Just because I think it is interesting to see what other people do.
Me: I like to play around with computers (and I’m on this message board, imagine!) trying different OS’es, a little bit of programming, etc., and I also noodle around on the guitar sometimes. I’m trying to think of other stuff to get into, though.
I sew (cross stitch and hardanger), read fiction (mysteries, mostly), play poker online (in the SDMB weekly tourney and other sites), and torment my teen (it’s a hobby, right?)
I’m obsessed with golf, and I’m a black belt in hapkido. I also like to do various home improvement projects, hiking, and enjoy dining at fine restaurants. Unfortunately, my hobby of flying airplanes has lapsed because DC airspace sucks big time.
Turn ons include short to medium-length walks on the beach (I get bored on long ones). Turn offs include mean people.
I knit, make patchwork quilts, read (more and more nonfiction as I get older), cook, design elaborate household managements systems that never work, take long nature walks, and garden. I used to enjoy designing houses with my home design software, before I got a really good house of my own.
My husband has a cool hobby–he designs circuit boards for home hobbyists to build tube amplifiers with. He also gardens, cooks, and runs.
I collect model horses, and re-sculpt & repaint them. I have almost 500 in my collection. Same with dog statues, but far fewer, maybe 100-150.
I write. Hoping that someday this will be more than a ‘hobby’, but right now, I am unpublished and just do it for me & a few friends that enjoy reading it.
I read.
I occasionally draw & paint, not as much as I used to, tho.
Photography, mainly. A little hard to describe in a way that doesn’t end up sounding obsessive-compulsive, but one of my main subjects in recent years has been all sorts of transportation devices. Aircraft, trucks, trains, shipping. I’t’s a bit like collecting stamps, in that each item is different and there’s a good feeling when I’ve captured something rare, but I also enjoy just the traveling around to new places as I search for new subjects.
I’ve been doing this for a quite a long time, but recently I’ve found it can get a bit dicy at times. People sometimes seem to think I’m a would-be terrorist. Can’t imagine why. :dubious:
I’ve also got a crapload of model railway equipment in a closet, if I ever can get around to setting up a layout of some kind.
I sew. I’ve done historical re-reaction, sewn a bunch of my own clothes, and made my wedding dress and a few wedding dresses for close friends. I’ve just started making fleece stuffed animal monster things, and am enjoying it.
I’ve done spinning and weaving, chainmail, and all kinds of beadwork, and I sometimes think about getting back into it but currently I have two small children and things that are very fiddly try my patience.
I also read a lot and cook and bake compulsively. I do most of our bread and most things from scratch.
I also grow hot peppers and make pepper jam, but that is turning into more of a sideline business than a hobby. The pole dancing pretty much takes up all of my spare waking hours.
