What movies have you seen more than once in theatres?

For that matter, more than twice?

For that matter, what’s the most times you’ve ever seen a movie in theatres?

Answering my own question:

I saw the first LOTR three or four times in theatres. TOWERS I saw two or three times, and, oddly enough, I saw RETURN twice, even though I hated it. (A friend of mine showed up at my apartment and insisted I go to the midnight showing with him, while my cousin and I had made plans to see it at 7 on the “official” date.)

(ETA: But none of that compares to the girl I went to see TOWERS with on my 2nd or 3rd go; she had seen it THIRTY-FIVE times.)

Anybody else?

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Woodstock, A Hard Day’s Night, and Help!

Saw Star Wars 26 times in the theater when it was first released. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen Rocky Horror at a midnight show. Lots and lots of movies out there I’ve seen a couple of times in theaters. Nothing like the first two, however.

In 1971, almost all of the girls I took to movies wanted to see Billy Jack

A couple of years before that the prime date movie was Zefirelli’s Romeo and Juliet

I have seen both of these more than a few times

Do you want me to send some hookerbots back in time to rescue your younger self? I assume you were being held captive.

2001 five times, twice in Cinerama. Six times if you count a showing at a con.
Star Wars and Empire twice each, three times if you count the new version as the same movie.
Three Ninjas twice because my daughter loved it.

Now we saw Cats 6 times, once in London, three times on Broadway and twice in Philadelphia because our kids really, really loved that show.

Yes and no.

Yes to the hookerbots, of course. 22-year-old me would be very appreciative. But no, I wasn’t a captive of anything other than entrancement with the new universe unfolding in front of me. Until George ruined it for everybody by making more movies.

I saw Kevin Smith’s Dogma twice. It was so bad that I thought that I must have been in a bad mood or sick or something so I saw it again. No, it just sucked. Same for The Blair Witch Project. There had to be more to it than I had caught on the first viewing. Again, no, it was just a terrible movie.

Good movies that I saw twice in the theater include Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Boys Don’t Cry, and American Beauty. Most times that I see a movie twice in the theater it’s because I saw it alone the first time and told someone about it and went with them the second time.

Lots of 'em. It used to be, in those pre-VCR days, it was the only way you could see a film more than once. Even afterwards, I’ve seen films more than once in a theater for the experience. This is only a partial list

Phantom of the Opera (1925) – saw it with organ accompaniment, with orchestral accompaniment, with Rick Wakeman score, etc. At least four times

Spartacus – numerous times as a student, twice for restored version

Doctor Zhivago – three times at least

**Star Wars ** – more times than I recall. Six times in the first year.

Empire Strikes Back

Return of the Jedi – at least seven times in four years, probably more.

Lord of the Rings – I saw the Ralph Bakshi version three times in theaters. There were at least two different cuts between the premiere in NYC and the later version, with scenes in different orders.

The only one that springs to mind is Dark Knight Rises. I loved the movie when I first saw it and about a week after I was in a super bad mood, wanted smoething to distract my mind, so I went and saw it again.

Oh wait, and The Avengers. Saw it myself, and then it got re-released over labor day of that year and I saw it again with my dad.

I wanna say I saw one or more of the Star Wars Prequels a couple times, but I can’t remember

I saw The Longest Day four times the summer it came out. I’m not sure why, I think I just loved the way the stories were put together, the pacing (that place where the French underground person is about to cut the throat of a Nazi, and there’s a scream that turns out to be a railroad engine whistle which the scene cuts to, was iconic to me), the mix of good and bad outcomes for the different characters, and the final positive ending. Not as gory or realistic as Saving Private Ryan I guess (I never saw it) but a hell of a lot of good acting nonetheless.

There are probably a few other movies that I have seen twice in theaters (Star Wars, maybe Empire, maybe one or more of the LotR movies) but if so it was pretty much incidental.

Star Wars…maybe a dozen times.

Murder By Death: fourteen times. My God, I love that movie!

Who Framed Roger Rabbit: three times.

2001: A Space Odyssey: three times.

If I’m counting right I saw Star Wars 26 times. BUT it was because it was $1, they didn’t clear the theater between showings, the theater had A.C. and we didn’t, we had great weed brownies and it was the middle of a heat wave.

I really only discovered the joys of multiple theatre visits with LoTR and the Marvel movies.

I’ve seen a lot of movies twice, because I watched them, and then I took relatives to see them, I won’t count those.
Iron Man 5
Avengers 3
Guardians of the Galaxy 3
LoTR 5 or 6, I lost count.
Fellowship only 3
Return only twice
Avatar 3 (it was so pretty)
Inception 3 (third time round was a rare op to watch in IMAX, so…)
Pacific Rim 3
Lego Movie 4

I don’t consider Rocky Horror attendance/participation to be movie watching in theatres, but it’s in the low teens at least.

I saw Time After Time 17 times in two weeks. Since it was a big hit when first released, I image that’s some kind of record.

The most I’ve ever seen a movie in theaters is seven times, and that movie was Purple Rain. Second place goes to Pulp Fiction, with me having seen it four times in theaters (and countless times more on VHS/DVD/cable).

I would suspect that the movie I’ve seen the most in any format (and it would stand to reason this is the case, as it’s my favorite movie of all time) would be The Godfather (I’m conservatively guessing I’ve seen it, oh, 150 times). But I’ve never seen it in a movie theater. Bummer.

The Poseidon Adventure - 6 times in the first 8 months

Star Wars (IV) - 5 times

The Blue Lagoon - 4 times

Ordinary People - 4 times

The Rocky Horror Picture show(twice)
The Abyss(twice)
Broken Blossoms(twice, at different silent film festivals)

Chariots of Fire(four times)
The Sword and the Sorceror(five times)

Those last two were in 1983, the year I won a card to all the theaters in town, for a year. I could see a movie again and again and not even pay for it!

I really don’t get out to see movies as much as I ought.

Lawrence of Arabia twice–in its original run. Beautiful Peter O’Toole & beautiful Omar Sharif & the beautiful desert on the giant screen. Real spectacle in the days before CGi.

Many years later, O Brother Where Art Thou twice. Because I love the music & the film made that era come to life.
