What kind of poster are you?

#define Jack_Batty

Sorry.

Anyways, I think I’m pretty regular around here. I am fairly multitalented as far as posts go. I do both witty (IMO) one-liners and long point-by-point debates, and a bit in the middle. I usually respond, with fewer than 40 OP’s out of over 1600 posts. I spend a lot of time debating libertarianism and sticking up for the administration here. I’m not much for flames, but I do frequent the Pit and speak my mind in ways that I couldn’t in other fora.

For all the time I spend here, I generally get overlooked a lot, which happens to everyone, I guess, but sometimes I still feel a little bitter about it. Besides, I can live with simply watching the Ukulele Ike and Eve Show. Oh, and I also randomly completely suck up to others.

“Besides, I can live with simply watching the Ukulele Ike and Eve Show.”

—Why, thank you, George Fenniman! The Ukulele Ike and Eve Show is brought to you by Carnation Evaporated Milk, from contented cows. “So round, so firm, so fully packed—for that schoolgirl complexion! Ask the man who owns one; not a cough in a carload!”

Say goodnight, Ike . . .

{Cartoon Ukulele Ike gives Cartoon Eve a hot-foot, after which Cartoon Eve hits Cartoon Ukulele Ike over the head with an enormous mallet}

Apparently I am also the kind of poster who starts a thread 15 minutes before leaving work for the night so that I can’t follow up until the next day…

It seems we have a lot of drive-by posters (or at least the drive-bys are the ones who popped into this thread).

I can tell you, Lex. You are the type who hijacks a thread and attempts to turn it into a “Let’s all talk about Lexicon” thread, you shameless whore for attention, you.:wink:

Why, I think you may be giving Jack Batty a run for his money.:smiley:

I’m me. I think I have reached a point of passage in my SDMB career. Two weeks ago I was MPSIMS all the way. (An occasional, furtive step into IMHO) I’m branching out lately though. Its still all silly, I don’t know enough to really add to GQ or GD, but maybe, someday, I will be a valuble member of the boards!

[sub] or I can run screaming back to the warm home of MPSIMS[/sub]

I’m all over the board, giving out liberal doses of opinion and actually sometimes even ::gasp:: facts!. However, I’m not a big flirter or sex-talker (well, not on the Board anyway :wink: ) but try to be friendly and nice to everyone. God knows we get enough hate and discontent from those in our real lives, much less getting from an internet site (everyone: “Aw, ain’t that sweet”)

Actually, I started out in MPSIMS but lately I’ve been spending more time in GD, GQ, IMHO and the Pit. I’ve been closely following the Great Circumsicion (sp) Debate as it is the most amusing thread on the Board.

I only have a computer at work, so I get my fix here.

I tend to hang around in MPSIMS and IMHO the most. I will venture into GQ, but I only post there when I have something to contribute. I have ventured into the pit on occasion, but I do not usually flame. (there was that one exception…). I guess I’m known as a bit of a smart ass, who specializes in unmemorable short posts. I don’t flirt much on the board. I guess my image of myself on this board is that I’m vanilla pudding, fairly bland and inoffensive and easily forgotten after the fact.

Hmmm…

I’m the Prodigal Poster

I was here, then left and now have returned.

Now that I’m here, I’m the read-a-lot, post-scattered-comments poster. I read GD & Pit but I will try not to get involved in a heavy way…my temper and my ignorance can sometimes get ahead of me…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Eclectic.

The one that write the most
in uncorrect English, right?
Have no idea actually,
maybe someone else knows better then me??

I respond to topics in IMHO and MPSIMS, and usually type before I think. That is, if I get to the thinking part at all.

Also eclectic. And drive-by. (bangbang)

I suppose you can say I’m a drive by poster. I’ll lurk through the forumns and if I see something interesting I’ll give my 2 cents and get out. Most of my posts are ignored.
Like now.:slight_smile:

Idiot.

I stick to IMHO, and chime in on what I can. Sometimes I post threads, including one in GQ about crushing testicles, which eventually ended up sparking this HUGE annoying debate between two full-of-and-sure-of-themselves type posters. But I like the opinion based questions, and thinking that maybe what I write will get someone to laugh. Or maybe care. I probably hijack and drive by, but I know what neither of them mean. And I always get a kick out of what other smart people in the world have to say.

Overall, I’d say I’m a not necessarily entertaing but always entertained poster. And I certainly never post just to raise my post count.
::Adds tally to post count::

Like Anniz, I have no idea how I’d characterize myself. You tell me. I will say that I’ll post in all forums, and I have will talk/post about almost anything if asked.

I tend not to post unless I can add something to the thread.

Then again, since no one has quoted me (damn search engine) or replied much to my posts, I don’t think I’m adding too much :frowning:

Oh goody! Another talk about ourselves thread!

As those more experienced with expression of ideas through print can probably attest, and has been commented on before on this board, manny posters are not skilled enough in the writing craft to express via their postings the IRL poster. I’m undoubtably travelling in that coach.

Hmm…, is this what this thread is about?

Well, in a way, yes.

I relish (oohwhee, the talk about myself part!) the rare thread where I can actually bring to bear some of my accumulated and specialized knowledge. And I’ve got some interests that I’ve followed where I can cough up some info that may be revelatory, although I’m always ready on those threads to step back when an expert arrives. And then sometimes I just run off and search a subject that I know nothing about, but was presented in such a way that I feel that the poster might just benefit from a helpful hand on the search.

So, that’s what I do in GQ. Same thing in my increasingly rare (increasingly rare?) attendance to matters pending in ATMB.

I’m not quite the yack-animal some are in MPSIMS, but I try to attend to the niceties (why?), and sometimes it’s just fun. I’ve also made quite a few friends through that venue.

In the Pit I’m a rare visitor, as is the case with GD, for different reasons. I don’t, as some obviously do, enjoy the Pit. And I slogged through several of my fave subjects in GD (more than once) when I was new here, but I came to feel I was not going to change anything via that venue, so I can’t easily see summoning the energy to go there often (I did post the first debate topic in GD).

And the Comments forums are like occasional 3-day weekends or something; i.e., a whole new crew’s out there.

“shameless whore for attention”

Actually, that about sums it up…

Mostly a drive-by poster here.

I don’t go into great debates because:
a)I’m a lousy typist, and by the time I get something organized, and proofread, somebody else has already said what I wanted to say, and said it better.
b)I usually don’t have the time to devote to a long debate.
My real life keeps interfering.

I very rarely can offer an answer in General Questions 'cause I’m not really an expert in anything. Though I know something about a lot of things.

I don’t flirt well, so don’t, and have taken to avoiding post parties lately.

So I just hang around in MPSIMS and IMHO, inserting the odd wise crack or ill-informed opinion, which usually goes over with a decided thud, and laughing at the jokes.

Can you tell I’m feeling morose tonight?
