If I remember the scene right, it’s Debussy’s Clair de Lune. That piece chokes me up almost every time I hear it.

Yes, the piece is Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy.

According to the IMDB, the scene was meant as sort of an homage to the scene in The Right Stuff when the astronauts are watching Sally Rand perform. The same music is playing in that scene as well.
