tdn: The porn that I’ve seen that is allegedly “targeted toward women” tends to be really sappy garbage with a* plot*. With a lot of talking.
Bleargh. Get to the good stuff. If I wanted to see romance with a plot, I’d go rent a chick flick. I’m watching porn to see sex. Good sex. The kind I might like to have, or project myself into the fantasy… ya know?
But, mostly men use porn (women have the luxury of being able to spank it without visual stimulation), so mostly men buy porn, so the porn caters to what sells, which is stuff that men like.
My little niche market (heh) is probably not enough demand for the movie makers to give a flip about. Hence, a lot of straight women go for gay porn.
I’ve seen one movie – a long time ago – on a tape made for men, but it looks like it was made more for women.
This woman comes home looking bedraggled, and listens to her answering machine messages. Her mom called to criticize. Her boss called to yell at her. Her paper boy called to demand payment. So she unwinds by pouring herself a glass of wine, shaving her pussy, and fantasizing about the perfect man. And of course, we get to see the fantasy.
The stress plotline, the soft lighting, the soft music, and that it looked more like “making love” than pounding meat led me to believe that I was not the intended audience.
Because I like my sexual fantasies to take me out of my real-world daily mundane crap. Not show me exactly what it’s like. I already know what it’s like.
Wanna show me some porn for women? Here’s a plot:
Woman comes home looking bedraggled and listens to her answering machine messages. Hot Perfect Guy™ strolls in and interrupts her to tell her that he’s already called her mother back and paid the paper boy. He’s finished (finally!) painting the kitchen as promised and dinner is on the stove. He pours her a glass of wine, bends her over the kitchen counter and proceeds to serve up his “appetizer.” Her three orgasms are earsplittingly, obviously real. Perfect Guy™ does not get off because he just wanted to give her pleasure.
Boom chicka wow wow.
And afterward, he does the dishes and folds a load of laundry. There’s your money shot.
See, I know you’re joking, but that last example there is FAR more misogynistic to me than any guy in “straight man porn” slapping a girl’s ass and calling her a dirty, filthy skank.
(I’m not attacking you at ALL, sorry if it seems like that! I’m just saying a porn like that would be more offensive to me than your run of the mill porn)
Not defensive, just . What’s woman hating about it?
My fantasy is more about: what stresses me out in daily life is that I always seem to be taking care of everybody else, and for a lot of women, that includes taking care of their partners sexually. Often, very little attention is paid to what the Woman of the House is dealing with in terms of: hey, I need help. I. can. not. do. it. all. by. myself. That’s why we have partners. But if all I’m doing is taking care of my “partner” and my kids and my job and whatever else, and nobody’s taking care of me, I fail to see how it’s a misogynistic fantasy to reverse the roles and have someone service me for a minute. So maybe you could esplain, please?
I don’t need romance and flowers; I need the dining room painted! (And a good hard orgasm. But I have B.O.B for that, so you can keep your stupid male-centric porn. :D)
Because that type of porn would be relying heavily on female stereotypes.
[ol]
[li]We’re waiting for Prince Charming to come sweep us off our feet[/li][li]We need romance, not just fucking.[/li][/ol]
Those are stereotypes. I know plenty of women who get off on dirty, raunchy, fucking without some BS romantic connection. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not at all condemning your fantasy, because that’s yours. What I am saying is that if I were to stumble upon such a porno, I’d be far, far more offended than one where a woman and man are just banging furiously while he’s pulling her hair and calling her a dirty slut. One relies heavily on long standing female stereotypes, one is just fucking.
Is there anything misogynistic about the sexual part of your fantasy? Of course not. There isn’t a darned thing misogynistic about a guy bending some woman over a kitchen counter and her actually being into it (unlike many porn actresses). There’s nothing wrong with a sex scene that revolves entirely around a woman getting off and not a man. But that’s just the fucking. It’s the set up in your scenario that is misogynistic because it plays into these ever-present stereotypes people hold about women and their emotions.
I don’t watch porn to feel like I have a partner that cares for me and my daily, non sexual needs- that’s what RL boyfriends are for. Just like “man porn” doesn’t show his girlfriend doing his laundry or being cool with him playing Madden with his friends all night (things men really do enjoy in partners).
Whereas I, a dude, want plot. I want to know why the characters are doing what they’re doing, and for their to be motives for and results of their fucking. Along, of course, with the fucking. I want a story arc.
I suppose in my fantasy world, sex is not at all related to my partner’s ability or inability to do chores around the house. That’s where I got caught up in your scenario.
I feel ya’, don’t worry :). Remember, at first I even said I knew you were joking about all that, but in general, if I found that hypothetical porn, it’d offend me more than the run of the mill, MonW bang bang bang porn heh.
I had a woman over one night, and things got pretty hot. After she got me off, I asked if there was anything I could do for her. She thought about for a second, then said “Um… Wash my car?”
If I’m really trading sex for favors, I’m going to aim a little higher than a $5 car wash. Shoot for the moon and even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars!
That’s why I like porn involving Randy Spears. He’s one of the few men in porn who actually pays attention to the woman he’s with, listens to her directions, seems to enjoy her enjoyment, and has a sense of humor about everything. What made me notice him in the first place was in a movie he probably did back in the 90s – at one point the woman squeaked oddly, and he actually stopped what he was doing, asked her if she was all right with genuine concern, and when she blissfully replied yes, made a joke that made her laugh and went back to business. I thought, “I like this guy, who is he?”
I’ve never seen him do anything upsetting (by my standards), like spit on a woman’s face, or behave aggressively unless it was at the request of his co-star. (If he’s still active, I don’t think I’ve seen anything he’s done recently, so things might be different now. I sincerely hope not, because he seemed like a decent guy.)
A lot of R rated stuff is worse than porn. Women are basically hunted and killed in your typical horror slasher movie. There’s a trope that any teen couple that has sex in a horror film dies by the end of the film. Usually the awkward virgin survives.
There is a segment of porn that I avoid. I watch the classics from the 70’s and 80’s. Serena did a lot of rough & degrading sex in her films. Usually with her real life partner Jamie Gillis. I hit the fast forward button past scenes I don’t care for.
70’s porn had a lot more violence in some adult films. The director Alex de Renzy made several adult 70’s films that are hard to find uncut today. There was a law passed that eliminated the worst stuff. That’s why some classics are only available (mainstream) after heavy editing.
