Heh. I just watched a few clips of the Rankin-Bass “Return of the King”…I was listening to the pleasing voice of John Huston thinking “Oh well done…”
Then whoever did the voice for The Witch King started talking. Ouch.
It appears to have been a voice actor named John Stephenson, who did a ton of work for cartoons in the '60s and '70s, including Mr. Slate on The Flintstones.
A great show; it’s been rerun many times over the decades, and I’m sure I’ve seen every episode. There were some reunion movies made in the '90s that I haven’t seen since then. I assume they still exist somewhere.
I beleive the 13-episoder “Me and the Chimp” from 1972 never had the honour of syndication - an honour that’s more like a bras d’honneur.
I’ve never been able a way to find a way to see Flip, Flip Wilson’s show. I saw a few episodes long ago when it was rerun on some channel, but it’s not available to watch on Amazon and I can’t it anywhere lately. (The particular clip I was trying to find was mentioned in a 2014 post: Drink from this side of the cup, but I definitely remember FW doing it.)
Thought id be clever and find that Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp was unavailable, but nope. Apparently its on Amazon Prime.
There is No God.
That’s another one that I enjoyed as a kid, but when watching it as an adult, I found it to be excruciating. 75% of each episode simply consisted of watching chimpanzees in clothes walking around.
Agreed. My second thought on viewing last night was…“Man this looks very expensive and a hell of a lot of trouble for a saturday morning tv show”
Isn’t Disney rebooting it now that they own it? Sounds like a ghastly idea to me.
What I thought they should have done was to launch an animated series using the stories from the comic books, which would have solved the long list of issues Joss Whedon used to spout with regard to a return of the show. You could replace missing actors (RIP Mr Glass) with soundalikes, and the others wouldn’t even have to record their bits at the same time. But what do I know?
Eh. Crusade was a mess. “You’re the only ship that can find a cure for the human race before aliens sterilize the planet, so could you make a few side trips to sort out a labor dispute, do security for a conference and help various people with their love lives?” Admittedly the X-Files parody episode was a work of absolute genius but on the whole I’m not convinced.
In the “make new episodes” category, I want third seasons for The Tick and Dirk Gently (the latest versions of both) at the very least, as both were left with major cliffhangers and unresolved plot points.
I loved both of those shows.
I was actually unaware of this, but it looks to be the case, though Disney has released few details, other than it does look to be an actual reboot (with new actors and no Joss Whedon), rather than a continuation of the original story.
I was going to mention the hosting segments for Commander USA’s Groovy Movies, who was my favorite of the schlock movie hosts. But a check of YouTube finds that they, and the movies, are all posted in full. I have about 200 hours of nostalgia to catch up on, BRB…
Once upon a time, KidVid was Mamie Eisenhower-wholesome. Then cam Bubblegum Pop and it became embarrassing to be in the same room when it was playing things like Here Comes the Double Deckers!
Never mind
AfterMASH. I know it wasn’t great, but my complete MAS*H collection feels incomplete without it. And I recall finding it funny when I watched it back then, but then again, I was pretty young at the time.
I would love to see endless new episodes of The Venture Brothers, but it appears I shall have to settle for the upcoming feature which will supposedly wrap up the series.
I really liked Minoriteam, but it disappeared from the Adult Swim website less than a month after George Floyd was murdered. I don’t think I ever got to see every episode and there are only twenty of them.
I’d like to see Knight Rider 2000 again. With KITT in a sleek new red car.
I LOVED Commander USA, we spent many a hot, dopey Saturday afternoon watching. They showed some movies I’ve only seen that one time and never again. ‘Simon, King of the Witches’, and a couple of obscure Hammer horror films. (does anyone think the Commander looks a lot like one of the Watchmen? - the Comedian? )
