I was reading a story about a new Jagged Alliance game that is basically a modernized HD remake of the old Jagged Alliance 2 game (the story is here on Gamespy if you are interested) and it got me thinking that it would be really cool if someone would do that for the original XCOM game…or any number of other games that I really enjoyed when I was younger and the PC gaming industry was just getting started.
So, what games would you like to see updated with a modern interface but essentially left unchanged? You don’t have to limit yourself to PC games…if you had a favorite console game that you’d love to see with a new, modern graphical interface then feel free to share.
I’m lucky enough that the game I most want to see be brought up to modern spec but without a bunch of changes to disrupt its perfect balance is getting exactly that in a few months: Defense of the Ancients.
Better graphics, a more immersive world with sandbox style mobility. Bigger music and better cut scenes/voice acting. New puzzles, more puzzles, maybe combine Myst and Riven into different levels of the same game. Could be an awesome Xbox Live Arcade game.
Mechwarrior MMO. I can’t believe it keeps getting cancelled. Everybody wants to be a badass building-sized robot death machine.
Not full mmorpg not only just mmo, but not too twitchy a good balance of strategy. Just some good old fashion head-popin, knee-shreadin, blowin shit up after work.
AutoAssault could have been good if they’d simplified their stats a bit. It was fun, but sometimes impossible to tell whether something was an upgrade or not.
Birthright: The Gorgon’s Alliance. A sub-par game in some key areas, yet intriguing. It’s a strategy game where you attempt to unite various realms through diplomacy and war, but it also has a first person RPG mode based on D&D where you take a party of adventurers into dungeons to get artifacts that can help you on the strategic map. War was a rather crude tactical affair, but it allowed you a mix of foot, mounted, and ranged units, as well as magic spells.
