What is the LBMB?

What is the LBMB. I know it is a message board but why is it talked about so much.

It is a terrifying place full of narrow minded people who practice broad censorship and which once launched a spam attack on this board. They claim to be Christians, but they sure didn’t act like it.

Note: There were a small minority of worthwhile people there who decided to participate here and those people are welcome here, obviously.

If I may, I am a member of the LB MB. I am new to this MB, though and hope I will be welcome. I am a huge fan of the Straight Dope column and books, and had no idea there was a website.

The Left Behind MB is for people who read a series of books, called “The Left Behind Series”.

Yes, there are some incredibly narrow-minded people there, but there are also some very nice people. I know of only one person there who posts here, though, someone named JenkinsFan. It is a Christian MB, and yes, some of the people don’t act very Christian, but for the most part it is a great MB.

Just to clarify a little.

Thanks!

Kinsey, of course you are welcome here. There’s been some bad blood in the past between the SDMB and the LBMB, but hopefully that’s all behind us now and maybe all of us learned something.

Lerned something?! Durnitall, Unc, I thought life’s experiences were supposed to leave me untouched. I mean, how can we go on demonizing them (and vice versa, for all I know) if we learn anything??

Spoilsport.

On a more serious note, I thought I’d toss in a link to the LBMB, so those who are interested can check it out for themselves.

Of course RT, by “us,” I meant, “them.” I thought you were more perceptive than that. Sheesh.

Good point, Night…erm…Rufus!

Hi Kinsey-

I am a Christian, and I loved the Left Behind books. I am anxiously waiting for my friend to finish the new one, so I can borrow it.

I will check out the website-

Thanks!

Scotti

BTW, welcome-although I am new here and that is probably presuming.

Thanks for the link!

Scotti

Isn’t Navigator also an LBMBer? A number of non-Christian SDMBers also post there, I believe, mostly to provoke people. The one time I posted there, my message was removed in a few hours - and I had not said anything inflammatory at ALL. I got the feeling that if you don’t follow the party line 100%, the censors take action.

Hi. I’m ChiefScott and I’m a Christian.

Hi, ChiefScott!

To be more specific I’m Catholic, so some Christians don’t consider me Christian.

But for what it’s worth, LBMBers are more than welcome here, as are pagans, witches, Lutherans, Illuminati and so manny, manny, more!

What the LBMBers have in common is a series of books and commonality of faith.

What Dopers have in common is a love of Cecil Adams, The Straight Dope and expunging ignorance.

It has never been written that ne’er the twain shall meet.

Wekum all.

Here’s the backstory.

As others have written, the LBMB is a forum for fans of the Left Behind series of novels. These fans tend to be devout Christians.

A few months back, a few people who post on this board were visiting the LBMB. They wrote some posts which offended some of the LBMB members. They also apparently mentioned they were posters here. So some LBMB members decided that there was an organized plot on this board to attack the LBMB. They decided to respond by registering on this board and posted numerous Christain messages here.

Being as there was no organized plot here (in fact most of the people here had never heard of the LBMB prior to this) the first that most people here knew of this was when a flood of Christian posts appeared from a few dozen new posters simultaneously. Responses to this were varied; some people ignored it, some people flamed the LBMB posters, some people welcomed them, some people argued with them, etc.

Eventually cooler heads prevailed. The LBMB posters realized we were not Satanists (at least most of us aren’t), the SDMB people realized that the LBMB people were responding to what they felt was an attack, the confusion was cleared up, and everyone chilled. Most of the LBMB people have departed although a few decided to continue posting here. Undoubtedly, a few SDMB people went to check out the LBMB and have become regulars there.

Hi Chief Scott.

So you call yourself a Christian and a Catholic?
Don’t go to the LB board; many there seem to think for some reason, that Catholics can’t be Christians. I have never figured out exactly why; I stay away from those threads.
I am on thin ice there a little, since I am divorced and now remarried to one of you heathen  Catholics.

Scotticher, I just finished the newest book, “The Indwelling”. It was good, but I have a feeling they (the authors and/or the publishers) are trying to drag out the series. This one only covered about a 3 or 4 day period. They certainly could speed things up a little.

I am an LBer, a Lutheran, and a lover of Cecil Adams and urban legands. I certainly hope I can be all three!

Do the LBMBeemers talk about us as much as we do them?

Are we their messageboard lore?

[sub]is only a myth[/sub]

In this thread: jenkinsfan: One Trick Pony, DoctorJ said that jenkinsfan “said he was ‘going on another witnessing mission’ to the SDMB.” So I guess they they still care about us.

I occasionally lurk over there. (I can’t stay too long; I get a headache from the color scheme and the content.) If you try to get to the messageboard from http://www.leftbehind.com it looks like you have to register to get there. The link provided above by RTFirefly bypasses the registration. Are they trying to discourage lurkers? I really don’t want to register over there.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the link, Firefly. I wanted to check out the LBMB to see what all the fuss was about, but I had trouble locating it, and was pressed for time, so I gave up. This speeds things up a lot. I shall lurk at my leisure.

Thanks again. You’re a gentleman and a scallop.

here’s the thread from LBMB that shows jenkinsfan’s real reason for being here.

Happy to help everyone out by providing the link. I’ve got my own opinion about the site, of course, but I figure anyone who’s interested is far better served by checking it out for themselves.

I’ll limit my comments to agreeing wholeheartedly with DrMatrix about their color scheme, and to the following:

I wonder if the LBMB enforces the following policy with respect to postings about Catholics, Mormons, and other denominations considered less than reputable by evangelicals:

If there’s a problem, maybe someone should point the offending thread(s) out to the admins, and ask them about the above policy, located here. I’d be most interested in their response.
