What handgun did Saddam Hussein have when he was captured?

I’ve come across a few articles mentioning that the handgun Saddam Hussein had when he was captured was presented to President G.W. Bush and is now kept in a study at the White House.

Oddly, none of the articles specify what sort of gun it was. I vaguely recall someone mentioning it might have been a Tokarev TT-33 (or one of the many knock-offs thereof), but I’ve also seen pictures of Saddam with a Browning Hi-Power.

I know, the information is trivia and only of interest to maybe a dozen firearms historians and enthusiasts… still, I and the other 11 would like to know the answer.

Anyone know?

Here’s an article from a New Zeland paper that says it was a Makarov.

You could ask George W. Bush what model, he has it now.

And if it’s not in Texas, but in his desk as the story goes, he’s in direct violation of D.C. area handgun laws.
