How about placing Tips and tricks more prominently than in small font at the bottom of the page. Here’s where your FAQ for newbs and those who need to be spoon fed basic board functions can find answers to their frequently assed questions.
Oh I see left hand fapping has entered the chat. Ignored.
Why is it that you want to differentiate between what’s theirs and yours instead of making a FAQ link that actually answers questions. How about a prominent link so members can easily see the discourse tips and tricks
'Cause some folks aren’t smart enough to tell the difference between an address that starts with boards.straightdope.com and one that starts with blog.discourse.org, a FAQ ain’t gonna help with people that stupid.
Probably a good idea, but absolutely belongs in About This Message Board and not buried in this thread. We have a partial FAQ for the board in ATMB. We don’t have a general one I guess.
We do maintain one for “How to Moderate on Discourse”. @engineer_comp_geek started it and we’ve both added to it. It is pretty helpful. One in general besides the glossary would probably be handy. Especially as much of the Glossary is somewhat dated.
There was one for computer questions, that was unpinned as it was so dated.
Babale, your hostility does no favors to any argument you make. Notice I’m confining my anger to the proper forum.
You need to learn what a fucking ally is, and learn how to be introspective when you encounter information you may not like. You need to realize you can be fooled.
Sigh. It shouldn’t be this hard to correct misinformation if you actually care to get it right.
I’ve been hearing similar comments from friends, and think “How do you get to (and get BACK to) sleep nowadays?” would be a valuable question to ask, here and in real life.
Can a moderator junior-moderate if they moderate without putting on their mod hat or their sparkly moderator jackboots, or at least color-coding the post as ex cathedra?
(Not like the advice wasn’t good. Just got me to wonderin’.)
I agree, though it doesn’t have to be “all” – just avoid major sources of American political news. As I mentioned elsewhere, I’ve avoided CNN since the night of November 5 and my mental health is better for it. I also have the advantage of being in Canada, so when I’m driving around running errands the car radio is tuned to CBC Radio One, where mostly what I hear is interesting discussions and sane Canadian news.
As for the sleep problem, a hypnotic like Ambien or any of its many generic spinoffs works wonders!
