Well, weird or not, I’ve discovered weirder. There is a wannabe IMDB (Internet Movie Database) for The Movies movies. Not only do they have pages for several movies (all in pre-production of course as the game isn’t available yet), but they have links to “Studio” web pages and a place for voice actors to ply their wares. This is my favorite film synopsis:
Aisle 17
Rated R
Director: Biff Filqua
Film Synopsis: 2 idiot friends have contests and hang out at the grocery store. They both fight over the same girl and once again they are both idiots.
I can’t wait for that one!
There are several studio pages out there already, some of which are actually pretty spiffy.
For the ultimate weirdness, be sure to check out the voice acting page there. Some of them are actually pretty good, and some made me laugh so hard I about work up my daughter (and incured the wrath of both her and her mother).
I’m feeling better about writing a script already though. At least I did that when I was supposed to be working.
Since I recently quit World of Warcraft (as a lot of people seem to be doing recently), I’m currently waiting for Dark and Light, which is due out in April, but a 5 month free to play prelude starts this month. Further down the line, my play friends and I are looking at Vanguard and The Chronicles of Spellborn, both due out mid- to late next year.
Ooh, forgot about another one: Guitar Hero! Frequency and Amplitude were two of my favorite PS2 games ever, and Karaoke Revolution was a lot of fun too. So, anything by Harmonix is pretty much a must buy for me.
It’s $70 though since it has a fancy geetar controller. >_< May have to wait for Christmas for that one.
Is it too geeky to be thinking up possible unit mods for Civ IV, when it isn’t available for my platofrm yet, and I haven’t even PLAYED a Civ game in a couple of years?
Well, I’ve gotten my first four colossi out of the way and I can say that Shadow of the Colossus is absolutely brilliant. The controls are a bit smudgy from time to time, but the game is gorgeous. In one battle, I damn near got too caught up in watching the ground move below to hang on to the critter. The colossi themselves? Very detailed. Very very big.
The gameplay itself is nicely single minded. You’ll never miss having to get through millions of tiny fights and level ups just to fight bosses. All you have to do is find the beast, piss it off, and then figure out how to kill it.
The story play is minimal, but why shouldn’t it be? You’re fighting monsters in an attempt to bring the girl back to life. It doesn’t need politics or conspiracies or any other window dressing. It’s the same as the gameplay: less is more.
This is one of the best games that I have played and easily as good as Ico. If you’ve got $40 bucks and a ps2, you should get this game.
I read about that one, it sounds (and looks) pretty good. But I think if I am going for a game in this genre, I’ll go for God of War first. Similarly, I’m kind of looking forward to playing Prince of Persia, the new PS2 one which looks awesome, but also very much towards the PSP version. I haven’t played POP 2 (just part 1 on the Xbox), so it will be a whole new game for me, and not just 30% new. (they basically ported the PS2 version to the PSP, and then added 30% to the game).
Currently though I’m on a tight budget for a while paying back some debts, so I’ll have to take it easy, think about games that I’m really going to play and leave the rest, and wait for the titles I am looking forward to to become budget releases.
Sadly, it looks like Oblivion won’t be coming out for the PC until April, according to Amazon.com’s release dates. But the XBOX 360 version will be out in December. Personally, I don’t want to buy an XBOX, though I may eventually break down and get one because of Mass Effect. I prefer playing games on my PC.
