What game(s) would you want modernized?

I’d like to see most games pre-2000 ported to the iPhone as apps.

Particularly all the SIM games. Particularly SimEarth.

I would love to see Mutant League Football resurrected. Just an update to the graphics, though - leave the gameplay alone!

Depends on what you mean by a modernized version of Nethack. There’s a reasonable argument to be made that Diablo/Diablo II and so on (including Torchlight) are such a thing. And there are modern versions of Nethack such as SLASH’EM or Falcon’s Eye, as well.

For me, I want an updated version of my favorite RPG of all time: Darklands.

Oh, and Lynn Bodoni, if you are dealing with an older version of Fallout, you might want to give the version from GOG a try. I’ll give it a shot now - I have not installed it yet on this win7 machine.

For a different take of modernizing a roguelike, try Dungeon Crawl. The tiles version, in particular, shows how you can keep the core gameplay elements, but also have an interface that’s lightyears beyond the Nethack days.

Downloaded, installed and played. I had one crash, but I blame that on the fact that I was also downloading Jagged Alliance 2 in the background, and the GOG.com installer interrupted FO while I was creating a character, causing me to tab back and forth between Explorer and FO. I have games released in the last year that have problems with that, so I don’t consider it a big problem.

I’m running 64-bit Windows 7 with 6GB of RAM and a GeForce 275 video card. I played through the intro and got to Shady Sands. Combat works, as does dialog. I’m not sure if you want to drop $5.99 on a game you already own, but the GOG.com version does seem to be stable.

An Alpha Centauri update would be nice, but I wouldn’t want (present-day) Firaxis to even tweak the gameplay. The Colonization remake had a bunch of changes I didn’t care for.

EVO would be fun, but it would need tweaking.

Oh man, Darklands. I STILL emulate Windows 98 just so I can play that.

It’s also available via GameTap, which I’ve shilled here several times.

Not to mention, all Commodore 64 games. Especially the noncommercial ones like *Torture the Smurfs. *

There was a re-release of the win95 collector edition of tie fighter. I picked it up a year ago. I had to install a patch and run the game after killing explorer in task manager but it runs just fine on win 7 64 bit.

I just wish it would be updated to modern graphics.

2nd Darklands, though I haven’t played it in forever.

I would love to see an updated SimEarth. That would be awesome. I would pay money for that, even.

There was a game called Fantasy Empires, and I was going to say that I would love to see an update to it, but I realized that the Total War games are essentially the same thing, only without the RPG angle, or the magic stuff. So there’s that.

But yeah, mostly SimEarth.
