Yeah, but, as I said, it’s Classic Silver-Age FF I’d like to see. Gimme a Jack Kirby Galactus and the traditional FF in their pocket rocket getting zapped by cosmic rays. Gimme a Sorcery-studying Victor Von Doom who gets his face torn up by forbidden experiments, then studies with Tibetan mystics and forges his proto-Darth Vader armor in the mouth of an idol. Let me have the Blue Area on the Moon and the Negative Zone and The Hive and the Inhumans in the Forbidden Land.
Heck, Guardians of the Galaxy I took Ronan the Accuser pretty much as he was in FF#65, and he went over great. GotG #2 took Ego the Living Planet from Kirby’s Thor of the same period, and did great. Now it loks as if for GotG #3 they’re going to take Him/Adam Warlock from FF# 66-67 (I knew it was his cocoon before they even showed it in that post-credits scene) All the good stuff is going to other parts of the franchise. Don’t tell ME there’s no market for Classic FF characters.
Give me Annhilus and Quasimodo and Boss Barker with his Perfect Power Stones fighting the FF before the Guardians or somebody else steals them!
About a decade ago, I was fantasizing about a Shazam movie, and thinking about the cast.
My first thought was, “The Rock as Black Adam.”
Then I thought, “Screw Black Adam. He should play Captain Marvel!”
He has the chin for it.
He used to have the hair for it.
I have seen the Roger Corman version of Fantastic Four.
It sucks.
But it could have sucked a lot worse.
The screenwriter had actually read the comics, and did actually attempt to bring the comics to the screen.
The actor playing Doctor Doom was a horrible actor. But he had the perfect voice for a madman in an iron mask. His armor was obviously plastic, but they did a good job on the mask.
Irredeemable - The Plutonian is a Michael Bay wet dream! Just explosions and carnage and destruction galore. Of course, by no means should Michael Bay be allowed near it! A movie or series about a physical god that doesn’t give a flying @@% about the little people could be awesome. Hancock would have been a much better movie had Will Smith stayed a jerk.
ETA: Dwayne Johnson was a great heel in the WWE, I think he could pull off Black Adam’s sneering condescension and arrogance quite well.
Admittedly it’s a longshot, as neither of them are particularly well known. I’m aware that both characters were subsequently revived by other publishers, but you’d be hard pressed to find an ordinary, non-geek person who has heard of them.
A “Legion” movie could be totally awesome. The thirtieth century setting (well, I guess they’d have to make it thirty-first), as many or as few as they want to have. And a Melissa Benoist cameo at the end.
Eh, Saturn Girl’s silver age costume was basically a one-piece swimsuit with boots; silly, but not particularly titillating. Projectra’s crazy laced-up thing was a bit more risque. And, I suppose Phantom Girl’s boob window would excite the “durrr, boobs” crowd…
And then their heads would explode when Cosmic Boy showed up in his bustier, for fear they’d all catch teh gay.
Except all of that has no chance of showing up outside of a porn parody. They’d modernize the costumes, like any of the later reboots did.
My favorite part? The fact that it uses a show-don’t-tell narrative style.
Better even than Judge Minty and that was pretty fucking good (better than any of the Judge Dredd films, IMO).
Thanks you so much for bringing that to my attention, MrDibble!
Which phase? Or write a whole new story? Frankly, I don’t wanna revisit Phase I; it’s kinda cliche at this point and the social commentary is out-dated.
Ddamn! I’m gonna be thinking about that Strontium Dogs film all day! WOOT!
PS238 started in dead-tree form, and he’s been gradually putting the pages up online. I think Patch is saying that the dead-tree form has concluded (it’s been a while since I’ve bought any, so I’m not sure).
Yeah, that could work. It would be tricky because you’d have to seriously limit the number of alternate universes (and the number of characters). The basic story is good although I wonder if it would seem like a GotG ripoff to people unfamiliar with Zenith. Oh, and I’d change the Lloiger name to something else. That may look good in print, but it’s difficult to pronounce and not particularly menacing sounding. Still, it seems do-able and it could be fun.
Not familiar with that one; I’ll have to check it out.
And before I even posted I did so, only to discover that Albion is a reboot of a favorite of mine, The Steel Claw! I have the entire 1986 series! So yeah, that would be great to see!
A limited amount of his crew. I read a good many of the paperback re-issues in the 1970s and my main criticism of the series is that too many of the stories spent way, way, way too fucking much time on Monk and Ham.
