There’s really only two ways. Chew them up or Let them melt in your mouth.
Unless you want to swallow them whole.
What’s your preferred method of enjoying this candy?

I’ve always let them melt in my mouth. I enjoy letting the candy shell disappear and then the chocolate melts. Yum. Usually I get the Peanut style and chew the nut after all the chocolate is gone. The plain ones are good too.
Either way, I like to let them melt in my mouth and not in my hand.
By the giant handful. I keep a container on my counter, buy them in big bags at the grocery store. Sometimes I shovel so many into my mouth I almost choke.
Here’s a picture (bad quality, just took it) of a shelf in my kitchen.
Now there’s a man that loves his M&M’s. They’ve always been in my top 3 favorite list. Quite a nice snack.
I like 'em with beer!
I’ve only chewed them. Hell, even hard candies like Werther’s or Brach’s butterscotch candies I can only last for maybe a minute before I bite down and crunch through them.
This thread is scaring Orange. Poor little guy.
Peanut M&Ms. Or, even better, the Almond ones! Ooh! I love 'em! “Them motes 'pon which I dotes!”
I carefully ration them, eating exactly two at a time. One for the left-hand bicuspids and one for the right. Crunch, crunch, chew, chew.
Delight!
(If there is any flavor difference to the various colors of candy shell, I am absolutely damned if I can perceive it.)
m&m’s AND peanuts. Chew. Better than either separately or the combined product.
You can eat the shells? I’ve been peeling them off and throwing them away. :smack:
Around age 15, I learned that kids from wealthy, profligate families sometimes ate more than one M&M at a time!
Of course, at that rate, they went through an entire package in less than a week.
Peanut M&Ms only though. The regular ones are a waste of time.
Generally chew them up. But sometimes I like to nibble the candy coating off, then eat the chocolate lump inside.
The best way, I’ve found, is to put a couple of all chocolate ones (no nuts inside) in your mouth, take a sip of refrigerator cold milk, and THEN chew the m&ms. Give it a try.
M&M’s melt in your mouth pretty quick. Easily within three to four minutes.
I agree. It’s hard to suck on butterscotch very long without biting into it. I usually give it maybe 5 mins and then chomp down. The smaller pieces dissolve in my mouth pretty quick.
I have to be careful with butterscotch or any hard candy. I have several crowns. So I wouldn’t just chomp down on a whole butterscotch or peppermint disc. That could be a costly mistake.
I guess in the States you don’t eat the red M&M’s last.
I voted chew them up, but I’m really more of a combo of chew them and let them melt in my mouth.
Dammit, now I want M&Ms.
I pre-melt them in the microwave.
I don’t like M&Ms. When I grew up in New Zealand, we didn’t have them, but we had an almost exact equivalent called Smarties (and also rival brand Pebbles) and they just made me feel unwell whenever I ate them. So I’ve stayed away from them since then. I occasionally try a single one, just to see if I’ve grown out of it, including when M&Ms finally arrived (late 80s I think) but it has never changed, they still give me a horrible headache.
