What fictional characters have you fallen most in love with?

Oh, I need that! And the rest of the books–I’ve read most of them but only own three so far.

The ship is leaving San Diego at the end of November. I don’t know where it’s going afterwards.

I’m utterly in love with her, I want to be her best friend. I think I’m standing in a very long line of people tho’. (As an aside, is there anyone who’s read the series, enjoyed it, but not been keen on Death? Because I’ve met no one like that.)

Another vote for Captain Jack Sparrow. Jonny Depp makes me silly, and his Jack Sparrow makes me drool. It’s sorta embarrassing.

Miss Jane Marple

Messieur Hercule Poirot

“The Bride” from the **Kill Bill ** movies. Yes, please.

Dr. Crusher from Next Gen, as well. What can I say, I like redheads

The genius girl who never slept and wore overalls all the time from Real Genius. Mmm…overalls.

Velma seems like she’d be fun. I’ll put another vote in, there. Another one for Death, too, although I don’t think I could ever imagine anything but talking to the lass, which seems like it’d be amusing in itself.

Willow Rosenburg, possibly for similar reasons as The Bride.

I don’t know her name, but the actress who played opposite Hugh Grant in Love Actually was purty.

Thora Birch’s character in American Beauty. Throw in her psychotic boyfriend for bonus points, there. Thora Birch’s character from Ghost World, Enid, as well, mostly for the glasses (not so much for the life-ruining bit she did on Steve Buscemi’s character).

Christina Ricci in everything she’s been in since The Opposite of Sex, as well. She and Thora Birch should do (another?) movie together, I think, and it should include mud-wrestling, at some point. You know, for the same deep and meaningful reasons that inspired Winona Ryder to kiss her redheaded co-star in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Mina Harker in **The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen ** (the comic book series, not the Travesty of Extraordinary Magnitude…er…the movie of the same name).

brain shorts out
bamf

Hey Holly was much cuter

Sorry, couldn’t resist   I’ll now be kicked out of SDMB for good

You’re ashamed of your crush on Ami-chan? You don’t deserve her, worm!

Mind you, if we’re talking Sailor Moon characters, Hotaru - a.k.a. Sailor Saturn is the one I feel this urge to comfort and aid. What can I say, women wielding the power of Little Boy or Fat Man and a glaive make me melt.

There’s a problem with weird?
Damned computer just ate my list. Lemme try again.

From anime: (This is going to be the biggest section, I suspect. I can’t imagine why…)

[ul]
[li]Ataka Min from Gasaraki. Hmm… Redheaded. Check. Smart. Check. BDU’s. Check. (What? Doesn’t every red-blooded American male think BDU’s are the most sexy thing a woman could wear? So I’ve got a slight uniform fetish…) But mostly, she’s stubborn, loyal, and willing to throw out rules when she perceives a need. [/li][li]Kurata Misako from Kodomo no Omocha Hmm… how to describe Mama… Award winning author of “My Life with the Pimp”? True, but makes her sound, either like a ball-busting misanthrope, or a colorless and humorless professorial type. Not Mama. Insane but wise? Well, aside from the fact that I don’t think she’s actually insane, just putting up a good front, that works. But part of it is simply she’s the first contemporary female Japanese character I’ve seen who is working to change gender roles, rather than accepting them. Stubborn, smart woman. [/li][li]Washuu-chan from Tenchi Muyo Redheaded. Has her own SSTO spaceship. Insane and wise. Alas, there’s no faking here. I must be a glutton for punishment. But, still… [/li][li]Kanuka Clancy from Patlabor. Smart, beautiful, stubborn. (seeing a trend here?) And in uniform, too. <drooling>[/li][li]Fio from Porco Rosso Redheaded. Smart. Stubborn. Did I mention smart? Opinionated, too. Poised, in that no matter where she ends up she handles what happens. (Including getting herself made the prize of a duel, sorta…)[/li][/ul]

From comics:

[ul]
[li]Illyana Rasputin. From waaaay back in the 90’s. A little scary, but smart, stubborn and loyal. One reason I no longer read Marvel comics is because they retconned her out of existence.[/li][li]Death. More for her sense of humor and compassion than anything else. [/li][/ul]

From TV:

[ul]
[li]Ivonova from B5 Redheaded, in uniform, and smart and stubborn. And has Claudia Christian’s voice… <drooling>[/li][li]Piper from Charmed, but that’s almost completely a visual thing. Combined with liking Holly Marie Coombs’ voice. [/li][/ul]

From Literature:

[ul]
[li]Lady Elise Archer from Jane Lindskold’s Firekeeper books. Smart and stubborn. Almost makes one willing to believe in the idea of an aristocracy…[/li][li]Shannon Forakker from David Weber’s Honor Harrington books. A geek’s geek. In uniform, too. :D[/li][li]Verity MacKenzie from Connie Willis’ Doomsday Book and To Say Nothing of the Dog[/li][li]Elli Quinn from Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan books [/li][li]Cimmorene from Patricia Wrede’s Enchanted Forest books[/li][/ul]

After all, why bother being exclusive when they’re fictional anyways?

Another vote for Marcus Didius.

Also another vote for Rhett Butler (book, haven’t actually seen the film).

Most twisted crush is Gul Dukat.

“Black Cloud”, i.e. the Mongolian guy out of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

I think I could go on a while, actually.

:: sorry I got to this thread late ::

I would go for the Heinlein women (Friday, Deety, Dora, etc)–strong, confident, and unashamed to be sexy–as mentioned upthread.

I also like Velma, Bailey Quarters, Mary Ann, and Veronica.

For sheer physical pleasure, Patty Melt and Ellie Dee for the old Cherry Poptart comic.

And from the Angloman universe, Poutinette, of course (the accent, you know).

Of course the first gal had to be Friday!

Other faves:

Mina : Extraordinary Gentlemen
Leeloo : 5th Element
Juliet : Romeo and Juliet
Angua

The fiery gal character from Hellboy
Kate Beckinsale’s character from Underworld
The robot gal from Jason X
The lady in red from Matrix
Michelle Pfeiffer from “Ladyhawke”
The Queen of the Damned

and lastly

The shapeshifter from X-Men… that should keep things interesting…

D.

Hooray, I’m not alone! I’ve replayed this game so many times, and I always keep him in my party even though he’s really not a powerhouse character.
Then again, I think the Master Chief from Halo looks pretty good in his armor - and since he never takes it off you have to imagine what he looks like without it. Mmmmm… (Do I qualify for DorkStorm yet?)

Others…
Spike from Buffy
Takeshi Kovacs from the Altered Carbon books.
The Jack character on Lost looks pretty boneable too.

These ladies should be familiar to most of you:

Xena
Agent Scully
Princess Jasmine
Susan Sto Helit

More obscure: Grace Nakimura from the Gabriel Knight computer games, although I realize I’d have nothing to offer her. ::sob::

Giggilo Joe from AI - I didn’t love the movie, but he was so great!

Fred and **George Weasely ** of Harry Potter fame (I like the book characters better than the movie versions) - and now they’re old enough to I dont’ have to feel dirty about it!

Dangit, how could I have forgotten Shannon Forakker? Absolute greatest line in that series: “Oops.”. Spoken right after she “accidentally” remotely activated the self-destructs on an enemy fleet. Fortunately, she’s sufficiently oblivious to people that she probably won’t notice I didn’t mention her at first.

And I can certainly see the appeal of Ivanova (not my type, but I can see the appeal), but how do you figure that she’s a redhead?

Seconded.

Michael York as Lucentio in The Taming Of The Shrew or as Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet .

Most of my others have been mentioned (Colin Firth as Darcy … YUM) but I will add Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightley in Emma .

John Blackthorne from Shogun (since 4th grade)

Aragorn from LOTR (since high school)

Destruction from Sandman

The mind of Leto Atreides II (not the worm body, of course) from Children of Dune– there is no braver character in literature IMO

Indiana Jones, baby

Well, someone just had to bring up Dune:

Paul Atreides - troubled, cute, all-powerful
Vladimir Harkonnen (before he became unhot via that unfortunate incident with Gaius Helen<sigh>) - there’s just something about beautiful evil.

Which leads me to (via an obscure connection that probably only otaku such as myself get):
Alucard (from Hellsing): vampire demon with a thing for helpless femmes…

And since we’re talking about vampires…:
Cassidy from Preacher: Why did Garth have to treat him like he did :frowning:
Lestat and Armand: ummm - thinly vielled homoeroticism between vampires? Yes please!

Anne Rice also provides:
The prince (the first one - I can’t remember if he had a name), and the Captain of the Guard from the Beauty Trilogy.

Ok, no more connections but:
Q has been mentioned a few times - let me by the first to fifth him.
Anything Johnny Depp has been (except maybe Edward Scissorhands - seems painful)
Kaji from Evangelion - oh you bad boy!

I should stop now - this could get me in trouble…

Wesley and/or Spike from Buffy/Angel
Nick in The Great Gatsby, both the book version and and Sam Waterston’s protrayal
Blaine and Steff from Pretty in Pink
Hubbell in The Way We Were

Me too! I adore John Fitzgerald Byers (one of the Lone Gunmen) from the X-files.

So many good characters have already been mentioned, but I didn’t see (might have missed her):

Susan Ivanova - Babylon 5

All these Babylon 5 fans, and nobody mentions Capt. Elizabeth Lockley?

The first time I ever saw a B5 episode, I was flipping channels and ran across a scene with her in it… at which point I totally forgot what show I had been looking for in the first place!

(It was the one where Martin Sheen guests as an alien who collects souls, in case anybody's curious.)
