Double shot of Canadian Club whiskey with a glass of water on the side.
It’s my nickname… my friends gave it to me because I am incredibly blunt and, apparently, have no tact.
I dunno how it works either.
It’s a very cool Dr. Seuss picture. I can’t remember how I ran across it but I found it on a site with another picture called “Every Girl Should Own One” of a unicorn that sort of looks more like an enraged maypole. But you don’t have to take my word for it.
I picked up the word Bwana from some 1940’s movie and was using it at work. One of my friends called me BwanaBob.
Thankfully it didn’t stick but it has become useful in online situations.
Another friend took a photo of some shop in DisneyWorld/Universal/one of the myriad of Florida tourist attractions that was called “Bwana Bob’s”.
They owe me:D
mine is after a nuclear medicine clinical procedure:
Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography brain
It lets folks see what’s going on inside the old cranium.
JFK’s inaugural speech, “Ask not what your country can do for you…” The extra t comes from my surname.
I don’t really think my user name actually has a meaning, but it’s based on my ungodly liking for toast.
Sleepwalker. I’m often accused of wandering around in a dreamlike state.
Oh geez, I feel so geeky. Deep breath. I LOVE my geekiness. I am one with my geekiness!
My name is a somewhat minor character from the greatest science fiction series of all time, Dune.
I got mine from the Simpsons.
I am male.
Literally translated from Latin, it means “Do what you are doing.” It’s another way of saying “concentrate.”
Yes, actually, it is taken.
What does it mean? It means that I am a God(dess) and you should fall to your knees and worship me, puny mortals, or I will mess up your credit!
Truthfully, it just means I am a William Gibson fan and liked the name, and it wasn’t taken when I signed up. I’m actually pretty humble.
I collect these “what does your username mean” threads. I have 15 of them that I’ve netted since August of 2000. All of them multipage and safely put away in storage. One thread every 10 weeks (on average).
Unfortunately my collection has gotten so large, that bringing it out for show-and-tell offends people. I guess it’s a bit like collecting, say, large and revolting spiders. One or two are interesting, but 15 of them are overwhelming.
Not that I’m attributing the adjective “revolting” to these username threads. On the contrary. I wouldn’t collect them if I didn’t find them fascinating.
Well, in all fairness, I seem to remember starting an identical thread when I was a newbie here as well. We were all newbies once. Some, more than others…
As for my username, all will be explained herein.
Barry
I guess my post came off as more sarcastic than I intended. I don’t have any problem with these threads, even if they pop up every 10 weeks or so.
I was only explaining that I used to post the links to all the previous threads. I no longer do that.
If I had the time and a place to put it, I’d create a database of the usernames and copy&paste the user’s explanation of the meaning and origin. Then provide a link to the database.
Old name: ThunderBug. It was the US code name for the devolpment of their version of the V2 rocket during WWII. I was watching the history channel and the name stuck in my head. However, since I’m not really a history buff, the name never quite felt right for me. So after a while, I finally changed it.
One of my favorite skits on Saturday Night Live involving Will Ferrell as a member of ELO and Christopher Walken as the producer. Ferrell is playing the cowbell hard (as heard in “Don’t Fear the Reaper”) much to the dismay of the band (who can’t keep a straight face with Ferrell dancing) and Walken keeps coming out and telling Ferrell to keep playing, he needs more cowbell.
Another favorite skit is “Jackie Rogers Jr. 100,000 dollar jackpot wad” but I thought that was a bit lengthy. Although “Chocolate Babies” or “Whitey Bird” could have worked too.
But I’m sticking with the current name.
“I’ve got a fever and the only cure is More Cowbell”.
I used to work in live theatre as a stage technician. There are holes in the floor offstage with electrical outlets for the stage lights, and one of them was missing its lid. We were preparing for a dance recital so I asked a member of my crew to put something over the hole so that the dancers wouldn’t break their ankles when they exited the stage in the dark. The crewmember, a friend of mine, covered it with a board and was using masking tape to write my name on the board (my name’s Dave). He only got the first 3 letters done before I walked over and asked what he was doing- he said he was labeling the “dav”. So my nickname became “dav”, and for years everyone who worked in that theatre called anything you used to cover a hole in the floor, a “dav”. Maybe they still do.
I just added the “01” for the helluvit.
I have a habit of flinging myself out of perfectly good flying aircraft and when I do I end up falling very fast.
Algernon, maybe you can post a link to the last thread, which has got links to all the others. Then anyone who is interested can easily get to those links.
If you keep this up for all new threads, you will create a nice daisy chain of threads.
