IIRC, the Methodist Sunday school teachers told us Satan cannot believe in Jesus Christ and achieve salvation because Satan KNOWS Jesus is the Son of God.
IOW, Satan’s rebellion was done with the knowledge that he was crossing a line FOREVER, that he cold not rescind his fall, no matter what.
Now, for argument’s sake, if Satan could repent, who would fill his shoes?
Adolph Hitler?
Well, if we are talking about Satan Classic, a creature of utter malice that engaged in a rebellion he’d couldn’t possibly win, and continues to torment the world and the souls he gets hold of apparently just because he can, then yes. Hitler has the combination of nastiness, grandiosity and self destructiveness to fit the role. As well as already being an iconic figure of evil.
For other brands of Satan, you’d need to pick someone else.
I’m not intimately familiar with the history of the Coca-Cola brand, but a look at Wikipedia shows that Coke Classic is the original recipe, which was reintroduced after a less well-received revamp. Is that what you mean? Because it’s still incorrect; the attributes of rebelliousness, “malice” and “torment…apparently just because he can” aren’t in the first several appearances of the character.
It wasn’t clear to me what you were trying to say. In my experience there is often confusion about which bits of Satan’s characterisation come from which sources (Job vs New Testament vs Milton, etc), and I thought it was worth clarifying.
Good catch. (needed a female to balance out Hitler, and the androgynous Michael, and figured a fictional one might go over better in my household on the eve of St. Valentine’s Day . . .)
As for the Bible, the Book of Job has Satan and God working in the same company and basically betting on Job’s patience. In the NT, Satan tempts Jesus, who refuses The Temptations. Undoubtedly preferring The Miracles because of Smokey Robinson. Most of the details about hell etc. are inferred that the Book of Revelation is talking about Hell and traditions from other religions. Dante and Milton also figure big in adding to the myth. Milton gave us the reason for Satan’s rebellion “It’s better to rule in hell than serve in heaven.”
Lucifer is the name of a minor Roman pagan deity who is a “light bearer”.
IMHO Satan will say I’m sorry, but it will take more then the fire of Hell to do that, for Satan Hell is a summer resort. That level of comfort that Satan is used to is still a blessing of God. God will remove that from him and Satan will find himself in a much hotter place, the lake of fire.
At some point, as we all will, Satan will cry out that he made a mistake and wants to come home.
There is a alternate theory that I have, Satan, comparable to a black hole can not be saved in himself, too late. But Satan can have children, and those children, which are part of the heart of Satan and part of the heart of the women can and will be. Satan will just ‘evaporate’ away much like a black hole does due to Hawkins radiation, except it will be Satan’s children who will come out, eventually there will be nothing left.
Kanicbird, do you have any idea about a timeline for this? I just talked to my ex today, and he might have sounded a little lighter but I don’t think he’s evaporated. kthx
