In the Old Man Logan setting the villains of Marvel Earth team up, defeat the heroes and divide the country between Magneto, Red Skull, Doom and Abomination.
How many villains do you think would either retire after the takeover or be forced to retire on threat of death (assuming they aren’t killed outright)?
At least 17, possibly as many as 23.
That is interesting because traditionally both Magneto and Dr Doom have hated The Red Skull for being a Nazi. (Magneto being Jewish and a Holocaust survivor. And Doom being of Romani descent).
That was something that threw me off. No way in hell was Magneto going to work with the Red Skull. Nazis killed Magneto’s family during the Holocaust and Red Skull is a dyed-in-the-wool Nazi. As Captain America once said, “I’ve met good vampires…but I’ve never met a good Nazi.”
As evidenced in multiple stories—Mags might play along with the group, but at his first chance, he’ll go after Red Skull (Acts of Vengeance for ex.). And IIRC in Old Man Logan, we aren’t given a lot of details on how the villain alliance operated. It might have been a case of Mags playing the odds… but then ultimately, Magneto got killed anyway by some nobody.
Old Man Logan is pretty infamous for wildly out-of-character writing. Magneto working with a Nazi isn’t nearly the worst of it, compared to what they did to Bruce Banner.
It’s not a very good book.
I just wish we saw the final fight between Hulk and Abomination in any of the comics set in the OML universe. I also want to know what happened to the Leader and how he reacted to the Abomination getting his own territory and then the Hulk taking over.
