What? No Supernatural season finale thread?

All in all, I think if they’d ended the series with this episode, I would have been satisfied (and I’m assuming if the series had ended there, they wouldn’t have Sam popping back up). It would have ended as sort of a downer, but I really don’t think the Bros. Winchester could ever have a happy ending. Not in the long run.

I’m thinking Chuck the Prophet was just a prophet. When he vanished in a puff of…sparkles, I thought “What, no fiery chariot for him? Just poof, and he’s gone?” not “Oh, so he was God all along!” Him being God sort of makes sense for this episode alone, but not really the rest of the show.

As for Sam coming back, what’s the significance of the lamppost flickering and going dark? Just something generally supernatural, or is there something specific associated with it? Because, if he’s back from the Pit that quickly, it seems sort of…dissatisfying. Though, I guess they could just be echoing the beginning of season 4.

My initial impression was that the lamppost thing was meant to show Sam was a demon.

He finishes his glass and sets it down next to the empty bottle, then vanishes.

I don’t know, but I know a man who does :stuck_out_tongue:

Sam didn’t look very happy at the end, so I’m guessing that was Lucifer.

OTOH, if God was involved, then it would be easy enough for God to pluck Sam out of hell and let him have a last look at Dean or something. But, what Sam saw was a tortured fucked up Dean who was definitely not living a happy apple pie life.

I like the theory that Chuck was Jesus, which is mainly based upon the name Mistress Magda being somewhat similar to Mary Magdalene.

My pet theory regarding Sam is that he’s finally got control of his powers.

This is totally wishful thinking, though, since I really really really want Sam to get control of his powers. It is ridiculous that he has spent five years alternately pretending that he doesn’t have powers, or that they only work when he’s consumed demon blood.

Also, I don’t think Sam could be a demon. Demons take possession of human bodies, and that was…you know, Sam.

I can buy God playing Chuck to the hilt even when nobody was looking. God is a Method actor.

(And besides, the angels were *always *watching Chuck)

Didn’t Dean ask him whether he had a thing for virgin-whores? Sounds like God to me!

The whole reason Castiel first showed up was to resurrect Dean. And we’ve seen the angels bring Sam and Dean back to life before. But it was established that after Castiel rebelled, he lost a lot of his angel mojo and could no longer just bring the dead back to life willy nilly or time travel, etc. He was able to bring Bobby back because he was restored to his angel mojo. As to why not the others? I guess out of sight, out of mind…

It’s pretty clear that in the last two episodes, Cas lost what was left of his angel mojo. In the previous episode, he had to be taught how to use a gun. At the beginning of the finale, he’s sleeping in the backseat of the Impala and Dean says something about sleeping angels, to which Sam replies “angels don’t sleep”. He was just a regular guy at that point, apparently.

It appears that at the end of the finale, he was brought back, not just as an angel, but a more powerful angel than he ever was before. I don’t think he could bring people back to life before he rebelled - he wasn’t able to revive Pam when she died, after all, or even restore her vision. (Which would only have been fair, considering he’s the one who burned her eyes out in the first place.)

Yeah, I got the impression Cas is the new Michael, which might put him close to Lucifer’s power.

Uh, what? No way. “clearly meant”??? I mean it is possible, but it wasn’t clearly meant.

I think Castiel is now an ArchAngel. He will appear again.

I think so too. If you only watch the show and don’t pay attention to the actors, you won’t know this, but Misha Collins has acquired himself a legion of fans by acting like a mad genius all over the internet (the best thing ever was when he got in a Twitter war with P. Diddy, of all people) and at conventions. I don’t think the show wants to lose him.

P.S. Since I’m being all gossipy and not talking about what’s actually on the show anyway, Jensen Ackles got married today. single perfect tear

Did his now-wife want to see how the finale played out before she actually said I do?

Ha, maybe!

I thought it was just that he’d finished his book. And, since he’s a Prophet (with a capital P), that’s not just his job- it’s his life. It’s the reason he existed. He chronicled the Book of Winchester, and his job was done.

And, since he’s no longer a Prophet, he no longer has a job on Earth. Poof!

Put me down in the “He was just a Prophet, not God” category.

I gotta go back on this one! I mean, one of the main points about Jesus was that he was God AND man, and he had doubts (his prayer at the garden being a main point) and here comes a MAJOR fanwank, so beware!

Here’s how I reimagine Jesus/Chuck. Obviously at some point after making the angels, God made human beings, and he gave them free will. Adam/Eve were the first to use it; Jesus later talked about it (man was not made for the sabbath, the sabbath was made for man, etc) but ultimately the big deal in Supernatural seemed to be Destiny versus Free Will. They even said here’s Team Free Will, and Dean had his talk with Gabriel about things…anyway, the point was always about choice versus unavoidable destiny.

OK, so Lucifer was pissed off. Why? God made humans and told everyone to bow down to them. Why? The logical answer is, they had free will and they were made that way, they knew no other way to live than to choose their own paths.

Lucifer saw this and was furious. Nothing could be more worthy of worship than God; these humans, yes, they had free will but they made bad choices, and so Lucifer despised them.

Then God sent Jesus/Chuck to show how human beings, using free will, could do The Right Thing. Lucifer tried to tempt him and all that, but Jesus/Chuck made the right choices.

Ultimately, Jesus/Chuck realizes that the best way to further God’s plan is to give basic information but allow Sam and Dean to make their own choices. If Free will is in fact the best way, then God HAS to step back, or at least be really subtle.

And so Jesus/Chuck ends up proving his point to Lucifer, and maybe Michael too; There is something more powerful out there, and it is choice. Chuck/Jesus wins!

I just started following him. Thanks for the info.

Oh, and Happy Sunday, Ass-Butts.

Hold on until Wednesday, when Supernatural airs here. I’ll be in then!
