Agreed. Ico is a flat out beautiful game. The game play is good, not all time great, but good enough that it works seamlessly with the game. The story is minimal, but not in a DOOM light plot as an excuse to shoot things. Ico is a great example of how video games can and should be done. If Shadow of the Colossus is half as good as Ico, it’s worth the purchase price.
The movies is by Peter Molyneux. That right there should tell you that if it does a quarter of the things he promises it will, you’ll be very very lucky.
I’m holding out for Spore, myself. Sim everything!
I’ve been doing my homework about The Movies for just that reason. The good news is, for once, it sounds like most of what they’ve been promising is actually going to be in the game, so this one might break his curse.
Just wanted to give a thanks to the people in this thread, I’ve now (pre)ordered several games that I had no idea even existed!
‘The Movie Game’
‘Magna Carta:Tears of Blood’
‘Kingdom Hearts’ (The first one, so it’s out, but I’d never heard of this - I usually don’t notice PS2 games.)
Thanks! Hopefully when they finally arrive they will provide hours of enjoyment!
Just found on the official website this morning that The Movies is slated to hit shelves on Nov 8! Glee!!! One week (or so) to go!
Maybe I’m marking myself as a hopelessly inept, barely-can-call-himself-a gamer, but…
Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows
Dark Legacy was something I could play with my son of 7. Maybe now he’s ready for the next level?
I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Bioware’s upcoming Dragon Age. Screw NWN: wooden characters, wooden plot, cheesy voice acting. It’s been 5 years since Bioware released BGII, and it’s been 5 years since there has been a decent party based RPG in a fantasy setting. From 1985 (Bard’s Tale) to 2001 (BGII) there we dozens of worthwhile games in his genre… 2001 to present? NWN? Guild Wars? Dragonshard?? These titles forgot about the RP and are better described simply as ‘games.’ The only major release of a true RPG during this period was KotOR. You can put KotOR 3 down as my 2nd choice.
That’s the one I’m excited about, too. Can’t wait!
In case anyone was on the fence about Dragon Quest VIII, look a little closer at this picture - yep, it says “Includes a playable demo of Final Fantasy XII.”
Nefarious bastards!!
I’ll make my brother (Mr. Disposable Income) buy it so I can check it out.
My XBOX mag came today and a preview of Bioware’s Mass Effect was in it. Just wow. I can’t wait.
That does look cool, but I have to play Ratchet: Deadlocked first. I looove that series, especially Giong Commando. Best platformer ever, IMHO.
Oblivion got delayed. Weak.
Should I be paying attention to this? Would I like it if I’m a Final Fantasy fanboy?
I would only put Dragon Age on my list after NWN 2 is out though…I am quite excited by DA too, but I doubt it’s coming out in the next two or three years.
Not at all. Oblivion has terrifying features like real-time combat, character creation, non-linear gameplay, and artifical intelligence.
However, if you don’t mind having your “Final Fantasy is an RPG” world shattered, you’d probably enjoy it.
I never, ever do this, but there’s a first for everything:
Oi. No video game elitism please. I’d rather not have my mere thread wind up in the pit.
And I just got Colossus today. Have to wait till tomorrow to play it.
Yeah, that was lame of me. Sometimes you forget you’re on the SDMB. It’s especially silly since I’ve Final Fantasy VII right here and would play it in an instant if I could get it to work on XP.
No biggie.
And think of it this way. Would you rather have a buggy game now or a slightly less buggy game later?
