While watching *Singles *last night, my wife and I got to talking about which Cameron Crowe movies we liked the most. He actually hasn’t made very many movies, but there are some good ones on the list.
So, what’s your favorite movie by Crowe? Vote for just one, and post what you like most about it.
Oh, and even though he didn’t direct them, I’ve included Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Wild Life because they were the only other screenplays that he’s written but didn’t direct.
I am a huge fan of Cameon Crowe - *Almost Famous *is my favorite. I was extremely dissapointed with Elizabethtown (actually, I thought it was a complete disaster), and I couldn’t wait to hear him explain what he was thinking on the DVD commentary…but the original DVD had no commentary track.
Has he ever discussed the movie after it bombed? And are there any Crowe fans who* did *like Elizabethtown?
Almost Famous is his best film, IMO. But I decided to vote for Say Anything, which with is probably the best teen romance film ever done ( faint praise, perhaps - though the excellent Flirting is compeititive as well ). Possibly my favorite “chick flick” :p.
Fast Times… is fun, but not really his and I think the rest are different flavors of decent to medicore. But the two above are enough to make his career worthwhile.
I’d have to say Almost Famous, although Say Anything is a close second. And I actually liked Elizabethtown. I haven’t seen Singles in a long time and never saw Vanilla Sky or The Wild Life. One of the things I like about his films is how much a part of the language they become. (Say Anything, Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire are endlessly quotable and quoted.)
Because he did not direct? He did live it as well as write it, though.
It’s my favorite. Almost Famous was good, too, but never fully resonated with me the way it seemed to for others.
Funny, the day after I posted this poll I ran into Lloyd Dobler himself, John Cusack, at the Cubs game. I had tickets to one of the suites and he was in a suite just down a bit from us. Ran into him on his way out of the men’s room and he gave me a head nod, which is obviously code for: “I would have voted for Almost Famous too.”
I have a love/hate relationship with “Say Anything.” I loved it, but I believe it’s responsible for a lot of women of my generation to be eternally Looking for Lloyd Dobler.
Not only is ***Almost Famous ***my favorite Cameron Crowe film it is one of my personal favorites of all time. There are so many things in it that I identify with on a personal level and yet at the same time my life experience is so different.
Watch the special edition version with the commentary track by Cameron and his mom. Priceless.
