DeLay sure isn’t smirking now. His signature, smarmy, scum-sucking smile was usually plastered on his disgusting mug for every photo op.
I recall reading that he didn’t want to give political opponents the satisfaction of seeing a grim mug shot of him when he was booked, so he smiled big for his mug shot. Jackass.
If you’ve got the time, read the interview transcript under the photo for some good, old-fashioned sour grapes. Yep - classic DeLay bullshit.
A few choice remarks from the bug man himself:
DELAY: "Well, they shouldn’t get too used to being in the majority, because most of the seats that they won, we will take back in ‘08. I mean, my own seat, Shelley Sekula-Gibbs got more votes in her special election than Nick Lampson got in his general election. "
How’s that crow taste, you shit-heeled, corrupt, scum-sucking asshole? Where’s your fucking cheese-eating grin now?
Even Democrats agree that might just be the case. All hail, GW Bush, Tom DeLay and the neocons. Having destroyed our amity with the rest of the world, brought turmoil to Iraq along with thousands of casualties, and seriously curtailing civil liberties they might have outdone themselves.
They just might nearly have succeeded in ruining the Republican Party for several election cycles.
I’m glad we got here, but the cost was far, far too high. The Pubbies screwed the pooch bowlegged, that’s what it took. You really can’t fool all the people, all the time.
DELAY: I’m a great fan of Don Rumsfeld. I would not take him out, because he’s done a great job. He will continue to do a great job in leading the military and winning this war on terror. Frankly, I think that would be a great signal to the Democrats that we’re not going to capitulate to you. We’ll work with you, but we’re not going to give up what we believe in.**
Evidently DeLay isn’t on Rove’s official Republican Talking Point disto anymore.
Yes, but like they say about Iraq, once in it you’re stuck. When GW was elected some sort of mess was predictable based on his unblemished record of incompetence.
As is the case with Iraq, you just have to get out of the mess as best you can.
Delay was sort of right, pubbies will gain some back, American voters have a reputation of very short memories. It is a feedback system, the pendulum swings both ways, and like the weather never quites reaches equilibrium. This time it it got to swinging way to far to the right, it will swing way to far to the left. I don’t have that problem, Mrs Seenidog smacks me upside the head on both sides to keep me in the middle. If it gets too far out of line, I dress her funny.
A funny that I’ve been hearing is that the democrats ran on a platform of “The Rupublicans Suck”.
So, if the republicans suck so much that they got beat by a bunch of got-no-plan, liberal, cut-and-run, raise-your-taxes democrats, how much more than them do the rebublicans suck?(And not in a Foley way, either.)
I might have mentioned this here previously, but did anyone see Chris Wallace interview Howard Dean yesterday? Wallace was badgering Dean and asking him why hadn’t the Dems pulled the troops out of Iraq yet. I had to laugh because the votes were not even all counted yet and Wallace was already trying to frame the troops-in-Iraq mess as a democratic caused problem. I can just see Clinton now asking “Why didn’t you ask that of the other guys?” (and last week)
CNN just played a clip of Delay telling Democratic freshman that they shouldn’t unpack their bags, because they’d be voted out again just as fast.
Patrick Murphy, the Congressman-elect that I knocked out doors for in the biggest Congressional canvass program in the country, responded to the clip by saying, roughly: “With all due respect, I intend to serve the people of my district for a long time. If he wants to talk about packing bags, maybe he should start packing his bags for jail.”
There is no need for Tom DeLay to pack his bag for jail. The Texas Correctional system is the pride of a compassionate Legislature committed to rehabilitation and reform. All his needs will be provided for, there is no need for him to pack anything. Maybe a shiv…
