What is your fav'rite Energy Bar?

I am partial to the Nutz over Chocolate Luna Bar, m’self.

Energy bars? You mean the bars that alot of athletes take that enlarge their hearts? The little bars that cause heart attacks and strokes? Correct me if I’m wrong, but, I see energy bars as a substitute for steriods.
Uhmm…sorry if I hijacked or place this post in the wrong section

Mocha chip Balance Bars are my personal favorite.

Luna Bars are bad for me?

:frowning:

My favorite energy bar is a place down at Gulf Shores, Al. named: “Live Bait”. Great bands there every weekend night.

Oh, wait a second. [sub] That wasn’t really what you were asking, now was it?[/sub]

Consider yourself corrected. Energy bars are nothing more than food, if not necessarily high quality. Steroids are an honest-to-god drug. The two are not comparable. Next time, know something before you post.

And do you have any evidence to back up your claims of the health risks? Surprise me.

Energy bars contain protein in most cases. Ya know, that really good thing that muscles have to have in order to grow.

And my favorite are Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Nitro-Tech bars. At 35 grams of protein, it’s a little slice of muscle building heaven.

Carrot Cake Harvest Powerbars.

Chocolate Power Bars. There is something in their simplicity that I really like. Kind of reminds me of a tootsie roll.

In terms of taste…there is a particular Balance Bar that tastes very much like a Snickers bar that I really like. But when checking out the nutritional info on the label…it’s just too high in saturated fat to really be considered a nutritious energy bar. I limit these types just as I would a normal candy bar.

I like S’Mores-flavor Luna Bars. My wife is partial to the Nutz Over Chocolate.

(I hope I’m not giving some marketer a heart attack, but dudes enjoy Luna Bars, too.)

HUH? or should I say “cite”?

I don’t recall seeing ephedra in any energy bars on the market in my area.

Are you thinking of the same kind of “energy bar” we are?

(perplexed and curious, not snotty!! )

Oh yeah and my faves are the “Pure Protein” brand. They have an equal, or close to equal blend of carb grams and protein grams.

Most of the other energy bars are mostly carbs. The Atkins protein ones have an appropriate amount of protein grams too, but they are NASTY!

Oh and ones called “Carb Solutions”? (I think that’s the one), OMG, they are the grossest things.

The best protein bars are the homemade ones I make from a BFL (body for life) recipe on the online support group to which I belong.

The lady that created the recipe has her own website with a free recipe of the week.

not sure of the URL but you can search for “mrsbishwits Kitchen”.

Cliff bar, Peanut flavor.

Used to be Power Bar, Banana - but I haven’t seen them around lately.

Believe the hype.

I bought a box of Detour bars (which is fortified with 30g of Designer Whey protein, while only containing 25g of carbs) after having heard about their great taste (like Snickers). They taste better than Snickers bars.

Expensive, but awesome. The U-turn bar, by the same company, is also pretty good, but I don’t have one in front of me so I can’t detail it’s relative merit from a nutritional standpoint.

The Xenadrine bar is not bad, and it doesn’t contain ephedra.

<hijack>

Isn’t it funny that the common thought on diet up until recently was the Food Pyramid, which was carb-heavy, and now the common thought is that carbs are the worst thing possible? I wonder what will happen next…

We don’t have very many brands here, but I used to quite like the Powerbar Chocolate or Peanut Butter flavours for a quick lunch while ski-ing.

Now I mostly stick to cherry coconut flavoured HPLC bars (High Protein Low Carbo) if I have to eat something like that.

CanvasShoes, Wyld Stallyn. and phraser…do tell more (as in where to get these bars). I just started low-carbing again this week after a two-year hiatus, and the only thing they have around here are the yucky Carb Solutions bars of which you speak. Uuughhhh…

Well, I usually get mine in the health-food section of my local grocery store. The health food shop near where I live also has them. There are other brands of high protein low carb, but the carb isn’t particularly low in any of them, just comparitively lower.

I’m in Australia, so most of the brands I could mention probably wouldn’t be available over there

GNC. or go to the website of the Detour bar (which is double-u x 3 dot Detour dot com) and they’ll point you in the right direction, despite the name of the bar (HAHAHAHA, I’m a dork!)

woah. How did I get sammich’d between two identical phraser posts?

Unprecedented.
