So, if you loaded up your person with every handheld/portable electronic gizmo, doo-dad, or whatsit, what would you be bogged down with? I’ll start:
[ul]
[li]60 GB iPod video[/li][li]LG VX3100 cell phone[/li][li]iPod 1GB shuffle[/li][li]Gameboy Advance SP[/li][li]1 GB Sandisk jumpdrive[/li][li]Olympus D-435 5.1 Megapixel camera (with 256MB xD card)[/li][li]Audiovox Thera PocketPC (it’s also technically a phone, but I only use it as a PDA. Has a 32 MB SD card because I lost the 1 GB card I bought for it.)[/li][li]Apollo pager (for work, come March 3rd, I will no longer have it.)[/li][li]Motorola Director II pager (for the fire department)[/li][li]HP Omnibook 1.13 GHz Celeron laptop[/li][li]Palm IIIc PDA (no, I don’t use it, but I did say ALL devices, not just active ones.)[/li][/ul]
I decided not to list my SiPix 2.1 megapixel camera, because it’s is in a few pieces, has no outer case, no LCD screen, and the battery cover has to be held in place (but it DOES work.) (Of course, by mentioning that I’m not listing it, I’m in essense listing it.)
I know someone out there has me beat, and beat by a mile, so let’s see it.
20 gig 4th gen iPod.
30 gig 5th gen iPod.
Sony DSC-T1 5 megapixel camera
Motorola E815 camera phone w./ Bluetooth
Garmin Forerunner GPS receiver
1 gig USB thumb drive
JVC miniDV camcorder
HP laptop computer
Mine are similar:
[ul]
[li]iRiver iFP-795 MP3 player (it’s not an iPod, but it’s got an incredible 40-ish hour battery life)[/li][li]LG VX8100 cell phone w/ 1GB miniSD card[/li][li]Sony PSP w/ 1GB MS Duo (with zero games – only use it to watch videos)[/li][li]1GB SanDisk SD Plus USB (nifty SD card that also works as a USB flash drive)[/li][li]256 MB Kingston flash drive (at least it’s better than a floppy disk…)[/li][li]64 MB Intelligent Stick flash drive (was one of the smallest and thinnest before the SanDisk cards came out)[/li][li]Canon PowerShot S80 camera w/ 2GB SD card[/li][li]Sony DSC-F717 camera with 1GB MS (gonna sell this soon, probably)[/li][li]Palm V PDA (a whole 2 megs of memory)[/li][li]Casio databank/calculator watch (dunno model)[/li][li]Casio WQV10D2 camera watch (from the pre-cameraphone era; useless now)[/li][li]Generic keychain WiFi hotspot finder[/li][li]HP Pavilion 2.8ghz Celeron laptop (Ugh… Celeron. Cheap though.)[/li][li]inova X5 LED flashlight.[/li][li]A random collection of crappy, tiny memory sticks and SD cards that came with the above devices[/li][li]4-outlet power strip. Probably the most useful device of all, as nothing would work without it :)[/li][/ul]
Still waiting for a good Windows Mobile smartphone so I can combine most of those things into one device
[ul]
[li]iPod Vido 60GB[/li][li]Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop [/li][li]Samsung 21.3" LCD monitor for my home PC[/li][li]80GB portable hard drive[/li][li]Palm Tungsten T5[/li][li]Nikon D70 digital SLR with SB-800 flash and 1GB MicroDrive[/li][li]Panasonic BL-C30A wireless network webcam (to check on my dogs from work)[/li][li]80GB portable hard drive[/li][li]Garmin Forerunner 301 (GPS with heartrate monitor)[/li][li]Princeton Tec Apex 3-watt LED headlamp[/li][li]Vonage IP phone[/li][li]TiVo[/li][li]Sirius satellite radio*[/li][li]TracFone cell phone (Motorola V170)[/li][/ul]
*Actually it was stolen 2 days ago, but I’ll buy a new one as soon as I get around to it.
[ol]
[li]Verizon LG-VX5200 Mobile Phone with Jabra Earwave Headset[/li][li]Canon PowerShot A520 3.2MP Digital Camera with 512MB SD Card[/li][li]Creative Zen Touch 20 GB MP3 Player[/ol][/li]
All of which has been bought in the past year and excepting an iRiver Mobile FM Transmitter for my car and a possible laptop, all I really have use for.
Motorola Razr
iMate Pocket PC
IRiver 20 Gig mp3 player (soon to be replaced by a Zen Vision)
Sony PSP
HP Pavilion Laptop
Canon 300D Camera (and 3 1 Gig CF cards, a 70-300mm telephoto and 18-55mm lens)
Jabra vibrating bluetooth headset (which I would have listed with my cellphone, except I use it with my computer and PDA as well)
Bluetooth keyboard, mouse and fingerprint reader (because, well, I just had to have the fingerprint reader that I never, ever use because it doesn’t work in Firefox)
And that’s all I can think of at the moment.
And yes, I have actually left the house on more than one occasion bearing all of them.
Well, yes and no. As I said, the Thera is a PDA/phone, and I only use the PDA, the phone part doesn’t have service, so I couldn’t even use it if I wanted to. And my work pager NEVER goes off. So really, it’s more like two comminucation devices. And I should add that I have never “gone out” with all my devices. On a typical work day I just have my work pager and PDA. If I’m going just out to the store or to hang out someplace, I’ll take my cellphone and FD pager. If I think hilarity might ensue, I’ll also grab the camera. If it’s a long car ride, throw in both iPods (the big one for the rude, small one for when I get there.) If it’s someplace I think I mgiht need some personal files, bring the jumpdrive, if I think I might need a bit more than just a few files, grab the laptop. The gameboy only comes if I know I’ll be waiting around somwhere.
So the closest I could have to carrying everything would be if I was driving to the airport or something to take a trip that I think I would need my laptopn. Then I would have the phone, PDA, camera, gameboy, both iPods, jumpdrive, and laptop.
This list isnt too terribly long, but was a bit of a surprise to me.
Creative Zen Xtra 30 GB
Fugifilm Finepix A345
Sony VAIO Fs660/W
Gameboy Color
Original Gameboy
254mb USB drive
Motorola E815 Camera phone W/ Bluetooth and Mp3 player
Brookstone Speaker set
HP 6540 Printer
FM transmitter
TI-83 graphing calculator
What can I say? Im in college. (Also, all but the original gameboy I use daily)
Not much compared to a few of the other lists, but ah loves mah gizmos! :)[ul][li]30 GB video iPod[/li][li]Samsung SCH-a670 cell phone[/li][li]one 128 MB Dell USB drive[/li][li]two 512 MB SanDisk USB drives[/li][li]Palm Tungsten T3 PDA[/li][li]Kodak 2.0 megapixel digital camera (outdated, but still works beautifully and is all I need)[/li][li]Sony DVDirect DVD recorder (yep, it’s portable)[/li][li]Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse[/li]Dell Latitude D810 laptop (might not count because it’s not really mine; it’s my work computer) [/ul]
palmOne Tungsten|T5 and about half a dozen SD cards in various sizes for various purposes
Wireless foldable keyboard for above
WiFi card for above
Generic MP3 player – bought it 'cos it was cheap, took SD cards for expansion, and had a built-in voice recorder and FM radio with the ability to record from said radio; plus it doubles as a memory key. (Unit is self-contained; no cords, which is why I wanted it)
Motorola v551 cell phone (mentioned only because I also play a few games on it 'n stuff This and the above two gadgets are always with me.
Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop (old but still functional; I’m working on getting a new unit though)
Wireless-G home network
Imaging:
Kodak DX6490 4.0mp digital camera with 10x optical zoom
I bought the second to replace the first but I haven’t really gotten round to setting it up yet. I liked these 'cos the key display changes depending on the device selected.
Off the top of my head anyway. I’m not going to bother mentioning my main PC; I’m not sure I could classify it as a gadget.
A cell phone and a digital camera but the coolest thing of all is the electronic guitar tuner. I just pick a string and the needle swings straight up if it’s in tune or to the left or right if it needs tightning or loosening. Heh, way cool.
I refuse to believe that any student, no matter how poor, doesn’t have a cell phone. Although, I suppose it may be that they are so ubiquitous that they escape notice.
Palm Tungsten E2 PDA
Motorola V120E cell phone (3 years old, no camera or nothin)
512m Imation thumb drive
IBM Thinkpad laptop
Fujifilm digital camera (I forget the model)
Linksys wireless router
Ipod Nano
Phew - until I started listing them, I didn’t think I had enough toys and they’d throw me out of the geek patrol, until I remembered the iPod!
And yeah, I have been known to move about encumbered by all of these (well, with the exception of the wireless router, that pretty much stays at home).
Gameboy Micro (though I carry it rarely).
HP 15C calculator.
PowerBook.
Cell phone.
iAudio MP3 player.
256MB Samsung thumb drive (received as an interview prize in lieu of a job).
That’s it. Really for a rivetheaded EE major I don’t have much electronic stuff. I shoot film when I take pictures. I use a Moleskine journal instead of a PDA. Hell, I don’t even have an electronic watch; I have an automatic. Digitals feel inelegant and quartz is fake.
I don’t have time, and the SDMB doesn’t have the space to list all the gadgets I have but don’t use.
In my Bus Commuter bag I have:
my trusy G4 iBook + A/C
3G 10gb iPod
512kb Shuffle
Garmin ique3600()
HTC Faraday/Cingular 2125 (This is an AWESOME smartphone)()
Leatherman Wave (I can’t believe non of you have a multi-tool)
3 sets of headphones
Bluetooth dongle
802.11b dongle (this one allows for completely silent packet sniffing using KisMAC, unlike the Airport Extreme)
Gameboy SP
Since you’re including them, a Nikon 5400 5mp camera and a Sony MiniDV, tho I don’t carry them around much.
