a nametag that had belonged to a long-ago employee, and instructed me to make a Dymo label to put over the name. I was allowed to use any name I wanted, so instead of putting my name, I put the tag’s name: “Nametag.”
Years later, I got my first internet access account (eWorld, how I miss thee!). When selecting my user name, my thoughts hearkened back to those halcyon days of pizza-slinging and grinding poverty. I’ve been using the same handle ever since.

As in ‘strong’ hold. Based off a short story I wrote about the last stronghold on a demon invaded land.
Also b/c it invokes the image in my mind of a person holding a swirling darkness in his hands.

Mine was the name of an Etruscan prince that, according to historians, ruled over Rome in its archaic phase. He was defeated by a coalition of Latin cities in the battle of Lake Regillus about four or five centuries before Christ; but his descendants remained in Rome and got a significant number of magistracies under the Republic.
The name is not really adequate for me, but it sounds nice.
