What have you done today that you're proud of?

Took the kids on a 4-mile hike in the national park, through a big geothermal feature (mudpots! boiling acid pools! sulfur!) and some forest and creek. Many wildflowers identified, much dirt gathered, also I accidentally threw my hat in the creek and my sister rescued it.

Replaced the swing-down door stop on the door between our kitchen and garage, which has a spring. Wife’s been wanting me to do that for a while. The old door stop didn’t hold the door anymore.

Pledged to help the nephew of one of my friends get to go to Greece on a choiring tour. I’ll probably drop $50 bucks down on him.

I made $32 today clearing small trees and brush out of a backyard.

I started a fire with just one match. (Burning old wood, part of brush clearing, done with proper safety precautions, etc.)

I made a yummy dinner that included home grown green beans and garlic.

I kissed a pig.

No foolin’.

It’s amazing what you do on the campaign trail.

Also, I pushed a stroller all the way up the hill at the National Zoo.

I’ve been meaning to get some painting done (walls, not pictures) and today I finally went out and got what I needed for the job. Tomorrow, I begin.

I did not attempt communication with a man who appears to be blowing me off. This is huge.

Replaced all of the broken window screens around the house. Did not take that long and it was something we had put off for years.

I made my lover feel good, we had great sex! Can a person be proud of such a thing?

After being released from the office after lunch to “Take care of whatever” since I’m still in-processing and there is literally nothing for them to have me do at the office, I went to my dorm, took off my uniform top and boots and… started calling phone numbers on my checklist, filling out paperwork, finding out what I needed to be taking care of the next day.

Well, I did after goofing off for an hour or two. Still, for me, this is very proactive. Also, by finding out what I need to be doing tomorrow, I found out I have PT at 0630, which I doubtless would have missed if I didn’t call to ask.

Dunno about today - but yesterday I did my tax return. AND my husband’s! I reckon that’s good for at least two days-worth of brownie points.

Does the past weekend count?

Friday night, traveling to a vacation cabin with three other people and two dogs in two completely packed cars, deep in the middle of nowhere, deep in the middle of the night, we almost hit a dog who ran out into the road and began following us.

With no room in the cars, and desperately behind in our planned schedule, and no cell phone service to call someone else, the people I was traveling with were inclined to say “What can we do? This old stray hunting dog is not our problem.”

I thought differently. After several tries, I coaxed her into my arms and into the car footwell, and rode the next hour and a half with my feet propped up on the dash and a stinking, filthy 70-pound hound staring up at me gratefully. Our own dogs seemed to understand this was not the time to make a fuss, and stayed quiet.

I bathed her twice at 4:30 in the morning; the water looked like dark brown tea even after the second bath.

She had a gray muzzle, worn teeth, and two tumors on her belly, one the size of a lemon, hot to the touch. We kept her all weekend and fed her until finally she was full. I taught her to sit. Her manners were pretty good and she’s very strong – my bicep is sore from trying to teach her leash manners.

I have no money for vet bills right now, and we already have more animals than we should – a lady on the condo board is trying to make trouble for us.

Being old and sick, this dog (later identified as a Plott hound) is a terrible candidate for adoption – but we took her to a “low-kill” shelter an hour out of our way anyway.

And there we left her, gazing faithfully through the bars.

Come to think of it, I’m not proud of myself after all.

.

See, that would fill me with a warm glow of pride :p. I have great respect for the aimless, hedonistic wallow.

But you should be.

Absolutely - if nothing else you gave that poor dog a few kind hours and a full belly instead of leaving her filthy and starving beside the road.

Be proud.

Woke up, called in to work to take a sick day (not sick but need to use some sick days), took my daughter to school, mowed the grass, recycled my old (broken) TV, bought a new TV, moved the old entertainment center to the driveway (someone from Freecycle is picking it up in 30 minutes), hooked up the new TV, bought/installed a wireless router (so I can play NetFlix through my Wii!), washed/dried two loads of laundry, loaded then put away a dishwasher load, got a haircut, picked up daughter from Brownies, went grocery shopping, came home, cooked/ate/cleaned up dinner, helped daughter with homework, and now I’m playing around on the computer while she does her 20 minutes of reading!

Whew! What a long day!! I’m going to work tomorrow so I can get some rest! :stuck_out_tongue:

Made job offers for 2 full time, well paid with bennies jobs to 2 people that desperately needed them. They accepted the offers within an hour of receiving the letters.

I got up and went to work, and now I’m posting here. Does that count?

I refrained from putting a smart ass post in this thread. Aw nuts! Nevermind.

I donated blood this morning.
