What tv show that's off the air do you miss the most?

Leave it to Beaver was hilarious!

Well, along with that, I’d add Undeclared. which was Judd Apatow’s followup.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir came up the other day. That was a good one. Ran only a couple of seasons.

Psych!

Yes, I know.
I bought a DVD box set from Frys Electronics and when I took it home, I realized that it didn’t have the original music. It’s awful and I haven’t watched it since.

I hope that I can find someone who videotaped the original episodes so that I can transfer them to DVD.

Ross Martin first broke his leg and while he was recuperating he had a nearly fatal heart attack. He never really recovered (which is why you only see him in guest starring roles after Wild,Wild West) and he died of after another heart attack in 1981.

What’s this about WKRP in Cincinnati? Are you saying the music playing on the show has been changed on the DVD?

Yes, because when the show was produced, no one knew that in the future people would want to buy episodes for home viewing so they didn’t secure the appropriate rights to the music,

Da Vinci’s Inquest. I only watched a season or two, but I liked what I saw. Not really sure why, either, but it probably has to do with the focus being on acting and character development rather than gore, good looks and special effects.

I think this still isn’t done even now. From what I’ve heard, record companies want insane amounts of money for dvd rights, so everyone drops them. I really didn’t think it would detract from Daria as it’s so dialogue-driven, but there are tons of sequences on the box set with no sound or music, even the generic stuff they added.

So what do they replace the old music with? Surely not something more modern like hip-hop.

Generic rock. I assume just some studio musicians. In a very few episodes in which the music was directly relevant to the plot, they retained the original.

Last time I checked, they had only had the first season out on DVD.

This sounds similar to something I noticed with Lethal Weapon 2. On the videotape we had (pre-DVD era), at the end there was a different song than “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” by Bob Dylan. I forget which song was substituted but always wondered why they did that. Must have been a similar reason.

The Carol Burnett Show.

What an absolutely fantastic crew. My favorite clip is an outtake that didn’t make it on the air in this form, for obvious reasons. Don’t drink anything while you watch it. And then watch Vicki Lawrence’s comments on it.

I’m not feeling the loss of Firefly as much as I used to. Time soothing wounds and all. But if it started up again, I’m sure I’d be right there. [They killed Wash! I’m still not over that.]

Yup.

Yup

I’m not sure if I’d watch it, particularly if it was on every weekday, the way it was originally, but I’d enjoy knowing that it was showing and following the plot online.

If it was online, now, I’d probably follow along.

Yup.

Oh, yes. I remember those. And not just the moon launches. Dad would wake us up at what felt like pain o’clock to watch the Mercury launches. The TV would be set up in the dining room, with the table pushed to the side and chairs set up like a theater. It felt odd to be up in the morning while it was still dark outside.

For my addition to the list, I’d like to see some more Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Yes - that’s the correct answer (Why isn’t this thread in GQ? )

It has dawned on me that I would prefer that The Joy of Painting still be on. Happy little trees.

This is one area where newfangled devices like recorders and the Internet have destroyed the childhood experience. I remember running home as fast as I could every day to watch it (Dark Shadows), because my school a half mile away let out about 10 or 15 minutes before it started.
