What the fuck is wrong with Huey Freeman?

The Root is incredibly stupid. Not quite Everyday Feminism stupid, but leaning that way.

It doesn’t bother me personally, but I’d only usually reserve it for the worst of the worst, if only because I have friends that ARE disgusted by it.

I agree with Emiliana. In the US, the term contains vile connotations. I am aware that in many other places this isn’t the case, and I consider the source when I hear/see the word. I think a US person using the term is likely to be well aware that it’s a nasty, misandrist slur here.

I think you mean misogynist, right?

“Incredibly stupid” or not, “shitty” or not, comparing The Root to Stormfront is asinine, harmful, and IMO racist as fuck. “Here’s a bunch of Black people who write things I don’t like and sometimes find stupid, they’re pretty much like RaHoWa White Supremacists!”

Er, yes. :o

Eh, my sister links to the Root sometimes. It’s often written with the aim of getting readers riled up, but in my passing familiarity it’s definitely no Stormfront and I can’t imagine seriously making that comparison.

Until I see calls at the Root for (say) violent revolt and subsequent construction of a black ethnostate I just don’t buy that.

“All white people have autism because of rampant inbreeding”, on the other hand …

I guess I’ve had a very non-representative exposure to it.

Yeah, the comparison is ridiculous.

Can I give some unsolicited advice? Do not seek the approval of these animals. You are being played (and laughed at) by people who don’t have shred of empathy toward you. If you died right now, these animals would be ecstatic and celebrate; they would talk behind your back and gossip. And, deep down, I think you know this too. These animals - these vultures - leave the meat of a person’s post or point to, instead, peck strips of rotting flesh from the carcass of triviality. There’s no focus on what the argument is, just who the person is. This place - for all intents and purposes - is a cult. Need proof? Wait for the vultures’ response. But in the mean time, please know that these animals don’t care whether you said something misogynist (and, think carefully, given what’s encouraged here: why would they care you said cunt in the** BBQ Pit**?), these vultures just want to use it as a bludgeon to sidestep your point, to degrade your spirit (white folks don’t know this means), to humiliate you, to trip you up and make you look like a hypocrite. My advice? I would suggest that you consider reducing the amount you post or stop posting altogether. These animals do not deserve and are incapable of appreciating your point-of-view.

This is exactly how that aging dead-end college student I mentioned in post #152 justified the trolling he did. He said because of these conditions there was no point in trying to change people’s minds in online settings, so if he wanted to do that in good faith he’d do it at the academy.

Is that who you are, Huey? Are you in your late 30s or even older with dozens of semesters of African-American studies under your belt with precious little prestige to show for it while you think the Robin DiAngelo’s of the world are lapping you and your antisocial streak?

Exactly.

White folks didn’t have a problem with Jet,* Ebony*, or Essence Magazine because it shows people of color dancing, singing, joking, smiling, running, throwing a football, or otherwise entertaining white folks. White folks love that shit. White folks love when we blindly entertain them; indeed, the arch-racist Laura Inghram once remarked that black NBA players should “shut up and dribble”. Black publications that don’t show people of color singing and dancing will always be looked at as threatening. This is par for the course for white folks; indeed, white folks didn’t like the Crisis or the Greenbook, either. * The Root *is indispensable for people of color as it highlights the news that white-owned news organizations do not, will not, or refuse to cover. For example, did you know that a white coach told a black kid that her “skin was too dark” and that “she’s fucking black. I hate that”. No? Me, either. Which is exactly why The Root is widely read and shared among people of color. The fact that these animals compare it to white supremacy shows their hateful need to equivocate their racism with the criticism that people of color have with the majority. This is, as you correctly point out, ridiculous and “racist as fuck”.

… which would be utterly impossible if ideas like the ones the Huey Freeman has shoved into its mouth were as mainstream in the academy as conservatives insist they are.

See, as part of their endless drive to run down anything which could challenge them, conservatives reflexively deride academia, partly using the pseudo-populist notion embodied in the time-tested phrase “You think you’re better than me, is that it?” but more insidiously by stating (or simply assuming as a premise, in the hope of smuggling it in) that “identity politics” is governing academia, by which they mean that people who have an ostensibly poorer background by virtue of their skin color, sexuality, or other inborn trait have more clout in the academic world. This idea is quite useful in shutting down anything which would shift focus from traditional conservative heroes, such as Robert E. Lee and Andrew Jackson.

In short, the Huey Freeman character is carrying water for that dishonest ideology, by shoving it into the mouth of a “Black” character. And they don’t even have to pay an actual Black person to mouth their silly propaganda! What a deal!

Of course accusing conversational opponents of being “defensive” is a tactic, but on a message board it’s a rather poor tactic, because people can go back and read the post or posts you’ve characterized that way. When they do, inevitably, they will judge your ploy to be unsuccessful—and any shreds of credibility you might have retained will be forfeit.

Using the “defensive” accusation in verbal debate might seem on the surface to be a better tactical choice—but with the widespread use of recording tech, you may find yourself embarrassed there, too. A YouTube of the encounter would expose you to yet more derision.

I’d advise using some other tactic altogether.

“Huey’s” gambit of accusing those who fail to post agreement with Huey’s posts as “animals” seems scarcely likely to be an improvement on the “defensive” tactic, because, again, readers can examine the posts in question and judge for themselves. In fact, this problem is likely to arise for you no matter what argumentative stratagem you might devise (or borrow).

Perhaps Huey’s advice to you of leaving the board altogether is your only real hope of success. I wouldn’t advise it myself, but then it’s Huey who is your ally in these matters, and possibly it is Huey’s advice that really counts.

Asahi, I just wanted point out this post for you. Remember how I just described these animals as vultures, right? Notice how this animal ignored the thrust of my point to talk about nonsense (unrelated to my point)? They are doing the same thing to you. These strategies are employed by the vultures to erase an individual’s argument by degrading their credibility, questioning their authenticity, and/or cast aspersions on their intentions. Don’t fall into that trap. You can’t stop white folks from lynching, it’s literally in their DNA, and they’ve been doing it for a long, long time. Ignore these thots (I wrote the last two sentences on purpose so you can see - in real-time - how these cross-burning vultures focus on a tangential word or phrase, rather than the overall point). Anyway, this all brings me back to my unsolicited advice about pulling back your participation here. Good luck.

Enjoy your weekend.

I find myself constitutionally incapable of standing alongside tacit supporters and tolerators of white supremacism (there are indeed a few in this thread, based on my reading of present and past posts) and shit on someone who appears to me to be an angry black man. I’m not sure about some of Huey’s posts, but I don’t believe I’m qualified to sit in any sort of judgment, even just on a message board, of an angry black man, in today’s America.

White supremacism is still, by far, the biggest enemy. It’s still, by far, the worst thing in America. And the biggest threat to Americans. Focusing on the flaws of a black man who may well be a highly flawed individual, but still quite likely (in this America!) has pretty damn good reason for being angry, IMO is providing a small but still real bit of rhetorical aid and comfort to white supremacism.

Which doesn’t mean no criticism, but IMO a lot in this thread is going well beyond the likely reasonable “hey, you’re being an idiot about autism”, and crossing into that realm of aiding white supremacism. Especially when you’re laughing at Huey right alongside supporters and/or tolerators of white supremacism.

Just my opinion.

I quoted the only sentence in your post that wasn’t stupid. Every other sentence was nonsensical. Except for the encouraging asahi to post less.

Oh, poor me!! Poor me!! Those people say such mean things.

I disagree. You don’t oppose anti-black racism by promoting anti-white racism. Anti-black racism and anti-white racism just feed off each other. You oppose racism by opposing it - regardless of which race it’s directed at.

In this thread we’re calling out Huey for his racism and, yes, we’re making fun of him. (Mockery is a great tool for fighting racism. There’s nothing a supremacist hates more than hearing people laughing at his beliefs.) It’s a thread about Huey Freeman. I’d be more than happy to call out and make fun of other racists in their own pit threads.

Tell Ofmadsircool, hello. Aren’t you the guy who imported a person of color to marry, admitted that she suffered discrimination, but that was OK because . . .it wasn’t you. It’s sick what you white folks say behind the back of the person of color, you claim to love. It’s really, really sick. I guess your wife is just a handbag that you purchased from overseas and brought back home as a souvenir. You were neither strong or desirable enough for a black woman, a white woman, an Asian-American woman, or even a latina woman so you snatch a foreigner from her lands, drag her to the US, allow her to be subjected to discrimination, then dismiss the discrimination she receives as routine? Let us know if Ofmadsircool happy? Does Ofmadsircool to wearred, blue, or grey? How does Ofmadsircoollike the weather we’ve been sent? Does Ofmadsircool work, or do you support her financially?Praise be, bitches. Praise be.

Except anti-white racism doesn’t exist except in your head and (quite possibly, but not probably) South Africa.
