Please will someone tell me what happened to Ray on ER? I’m out of the loop.
That show is still on?
Got drunk at the wedding, fought with Gates over Neela, hit by a bus and is now a double amputee going home to recuperate with his Mom to Baton Rouge.
One good thing about the way Ray left is that Neela might go an episode or two next season without a man, seeing’s how she’ll be feeling all guilty about it. “I was listening to your message when it happened.”
I liked this year’s finale. Fairly low-key, not a bunch of cliffhangers like last year, and the year before that. The only character in physical danger appears to be Neela.
What’s up with Luka? Is he coming back next season? He looked so grim in the cab. The foreshadowing didn’t pay off, about flying when there’s an Orange Alert.
I like the new guy, Tucci. I don’t see anything wrong with his management style. You can’t handle the ER people with kid gloves, and he did offer some real help, with the standing orders for labs and stuff. Unnecessary crack about Abby sleeping with the ER administrator though.
Can we hope Sarah won’t be back? Kids don’t work on this show.
I assume that Ray will be back next season, so that a truck can fall out of the sky and finish him off for good.
(I firmly believe that the last five years or so of ER have been written by a computer.)
I really like Sarah. I think she’s a great kid actress, and a type of character we haven’t often seen.
Most of the episode was fairly good, but the translator/war protest semmed just WAY over the top and preachy.
They still managed to get a gasp out of me when they revealed Ray. Poor guy; his eyes looked so dead.
Stanley Tucci is brilliant as always.
I haven’t seen ER in years, so I had to look up this Ray character to see if it was one I would remember. This description on Wikipedia is hilarious:
Hee.
In all the upfront news this week, ISTR reading that Shane West shot a pilot which has been picked up. So don’t look for him back next season.
He offered two ways he thought standard procedure should be changed. (The thing about standing orders for labs, and the thing about taking patient history more seriously.) That’s fine. Those are good ideas. He’s got the authority to impose them. So do that.
Why the attitude?
He said he was glad that one character was “taking it personally.” I didn’t understand why she should take it personally, or why he should want her to. She was doing her job exactly as she was supposed to. If he wants to change what she is supposed to do, that’s his prerogative. There’s nothing personal here.
I didn’t get it.

Maybe he meant that in taking it personally, it meant she cares about what she’s doing and wants to do the best she can. As opposed to someone who doesn’t take pride in doing the best they can and wouldn’t care about the criticism. It means she will be open to better practices because she’ll be happy about their value??
I have always like Tucci, I just hate the fact that everytime they introduce a new Chief they have to be a jerk - it’s like they always need a jerk around - Benton, Romano, Kerri (for a while).
I think he needed the attitude. We’ve seen the ER staff poo-poo and ignore procedures that they think are unnecessary, or bureaucratic, or burdensome. They’re smart and caring and they work their asses off but they’re also independent and defensive, and they have a defeatist attitude about change. I think he’s trying to make them understand that no matter how overworked they are, they have to do better, and they can.
I hope Tucci’s character has zero patience for Gates’ cowboy attitude and drops his ass. That’ll learn 'im.
Was that some really good CGI work or a double when they picked him up from the wheelchair?
I thought it looked like Shane West. His injuries are interesting too; crushed legs but other than that just some cuts to his face. Although I guess if he threw himself out of the way and his legs got run over, that would make sense.
Looked like CGI on my TV. Probably similar to what they did with Gary Sinise in Forrest Gump.
Who was the woman who went off on Neela after Ray’s mom left with him?
I can’t recall her name, but she was the PYT Ray was sleeping with while trying to unsuccessfully get over Neela. PYT works at County, in psych maybe? They had a nice bitter argument/breakup after Ray had been refusing to acknowledge their relationship as an actual relationship and PYT realized she was just a booty call to a man who was completely emotionally unavailable to her, so I was rather surprised to see her at Ray’s bedside and appearing to have been called there days before.
“The big screen is beckoning ER’s most senior medicos. Goran Visnjic and Maura Tierney (aka deliciously moody lovebirds Luka and Abby) confirmed for TV Guide that they’re on their way off the show… ‘I’m pretty sure I’m leaving after next year,’ says Tierney, while Visnjic says he expects to do ‘a couple’ — fewer than five — episodes next season.”
